Berwick V Plymouth (2nd July) Pl

Recommended Posts

Knock it all you want, Berwick once again are leading the way to try to get meetings on and deserve huge credit for doing so, maybe if other clubs did something similar we`d be in a better position, might be an idea for you to question your promotion why they aren`t doing the same. Covers went down, we have had a couple of light showers but so far the heavier showers has missed Berwick, all being well we should have tapes up at 7pm.

Was going to go to Workington tonight but an early rain off ,So was thinking of going to Berwick to see Plymouth but did not inspire me neither did the weather so I stayed away but looks like I made the right choice .In my opinion for a 160 mile round trip with little entertainment & also a curfew.Putting track covers is good but if the racing is not there you might as well call it off but that is just my view.

Tonight was one of those nights. Firstly, brilliant decision to put the covers down and great effort from the volunteers to get it done. The rain that fell between for and six, there was no way the meeting could have gone ahead without them. The accidents tonight had very little to do with the track, which actually rode well. Doolan and Neilsen tangled on the home straight in heat one, Simon Neilsen was injured taking evasive action. Matty Wethers got a bad one in a classic first bend bunching incident and Theo and Sam Simota looked to get tangled at high speed and it was one of those where you thank the invention of the air fence. Some decent racing tonight as well, I was quite impressed with Jack Holder and in parts Stefan Neilsen and Ellis Perks. Ben Barker seemed to be quicker than previously this season and you know Stevie Worrall is fast around Shielfield.

But Berwick picked up another three points and down to five men, with Matty and Theo both picking up bad ones and getting up and scoring vital points, it was hard earned.Three points and a vindicated decision.

Great work with the covers again.

Also, the extra ambulance and medical cover made for minimal disruption despite some bad spills.

Once again, the fence has surely saved some nasty injuries.

Some competitive racing, thanks to an away team that turned up!

Holder and Barker good value, in particular.

TJ is flying at the moment, and Liam looking strong again.

If we can find a suitable replacement for Seb, we are going to end up with a decent league position: maybe more!

First off well done to all who helped in putting the covers on the track and taking them off, with the rain we had late afternoon there`s no doubt the meeting would've been in trouble had this not been done. Sadly those efforts weren't rewarded in an entertaining meeting, obviously lots of breaks due to accidents is understandable but with both teams running R/R the meeting was boring in the most part with breaks for riders having two riders on the trot, thankfully those injured riders seem to have got away without any long lasting injury. Hopefully Berwick will get back to seven riders by the next time we take to the track, I know they have either talked to or are still in talks with many riders but haven't been able to get a rider in, as has already been mentioned R/R isn't the answer long term.

When both teams are using R/R why not bring in a NL rider at reserve and promote the higher reserve into the team ?

As of this moment Bandits are in second place in the PL table, 1 point behind Glasgow. Yes, others have matches in hand, but Berwick have points on the board.

Looking good ATM , a few tricky ( an a couple of matches that are definitely winnable ) away matches on the horizon though

Yes I agree, or both teams should have a No8, where in situations like last night where one or both teams are down to five riders they can come in for the injured rider or as an R/R if needed, for example last night Berwick could've used their No8 in HT1 instead of going with only Kevin Doolan.

Berwick have a decent chance of making a top six place, much will depend on finding a suitable replacement for Alden, form is good and there is the chance of points on the road IMO.

IMO we will be borderline for Top 6 IF clubs complete their fixtures by cut -off date which given the weather this summer might be a struggle .We are a decent team but R/R will give us a hard task to get away points,we provide great matches but getting more than 40 pts with R/R without one of the reserves having a big return will be difficult IMO .A couple of tricky home matches to come as well.

Your right, hopefully with the right rider as Alden`s replacement and we could get a top six place which IMO would be a great achievement, most of us me included had Berwick down for around halfway.

Screm cant use number 8 to replace a reserve only the r/r and as in heat 1 Nielson was in for a tape disqualification number 8 could not come in

Fair enough but Berwick`s Nielsen was unable to take part in the re-run through no fault of his own. It just might help to allow an No8 rider come in as and when required as it would let the meeting flow quicker than we had last night, injuries accepted, and give the paying public four riders in as many races as possible and lets face it most No8`s are junior riders with little or no experience so its hardly likely they will come in winning races.

On paper at start of season I thought we could maybe sneak a playoff place like 1 or 2 I thought Mellgren would be our trump card sadly that never happened. Into July and we are sitting in a playoff place so hopefully to stay in that place the promotion and I know it has not been for the want of trying bring in the 7th rider that maintains our push.

Agree, thought Mellgren would be the key,Seb getting injured is also a big blow though.Dany at reserve will help at home,a good signing.
