Glasgow V Edinburgh ,wednesday 29/6/16, Sky Sports 7.30pm

Young Bewley. Heard reports he was fantastic at BV and was interested to see him ride. On his first ride I thought, what is all the fuss about? Then on his second he was much better and beat a rider who has done many laps around that track.

He is a bit puney and very lightweight. However, he certainly has something about him on a bike. He needs to get down the gym, build himself up and keep improving. He was certainly out muscled by most of the other riders but there could well be a future in the sport for the lad.

Is Danny Aires as OTT as that after every heat win, or was it enhanced for the cameras?

Closest I've seen in recent years was Andrew Silver after a meeting at Rye in 2009, but that was after a 6 ride paid maximum.

That's Danny all the time. Best to celebrate a win when you get it, you can't come out a couple of races later and run over to the crowd for their appreciation.

Exactly, I'm fairly sure he wouldn't have done it if he didn't think the crowd would respond accordingly, it seemed like a two-way thing to me watching on tv, loved it.

Not quite his namesake but I can remember Ken Eyre always having similar great rapport with the fans at Belle Vue, although I think Ken tended to limit it to a cheeky wave. I don't think he ever broke out of the reserve berth (could be wrong) but it didn't stop him being a real favourite back in the day.

As for Barry Ayres, I don't recall him being so outgoing.

Why......

Danny is perhaps a wee tad OTT but IMO not enough riders interact with their supporters nowadays. The other Glasgow riders normally do similar celebrations too and you only have to watch the crowds response to see how much it is appreciated. It all adds to the "fun factor" and it's working for them

The fans love it when Danny celebrates like that , supporters moan about the lack of characters in the sport , so keep on celebrating Danny . I'm old enough to remember Terry Kelly when he rode for Workington and he was much the same playing to the crowd , so I hope Danny continues what he does

Fantastic atmosphere and good sized crowd but we really need to keep our feet on the ground. It may be a start but we're not nearly there yet. How big will the crowd be on Sunday with no TV cameras and a smaller travelling support despite stronger opposition? Whilst acknowledging the wonderful marketing efforts of our promotion so far, it certainly must have helped that we were not already "bored" with facing the Monarchs thanks to the dropping of the Spring Trophy meetings. I have talked to many Elite League supporters who are "bored" by meeting the same teams over and over again and would relish a greater variety of opponents.

There are now 5 other PL teams unbeaten at home and 4 with more away points than we have. That's not good enough for the pre-season favourites. We need to come away from Workington on Saturday with a haul of points....... and that might not be easy....... followed up with a home victory against the other Tigers on Sunday.

And as for EL pretensions, I can't see it. Too many vested interests not wanting to water down their Sky income, and can you really see the prima donnas wanting to traipse all the way up to the frozen north twice a year? Our best hope, once we're good enough, is for a single restructured National League following the regrettable demise of the few clubs who are perpetually struggling financially with diminishing support. We were in that situation before the Facennas rescued us and ploughed barrowloads of cash into the facilities and showed how a speedway club should be run.

You pretty much did p*ss on the PL parade though, "thank God we have EL next week" (or similar). So he/she wasn't exactly putting words in your mouth.

How did I?

Did I say it was a great crowd and atmosphere and the racing after heat 4 was affected mostly by the weather conditions? Positive slant on the product I would say.

Was Monday not poor then? Please correct all I have got wrong then.

Of course I'm happy to see the EL on SKY next week , that's the league I prefer and has better quality racing (IMHO of course).

So yes words were put into my mouth, incorrectly.

Better check with the silly bitch first because if she can't win she'll want to have another vote on it.

She is the ultimate in hidden agendas and this vote suits her to the ground one word to describe her would be clown.

Nothing wrong with Ayres' celebration, we need more of that kind of thing in speedway. Contrast that to most riders coming straight back to the pits last night at Lynn with no interaction at all.

I heard the number of season books on Wednesday was far more than usual. The crowds look to me to be slightly higher than last year and I haven't heard any figures less than about 770 (can't remember who that was but Redcar or someone far away. I presume it's just a case of continuing to batter away - and Wednesday will certainly have helped in promotional terms. If they are playing the long game it looks great.

As for the league, agreed. It's so tight (other than Somerset so far) this year.

** PS I'm not a Blobby style insider, so hearing all this second hand.
