Team Gb For World Cup

All Harris needs is a good bike that will allow him to do his thing.

The whole squad should be at the NSS with Peter Johns and Ashtech trying each other's bikes set ups etc to arrive at something they are happy with. Meredith should also be involved and the track should be prepared exactly as our lads want it.

If we are just going to turn up like Jonny foreigner and take it as it comes then we're missing out big time.

I was in Germany when Muller won his world title after bike, rider and track had become tuned in on the run up to the event and we should absolutely do the same.

If we don't I'd like to know why?

Sorry about that completely forgot about under 21 when I posted, I will write 500 lines " The reserves for the WTC must be under 21" ;)

I would be very surprised if Woofy was at BV next year, he did not endear himself with the management at the PC meeting.

Actually, it's "The reserves for the SWC must be under 21". Get that pencil sharpened....:-)

i think Rossiter needs to be checking the weather forecasts for next Saturday before coming to his decision.

Woffinden, Lambert and Cook should be in no matter what, with the last rider determined by the weather. King excels when you have to work at getting through deep stuff, Nicholls if it's going to be dry and slick as he can gate.

No room for Harris unfortunately, it always looks like the harder he tries the further back he goes.

Some talk of Kings British Championship win as if it was all down to a very sodden track, a fluke win because of that.

Have those not seen what he did at Cardiff?

Two zeros from his first two rides, dialed his bike into track conditions (which he himself said was nothing like practice day) then bingo! 7 points from 3 rides including that win which was one of the most exciting races of the night....that win against quality riders AND coming from the back.

After what we saw at Poole last night, bring your white flag with you for the final. God help us with King and Harris.

Never going to get near third place.

One thing is clear is Ellis must be nailed on for reserve, not that it will make any difference.

Forget last night Belle Vue is a different kettle of fish. For me my team would be Tai,Craig,Robert,Danny (a deserved British Champion terrific at Cardiff.Res Josh B.

Woffinden and Lambert are definites. Don't think anyone has left them out of their preferred selection (well, maybe just one mentally challenged looney).

Reserve is a straightforward choice between Ellis and Bates. If it comes down to using the reserve we're stuffed anyway. So I'd go for Bates as he's more likely to throw caution to the wind and have a go if the chips are down.

Cook is a good gater which is needed at this level, and when his machinery is dialled in there is no one quicker around BV. Surely we will be making sure all our team's machinery is dialled in, so he must be in there.

Last place is between Harris, Nicholls, King and Worrall. Any of whom could have a good meeting or a bad one. Worrall is joint-track-record holder I believe, but if Rosco picks him and he has a bad meeting everyone will ask why did he pick Worrall instead of a more experienced rider. So Worrall is too big a risk for Rosco.

Nicholls seems off-form recently, and with age against him I discount him too.

That leaves Harris or King, and judging by the British Final and British GP, I think King has to get the nod.

So my team would be Woffinden, Lambert, Cook, King, Bates

Peter Johns help English lads Errr . It's not as simple as Harris on a decent bike unfortunately , he has had engines from all the worlds best tuners .but it's his backroom staff that let him down . when he has belters like the last but 1 GP's it's just luck that everything goes right on the day . certainly not judgement, His or anybody elses . We shouldnt need a fixed track either , none of the others will ,they will go there on the day make their own assesments and adjust accordingly

Agree, our best rider Woffinden has yet to do a lap at the track

Belle Vue is a different type of track. Much better for passing so should be okay. More than one race line 👍🏻

I still wouldn't go for Cook. He's got limited experience of riding against the worlds best, and I'm not sure he has the mentality or equipment to deal with it.

Was he not beating your golden boy in the British final last year until Garrity fell off, he looked capable then.

Make the track grippy and rough and riders like cook, bomber & King will be hard to beat but I guess they will make it ultra slick to suit the other teams.

Speedway GP websites rundown of the riders in contension.

Thursday 21st July 2016, 11:10

We conclude our series featuring the Monster Energy FIM Speedway World Cup teams with a look at the Great Britain squad.

They have been seeded straight into the Monster Energy SWC as hosts. Can they capitalise and win the Ove Fundin Trophy for the first time at Manchesters National Speedway Stadium on July 30?

TAI WOFFINDEN

The Scunthorpe-born icon knows all about winning world titles. He skippers Great Britains quest for Monster Energy SWC gold on the back of becoming FIM Speedway Grand Prix world champion in 2013 and 2015.

A six-time SGP winner, Woffindens scoring power will be critical to GBs hopes of a first medal in 10 years. The former Wolverhampton rider no longer races in the British Elite League, so his Monster Energy SWC Final appearance in Manchester is a rare chance to see Britains finest in action on home shale.

CHRIS HARRIS

The Cornishman has been one of British speedways big guns for the past decade, making his Lions debut at Swindon in 2005, scoring 12 points.

The Coventry Bees legend appeared in the 2006 SWC Final at Reading, where GB finished third the last time they appeared on the medal rostrum.

Bomber has raced in all but one SGP series since making his World Championship debut in 2007. And few will ever forget his epic British SGP win at the Principality Stadium that year.

ROBERT LAMBERT

Lambert hopes to appear in his second straight Monster Energy SWC after announcing his arrival on the world stage last summer with an impressive GB debut at home track Kings Lynn, followed by an even better display in the Race Off at Vojens.

The 18-year-old is widely regarded as British speedways hottest future prospect and has qualified for this years GP Challenge in Vetlanda, where the top three earn SGP places for 2017.

