Shale Searcher
Not something that he has cocked up. The track is better than it has been in years gone by, when there was only one passing line out by the fence. The drainage on the track has been improved enormously but due to the lowest point being the centre green & the dog track being at least 10" above the speedway track, we will always have a problem. The sand accumulates gallons of water when there is heavy rain & the dog crew don't give a toss about the speedway track. They dig holes in & under the kick boards which allows sand & water onto the track. If you want to know how much work goes into the track, look up the Swindon Blog, a great read. Just been to the blunsdon blog, and theres nowt there! Except a paragraph saying the blog is on summer holiday!!! How do you view it's history? There was no buttons/dropdown or any link go read past content????
A ORLOV
Weather still dry, sunny but a bit more cloud about, forecast now shows rain pushed back to later this afternoon but heavy rain due between 3 and 6pm. They will have to sort out what they are going to do otherwise Jason will throw another fit if he arrives and it is rained off. Makes sense, Rosco must have read my post, ha ha. cityrebel
If the riders are already in the country, then surely you have to give the meeting every chance to be run.
MattK
Who does actually benefit from calling off a meeting at 1pm? As CityRebel says, the riders would already be in the country, if not at the stadium, track preparation will already have begun and the bulk of the attendance will live within 30 minutes of the track. tocha
Two excellent explanations re Blunsdon track drainage that, hopefully "The Voice of Reason" will comprehend. Was looking forward to being there tonight but guy who was kindly going to give me a lift there and back has phoned to say that his wife can't get off work in time for us to expect to get there from Kent given rush hour traffic. Guess I'll have to settle for having to watch Wales beating England instead! Double disappointment Bryn!
A ORLOV
Who does actually benefit from calling off a meeting at 1pm? As CityRebel says, the riders would already be in the country, if not at the stadium, track preparation will already have begun and the bulk of the attendance will live within 30 minutes of the track. Riders, some travel a long distance plus their mechanics who do not always travel with the rider but have to load up a van and travel from far away as well. Plus any fans that were going to travel from Lakeside. Edited June 16, 2016 by A ORLOV
cityrebel
The problem is, if the forecast is dodgy no one turns up to watch it. The fans know that the majority of riders don't want to ride on a wet track. Lakeside will have the same dilemma for tomorrow nights return fixture. The weather looks poor for Friday, so do they stick or do they twist!

A ORLOV
Just had a heavy shower in South Swindon, but no idea if it went north to the track.
Steve Shovlar
Another meeting called off in dry conditions when there is a threat of rain. Same happened at Poole and Matt Ford apologised saying it was a wrong call. Seems the same has happened here.

Sidney the robin
If there is an early posponement is it right that the club does not have to pay rent for the evening.?
