Swindon V Lakeside 16/06.

Recommended Posts

Weather forecast awful, not much chance this one will go ahead - which would mean no home meeting from June 2 until July 4.

Apart from more pot holes in the car park will we see any evidence of the new stadium?

Apparently they're filling in the pot holes with GI's broken promises - eventually.

It's not the potholes that are being filled, it's those enormous mounds that you can see at the back of the car park. I'm beginning to think there's more chance of a communist government in Parliament than a new stadium at the Abbey.

With Corbyn leading the Labour party and the Tories in meltdown over the EU, you might well be right.

If they have had the rain we have just had in Southern Swindon, where you would have needed a canoe to travel along the road, and rain forecast from 10am till 10pm tomorrow, there is very little chance of this meeting being on.

Add to that Rosco getting pi##ed while celebrating Wales beating England at footy in the afternoon.

Usually Rosco only really supports Wales in Rugby and England footie...unless something's changed!

If the track has been cleared of rain regularly this week, and you stead clear of the "BIG" Showers tomorrow, they are forecast to be a little less widespread tomorrow, you could be ok. A lot will depend if you get a claggy morning, (low cloud, no Sun, low temps) = less angry showers due to less diurnal heating.. Or, Sunshine from the off (higher temps will induce diurnal heating) = Angry, heavy thunderstorms that will kill off the meeting....

The problem is that the drainage although having been improved is still not able to cope with lots of rain, also an enormous amount of water flows on to the track from the dog track bringing sand with it, and if the track surface is wet it may be difficult working on it to clear the sand etc.

I thought that 'The Fat Controller' was re-assigned his duties by his bro - from being track curator to having sort out the drainage problems on the dog track, a few years ago?

Something else he's cocked up?

Because the dog track is higher than the speedway track and the stadium owners would not allow a drainage channel to be dug between the two tracks, due to cables and there not being a lot of room, and the dog people continually creating channels for the water to drain off on to the speedway track it cannot be easily sorted. Also the inside of the track and centre green is the lowest point so water collects there, especially on the inside of the first bend. Years ago the drainage channel from the first bend away from the stadium became blocked because the staff had never been able to clean it out, so the water had nowhere to go. I think something was sorted out but not sure what.

Not something that he has cocked up. The track is better than it has been in years gone by, when there was only one passing line out by the fence. The drainage on the track has been improved enormously but due to the lowest point being the centre green & the dog track being at least 10" above the speedway track, we will always have a problem. The sand accumulates gallons of water when there is heavy rain & the dog crew don't give a toss about the speedway track. They dig holes in & under the kick boards which allows sand & water onto the track. If you want to know how much work goes into the track, look up the Swindon Blog, a great read.

Weather still dry, sunny but a bit more cloud about, forecast now shows rain pushed back to later this afternoon but heavy rain due between 3 and 6pm.

They will have to sort out what they are going to do otherwise Jason will throw another fit if he arrives and it is rained off.

Two excellent explanations re Blunsdon track drainage that, hopefully "The Voice of Reason" will comprehend. Was looking forward to being there tonight but guy who was kindly going to give me a lift there and back has phoned to say that his wife can't get off work in time for us to expect to get there from Kent given rush hour traffic. Guess I'll have to settle for having to watch Wales beating England instead!
