Should Ex Riders Get Into Speedway Free?

Recommended Posts

I can remember when the Speedway Control Board used to issue season long passes to riders, officials and journalists involved in the sport.

In regard to my previous Post, I now have a recollection that there was a criteria in regard to the issue of passes to riders - one being that they had to be a contract rider and also a member of the Speedway Riders Association. I believe the SRA issued the passes to riders on behalf of the Speedway Control Board.

An SCB licence clearly states on the back "This licence does NOT entitle entry to ANY speedway event".

Free entry for a former rider, a currently-licensed referee or your tea lady is entirely at the discretion of the staging promoter.

Berwick's offer of a lifetime pass to every former Bandit (proving hugely popular with all concerned) requires the ex-rider to contact the club by e-mail to allow his pass to be mailed to him.

Belle Vue are the same in that they request riders get in touch beforehand.

Rob, you barely qualify as being referred to as a "rider" anyway surely ?

10 meetings, over 4 years with an average that even Justin Elkins would have laughed at does not make you some kind of font of knowledge about all things racing...

How many did you actually win Rob ? I'm guessing looking at your average, perhaps one ?

Coventry junior when they had 6 race meetings. One proper meeting.

Then was a joke for Sheffield.

Now changing tyres for kwik fit or someone in Nuneaton or the like..

In Ipswich terms, he made Craig Hyde look like Tomasz Gollob

I'm pretty certain this troll called Robert72 is not Rob Homer as Rob is now a successful car designer and lives in America. I doubt he has time to troll on here for a start and he's not the type to do that.

Rob is a decent bloke and although people think they are slating Robert72 about his apparent career, I'm confident they are actually slating the wrong person, which is unfair on Rob.

To add to this, I've just spoken to Rob and he's never even been on here, plus his name is Rob, not Robert.

Thanks Rob's mum/dad/granny/grandad (delete as appropriate)

Mate actually. I'm not defending Robert72 at all, but Rob having his name dragged through the mud for some faceless troll is out of order and I'm sure anyone would do the same for a mate.

Only having a laugh

So the hunt for Robert72 carries on

Was there not two original contenders for the robert72 tag, but the other one ruled on on age and only because this Homer was reported as being born in 1972.

erm...because they are?

So you've spent the last half hour trolling through this thread to find something to criticize. You must be a very sad man Leslie. And i only thought Gavin stooped that low. Although you didn't set off a volley of abuse, so i suppose that is a blessing..

I think you mean "trawling" through the thread. Trolling is something else, more familiar to you.

However I didn't have to trawl through anything. The forum automatically goes to my last read post on any topic. On this particular topic that was one page back. Now it may take you half an hour to read one page of posts (I can believe that), but for me it didn't.

Any more questions I can help you with? Maybe Jerran Hart's release date?

Robert 72 , is Robert Jackson . used to have a second account called Jackson 2

And while we are on the subject . Yes ex riders (of a decent calibre and length of service ) should get in free . especailly while hobby photographers are swanning around with their tags dangling like they own the place . riders have given something to the sport and should be rewarded . photographers have given nothing in fact the exact opposite , At cardiff on saturday , there must have been 100 camera wielding hobbyists taking photos. can anyone tell me of the benefit to speedway of a single 1 of their photo's ?? didnt see any in the daily papers , nor being used as stills on news reports . so wheres the benefit ? while ex riders and promoters , people who have their own money on the line have to pay to get in .

Never heard of an ex-rider called Robert Jackson - strange that!

There was an article in the star last week about WRSA implementing an initiative that gives ex riders the choice of 3 types of membership - Gold, Silver & Bronze. Gold members will be permitted to attend speedway meetings free of charge if accompanied by a paying adult, and will also make themselves available for publicity purposes whilst at the meeting. Just need to have ridden in 25 league meetings to qualify for membership which seems fair enough.

Doesn't say what the cost of the membership is, or where any funds raised with go though.

Except of course that they are NOT hobbyists. They are British and foreign professional photographers who have to be vetted and issued with a pass to allow them to take photos for their chosen career.

Just another rant from you.

Membership of the W.S.R.A. is £25 a year, although senior riders are exempt dependant on age. :t: Fund are used to assist riders who have been badly injured or are in a wheelchair or have hit hard times.

I pressume with the Gold, Silver & Bronze packages, subs will be different for each then.

As it's WSRA, do they support riders globally or just UK based ones?
