Shale Searcher
Why do speedway fans seem to prefer to watch domestic team speedway on the TV, rather than go and support their team live?? Doesn't seem to happen in other domestic team sports like Football, Cricket, Rugby etc.....? I just don't get it? It surely cannot be all down to admission prices, even when clubs do offers, the crowds always seem to be down. Why?
mdmc82
I always attend Brandon even when we are on tv. You can't beat live speedway.

Trees
To save money I guess, simple as. Many fans just aren't as passionate about their team as in years gone by.
DSC67
Because in my case live matches are on a Monday / Wednesday night and I have an 80 mile round trip and would have to go direct to the Speedway from work . If it was live on a Friday or Sat night the I'd be there . I guess live matches on a school night aren't great for those with kids either especially when there's no reduction on the gate prices to give folks an incentive to go

The change of night and a 125mile round trip main reason for me ,weather comes into it these days more than before though as riders don't seem keen if there is rain about. Shale Searcher
To save money I guess, simple as. Many fans just aren't as passionate about their team as in years gone by. I think you've hit the nail on the head here.... It's not "save money" that is the consequence of not attending.. The reason is "PASSION" It's no longer your "beloved" team, it's a group of riders that turn up and slip into a race suit, or race jacket, that's covered in sponsor names, your rider number and that's about it... The clubs badge is now only a small afterthought... The riders are no longer "PASSIONATE" riding for "YOUR TEAM" it's just another pay day.. If you're lucky, they may all "click" on the night and your team wins, but once the chequered flag is waved on heat 15, they're showered, changed, and in the van and on to their next meeting, different day, different race jacket, same rubbish... How can supporters get passionate about that....? Edited June 26, 2016 by Shale Searcher
damosuzuki
The Glasgow fans will be there on Wednesday, Apparently one or two monarchs not coming through as Domino's does a two for one on a wed.

It surely cannot be all down to admission prices, even when clubs do offers, the crowds always seem to be down. Why? It's down to how the fans have been treated in the past for TV meetings. Crowds were good when live speedway on the TV first came along but the trust from the fans of both the TV companies and Promoters has been lost. No end of meetings when the weather has been iffy TV & clubs have conned supporters into conditions being perfect for racing. You turn up and track work is going on, rider's not interested & the meeting goes ahead with the aim of reaching the cut-off to declare a result. The fans & entertainment value is never thought about. Normally King's Lynn matches on Sky are pretty well supported but this week it had pretty much rained all day so I'm sure many like me would be thinking 'this is going to be a race to heat 10 & I'm not spending £17 for that'.

I'm quite happy to do an eighty mile round trip ordinarily , but on a work night when it's live on tv it's too much hassle

From what I recall most if not all of Swindons meetings that have been on tv have cost £10 entry and the crowds have been ok.

superguest
I have never missed a meeting due to it being on SKY. However, I do not have any other commitments on a Monday night. ***Game of Thrones withstanding*** but that can be recorded and adverts skipped. Gemini
What's the excuse when the weather is perfect ? Because when people have paid out for Sky they seem to be reluctant to pay again to watch the match when they can save £17/£18, plus petrol money and programme (if they buy one) by sitting at home in comfort.
Woz01
I always try to attend when we are on Sky but I have to admit there has been the odd occasion where it gets nearer start time and I think sod it I will watch on Sky. Its mainly when there has been poor weather around!

With so few EL home matches, no way would I miss a live one, it's always good to watch the coverage back after though 😊 Got to admit to not liking the strictness of the TV coverage and the way it intervenes with a meeting though .... speedibee
Tv matches are fitted around advertising , 4 races massive gap . the people at home either listen to pearson and tatum to fill the gaps or go out and make tea .mow the lawn , while those at the stadium are left waiting for the next set of 4 races to be rushed through ,
