Brilliant weekend of Speedway....

Many thanks to Ged Rathbone and his family for making it possible and hat's off to the track staff.

Well done to all the rider's for putting on a show for the fans. Can't wait for next year as I can see this getting bigger and better. The camping touch was brilliant (how nice to have a beer and enjoy a meeting and not worry about he journey home) definitely a Glastonbury feel well done all. 😊....

(There were a fair few camping and we took our touring caravan on the 500 yard journey from our house which backs onto the showground

The campsite is basic but perfectly ok. £10 per night but the electric hook up at £50 was extortionate (although that is the showground not the speedway club afaik).Good atmosphere and having the facilities in the van to cook your own food and chill your own beer certainly reduced the costs of attending the event.

Hopefully see you there next year!)

Thanks for the information Simon. I Must confess, like you, I do have a caravan with all the luxuries but can certainly manage a couple of nights without the need for an electric hook-up. The thought of being based on site for the weekend and having a comfy bed and a beer chiller all for £10 a night is a great idea. I have further to travel than 500 yards though, living just south of Norwich, but will certainly try and make it next year after reading so many positive comments about the weekend.

Stop whingeing, it was a fantastic weekend's racing.

All the best

Rob

Think you've misunderstood the post Rob, I wasn't talking about the public not being bothered, reading the previous posts I picked up comments about "certain riders" not being bothered not the whole event and, I did say it read like a high standard of racing, again, gained from posts from people whom were there?

I've nothing to whinge about except the lack of rewards for the riders finishing second and third, they played a big part in the finals and should get something for that!! ;)

Let's face it, who keeps a second and third place medal, they just gather dust and sure no rider is interested in them at all.

Spoken like a true non sportsman, would you say that to the guy's and gals in the Olympic Games then, Oh dont worry, it's only a Silver and Bronze, nobody keeps them they just gather dust, yeah right!! :nono:

Well as someone who did the two meetings, camped over and was there as a neutral (but picked Plymouth as my team) I had a brilliant weekend. Yes there were a few issues and niggles that need sorting but in the main it was brilliant and I'll be back next year for more if the same.

£10 to camp but they meant not having to pay £4 to park the car so in reality £6 to camp. Bargain!

The heat format of the individual was pants. Just go with 16 riders, kick two riders out. The riders who were there but didn't ride in the individual, shame on them.

And the entertainment they charged £5 on the Saturdaay night. We gave up after a few minutes, as did others. Waste of time, money and effort. Just get a karaoke machine for 2017!

And how was Busk-Jakobsen not excluded? I accept the red light come on because Jorgensen jumper but Busk Jakobsen and his bike both left the track then. That's an excludable offence. So what that he crashed, are we saying that all a rider had to do to go back to the pits is crash? Or if just falling over on the bike enough? He crashed AFTER the race was stopped so wasn't allowed back in the pits!

I would like to congratulate Plymouth on the win and the BSPA for including them in the draw. If it was the format from previous years 2 of the finalist's wouldn't have been there (Plymouth 9th and Berwick 11th qualifiers). :t:

I thought the racing was good in all the meeting's (will get the DVD to see the Bjerre/Andersen race as just seen the warm down due to being in the bar.

I think we should have the same referee both days because I think we had 2 riders go over the grass (at the starting gate) on consecutive days (1 was excluded and the other was not).

I also think Busk Jakobsen should have been excluded for going back into the pits because if the red lights were on before he fell the 2 minutes should have been put straight back onto get the riders back round.

I was amused that Ben was allowed in the re-run of the semi-final when he was pushed away from the gate (thought he was inside the white line also).

On Saturday we had a referee admit a mistake and reinstate a rider who had the spokes removed from his wheel.

Hopefully more of the same next year. :drink::cheers:

I play golf/football/snooker/tennis/pool and only keep the winners medals, anything else is pointless as only remember winners IMO. Like I said if people want to remember second and third places then by all means but let's face it, Olympics is a bit different to the premier league fours let's face it! GPs fair enough and World Cup

Sorry it wasn't directed entirely at you as such, it was just I was fed up reading through this thread and seeing people moan about stuff, and most of these people weren't even there!!

There are things to be ironed out, for sure, but at the same time, that was a really entertaining weekend and the value for money was incredible!! Looking forward to next year's event already, and bringing the tent back along :D

All the best

Rob

To add to my earlier post about all the positives.

When arriving on Sunday it would have been useful to have a printed sheet giving riders and draw for both competitions.

Stupidly having had a couple of beers I walked from the Harvester pub which was a mistake. You can see the track about 100 yards away as the crow flies but a crazy system meant we had to walk about 25 minutes around the entire perimeter of the Showground to gain entry at Gate 14. Maybe a shuttle bus or simply open another gate.

Maybe Plymouth should get the seeded spot for the 2017 final and can defend a title. Panther fans would still come to see there top 2 in the individual or if they made the PL4's Final.

Minor points from a very good weekend. The track staff worked very hard to keep the dust down on a humid and hot weekend. Plenty to build on for 2017. Well done to all the organisers and also the riders who gave 100% despite some reported low pay.

What a brilliant weekend that was at Peterborough, I was there both days , Saturday on my own then took my girlfriend on Sunday who also commented on what a brilliant days racing it was , from my own point of view I have no complaints what so ever, £30.00 for 70+ races was brilliant value. Well done to the p,boro track staff for producing such a good race track , with so many lines allowing the riders to show their skills off to the highest degree .

Bring it on for next year

We did the same Saturday night in the pitch black only in reverse. Walked/stumbled from the tent to the Harvester only to find a 12 foot fence. So we then had to walk along the fence until we found a gate we could get out of! Stupid design/layout. I suggest when there people camping they may want to let people out fo a gate so they can go the direct way! Or sign post thing.

Another complaint was the entertainment again. Bought a ticket, told us the entertainment was in "the East of England Showground", great, but where in the Showground?! Maybe next year put it on the ticket so people know. Also, all the other announced planned stuff, apparently there was an ex-riders talk in, where and when? We heard/saw nothing about it. The football got cancelled to due to "lack of interest", again, advertise it! Hopefully these things are seen as constructive feedback because the main event (the speedway) was top notch and great value.

Well that's fair enough, if that's your opinion I can honestly say I disagree with it!! :D

As I'm not in a position to compete in public at anything, (for obvious reasons) I would, if I could, certainly keep anything no matter what it was that I won because it would always be a reminder of the varied career you had in whatever you did?

I couldn't possibly just throw things away because it was the wrong colour, that is just like throwing away all the time and effort you put in to get it?

That's my opinion so I guess we'll be agreeing to disagree sometime later today!! ;)

Well I'm glad "you" enjoyed it Rob and I sincerely hope you, (and your tent) get another great weekend next year, with a more ironed out meeting to enjoy all over again!! :D

Best Wishes.

You're quite right, two different referees did make two different decisions.

Unfortunately, Graham Reeve was already committed to refereeing at Buxton on Sunday. But of course I'd have thought that earlier planning could have sorted that problem.

Access in and out the EoES has become much worse over the years as green space becomes concrete or is fenced off, and entrances/exits become unused. I don't think that has helped general attendances for the period. If you wanted to go to the speedway and someone said that they'd drop you off and pick you up from the EoES entrance then you'd probably find something else to do if you knew what that entailed.