The Kings Lynn, Newcastle and Masarna rider has also received a wild card for the FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship Final, and finished second in the opening round at Kings Lynn.

DANNY KING

The 29-year-old is enjoying the season of his life, having stormed to British Championship glory in Manchester last month to earn the wild card for the Adrian Flux British SGP in Cardiff.

Despite two last places to start his night, King hit back with two seconds, before sending the Principality Stadium berserk with a thrilling triumph in race 19.

With his form on the up for Coventry and Ipswich, hed love to cap a sweet 2016 with Monster Energy SWC gold for GB.

CRAIG COOK

Despite a rotten start to the season, plagued by engine troubles, Cook appears to be back on track for the Monster Energy SWC.

The Belle Vue star is no stranger to the National Speedway Stadium shale and he will hope his experience at the track convinces Lions boss Alun Rossiter to hand him his first Final appearance.

Cook last raced for GB in the 2013 Monster Energy SWC, scoring four points at Kings Lynn. But he has grown as a rider since then and the 29-year-old would love a shot at gold on his home track.

SCOTT NICHOLLS

The Belle Vue skipper is back in selection contention having opted out of the past three Monster Energy SWCs, and the former SGP regular offers the Lions a wealth of international experience.

Having raced in 82 SGP rounds and 19 SWC meetings, the BT Sport pundit is no stranger to taking on the best in the world.

He appeared in the legendary 2004 SWC Final at Poole, losing out to Swedens Peter Karlsson in a last-heat decider for the gold medal. How hed love to lay that ghost to rest in Manchester at his British home track.

STEVEN WORRALL

One of the shooting stars of the British Elite Leagues fast-track scheme, Worrall has made dramatic progress since being given his top-flight break by Swindon in 2014.

That season prompted his parent club Belle Vue to bring him to Manchester, where he has become a star at the National Speedway Stadium, joining forces with twin brother Richie.

Fourth in the British Final, Worrall is a man on a mission this year, and pushing his case for a Monster Energy SWC call-up.

RICHIE WORRALL

Unlike twin brother Steven, Richie hasnt had the benefit of racing in British speedways fast-track system, meaning he has had to hone his craft against the divisions big guns.

The St Helens-born racer doubles up between Belle Vue and Premier League giants Glasgow.

He has served as GBs first reserve in previous Monster Energy SWC tournaments, but will be keen to get his break in Manchester.

JOSH BATES

The two-time British Under-21 champion and World Under-21 finalist has taken some giant strides forward this season.

On top of winning the national junior crown at Sheffield in April, he has also broken into Coventrys main team and is comfortably holding his own against some tougher competition.

He will be a candidate for GBs under-21 reserve spot and his combative riding style should ensure his rivals wont get a moments peace if hes given a chance to race.

ADAM ELLIS

The Poole shooting star has refused to let a season blighted by injury slow him down. Despite two collarbone breaks in a matter of months, hes back on form.

His efforts have taken him out of the Pirates reserve berths and into a second-string position, where he continues to beat some of the Elite Leagues top stars.

He may have been raised near Bordeaux in south-west France, but Ellis is a Brit through and through. The World Under-21 finalist is also a candidate for the under-21 standby role.

East Grandstand tickets for the Monster Energy SWC Race Off and Final at Manchesters National Speedway Stadium are still available. Visit: http://purchase.tickets.com/buy/TicketPurchase?agency=SPEEDWAYWORLDCUP&organ_val=48829&schedule=list.

My golden boy? I'm not a massive Woffinden fan, in fact couldn't stand him a few years back. Just not thick enough to think Team GB could do without him in the SWC.

You obsession with him is beyond laughable now, much like you. Used to be entertaining reading/replying to your bizarre views, statements and claims but you've fast become a parody of yourself.

If you think Bates should be picked over Ellis you have a lack of Speedway knowledge. Harsh but true.

Without wearing any Poole blinkers Ellis is a far superior rider who likes big tracks and can pass. Poole have yet to visit Belle Vue due to the BV management scared of re-arranging the A fixture for fear of being turned over, so Ellis has not yet had a chance to ride the track, but you can be sure he will take to the wide open spaces and I am sure he will get the nod over Bates, who has done ok this season and should be allowed in the pits to watch and learn. Ellis at the moment is a much more complete rider.

Not that it will matter much anyway, because he won't get a ride bar an injury.

I will be there cheering England on (this teamgb thing is so 1990 and theres no scots or welsh in it anyway) but I think the closest we will get to the rostrum is watching the awards from the pits.

I hope I am wrong but we stand no chance. The BV riders have been crap around their track bar S Worrall. Harris seems to ride a first bend to get out of the way. Nicholls is too old, Cook is nowhere near good enough and neither is King. Their time has gone.

Only Woffinden and young Lambert deserve their places. And I would be brave if I was Rosco as the Danish manager was a few years ago. Use the kids. The old guard are not going to do anything for England, so why not blood youngsters? They could well come in 50 metres behind, but what experience in front of a partisan crowd? And really they couldn't do a lot worse than our so called best of Brits.

Woffinden

Lambert

S Worrall

A Ellis

Res. Bates

Of course Rosco wouldn't be that brave but he has nothing to lose. We are not going to win anyway.

Woffinden

King

Harris

Cook.

Res. Ellis

I would enjoy going with the younger team myself.

He's got a point, what long term good could be got from Harris and Nicholls being in the team ? Let's look to the future and start building a good GB squad now
