what are the rules regarding tactical substitutes? is it 6 points down and a team can use one.

The same as in Britain until replaced by the cost-cutting Tactical Ride double points that we currently have to endure. Many a match was made fascinating by watching a team manager work his resources to the maximum rather than being limited to the one TR ride and the odd reserve change.

Yeah, its an unfair rule, should be 10 points down.

So unfair that it was used for decades in Britain and still is in Sweden and Poland.

Does that make it right?

I've seen many meetings where one team had 2 world class riders and with subs they stayed in the match by beating the 2nd strings of a better all around team. The race format gives equal opportunities to both sides with substitutions you only need 2 riders who is capable of scoring 14-15 points and you have good chance to win the race. Loads times young, upcoming but less talented riders hardly get any racing time because of substitutions.

I dont want to see more 60-30 meetings but its nonsense that after a sub 5-1 in the next heat they can take the lead.

So riders lose rides, lower order riders who need the money, great ..... not. The top boys get easy tactical rides, miles out in front, great .... not. I'd say do away with all tacticals, just have gate changes .....

Riders only lose rides if they have failed to perform. Would you also block reserve replacement rides for the same reason? If a rider is hopelessly out of touch he has to take all of his programmed rides? Riders are guaranteed three rides. Whether they are replaced by reserves or tactical substitutes is irrelevant. Under the old system if you were in trouble you used your styar riders to recover. Now it's all about finding strong reserves to do the job instead which is totally about-face.

It worked for years and still does in Sweden and Poland. If it didn't they'd have both dumped it years ago. Britain only did it because EL heat leaders wanted too much money to take the extra rides and the Golden Double, later Tactical; Ride was introduced.

Part of the fascination for many was to watch skilled team managers use their riders to try to win matches. Now those tactics have been reduced to hoping you have a reserve that's on form and working out when to play the joker.

Okay, some people don't have the ability to follow such tactical ploys but that's no reason why they should dumb the sport down for others.

It really doesn't. There have been many meetings that have been decided due to one team being able to use tac-subs while the other wasn't. Tac subs benefits top heavy teams

since they can replace the non-performing riders. IMO it doesn't fill any purpose. 6 points is a too small difference and if the difference would be bigger like 12 points

it's not likely that using a tac subs would do much to close the gap since it usually means that the entire team is not performing which means that a team likely doesn't

have any riders to use as a tac-sub anyway.

If tac-subs where to be removed, it would be more "fair" to build different types of teams. You could built a top heavy team which would rely on

the top riders to score the majority of the points or you could build a more balanced team which would rely on all riders to score 6-7 points each.

Tac-subs benefits the top heavy team since they always can replace the second string riders with tac-subs. I don't think it's a fair rule since

it allows one team to give their best riders extra heats while the winning team have to use it's worse riders.

just caught up with the action by keeping away from any score details and watching Eurosport - cracking meeting- obviously spoilt by Eurosport !!! cut out heat 6 but then ludicrously cut out heat 14- what the **** I did enjoy the " 10 best cycling near-misses" during one of the breaks.

Edit If that`s the best the editor can do sat in Paris- then I`m glad we are out of the EU !!!!!!
