Do the pub own it, or the stadium? Surely in the best interests of both parties, it would be worth them sharing the expense in filling in all those ever deepening holes, before some seriously hurts themselves. Please be assured there are on-going negotiations with the Highways Department and the water company to reach an agreeable solution to the current surface conditions affecting our valued fans. There are issues with drainage, and it's not a case of simply placing Tarmac over the visible problem. We are seeking a long term solution not a quick fix which will result in many years of happy parking to come. I think the problem has been that the car park is owned by Thames Water and they haven't been very cooperative in the past, hence the many temporary quick fixes in the past. Whilst I use Facebook, I don't spend a lot of time on Social Media, as it's far to time consuming, and can take over your life, if you let it. You try sleeping in a mini (car, I'm not a cross-dresser) with the only 'facilities' being a darkened, spider-infested loo block and getting a visit from the fuzz about 4 am. At least I got a free breakfast in the pit portakabin from Hugh Saunders inbetween him working on the track. As you can imagine those craters are a part of me - which probably explains a great deal. Surely it wasn`t just to have a free breakfast My family had the appalling timing of moving to the West Midlands just as Rye House developed into a rather good team (Infradex etc). This was then compounded by my starting university in Liverpool. So there I was, a teenager and relatively impoverished student supposed to be making a new start away from the south east and going to Cradley for my speedway instead. I signed up for their supporters club and started going on the away coach trips. I lasted about two months before I started sneaking south on Sundays, all of my spare cash going on fuel and admission. When there was an away match at Canterbury on the Saturday, not an uncommon event for the Rockets back then, there was no question of paying for accommodation, but there was no way having gone through the agony of losing the Rayleigh Rockets to Rye House just a few years before I was missing out on the glory days. I'd paid my 'dues'. Okay, there was a woman involved as well but could I entice her into the car? Believe me, being given a free breakfast by my first speedway hero (well, he was in 1971 and I was only 13..) was not the priority although they were my first experiences of being on the other side of the fence, before people foolishly started asking me to write and talk. You can see the effects of sleeping in the Rye House car park then - all those ripples were me, not the knackered tape. There is some confusion since my namesake also worked in sport TV for Granada and Sky. I think he got my tax bill though. Thanks for the link - that's another one for the collection.
