constantly ruining the sport with stupid rules ,

independant board needed

we now have the spectacle of peter karlsson at reserve for wolves, his average will then shoot up to virtually 8/9 or even 10 and go straight to number 1

draft reserve rules are now hindering the brits not helping them

Are you aware of the concept of rolling averages? Pk would need to be averaging about 25 per 4 rides to get his average up to ten by the next set of green sheets!

An independent board is a good idea though, but who would fund it, appoint members etc.

rolling averages - yes ..ellis went from 3.00 to 8.00 in only a handful of meetings , his average will now never go back down to 3 , will probably hover around 6 ,as he yoyo's but if he's at reserve the last few weeks of the season and he starts his stint on a 6 and he ends the season at reserve his average will no doubt go up to well over 7 , what happens next season when he starts on a 7+ ?

and thats just one example,

They actually OWN the sport in this country. 'Independent board' would be an idea but the BSPA would still have to agree to it, construct it and fund it. Maybe you'd be better writing to a few promoters.

Ellis is not comparable to pk as ellis' rolling average started only this season I.E. edr riders do not have a genuine rolling average.

Pks average is based on last 20 matches.

So his average will be far less elastic than the edr riders.

If ellis spends half the season at reserve, and a quarter each at hl and 2nd string, his average will end up around 6 Imo (he will average about8 as reserve, 3 as hl 5 as 2nd sting imo).

Ah, now we know the real reason. A Heathen questioning a Wolverhampton rider being signed, all within the rules. Wouldn't have been mentioned if it had been Swindon and Belle Vue.

You understand that his average will be based on his last 20 meetings? No way will Ellis average 8 over 20 meetings, given some of those will be in the main body of the team.

And if he is averaging over 8, then he won't go back to reserve spot will he?

Does this massively differ from sides in the past who have signed riders on artificially low averages who have went on to have excellent seasons (not even sure this is the case here**)

It was always seen as smart management when sides like Poole picked up riders like Cegelski who went on to have a block buster season, same with Dryml at Oxford and other numerous examples in the PL.

**With all due respect to him Peter Karlson has been a sensational racer, a neutrals hero, but he is an old man now who isn’t much more than a 5.5 EL rider and he will likely end up on that average as he will likely struggle if he does ever move up to Number 1 which will then decrease his average.

he rides as good as a number 1 at monmore it will only be his away form that could drop his average ,

independant board needed

Who in their right minds would want to serve on it?

What would they get for their time and "expertise"? (or has some fairy godmother suggested that they all do it for nothing?)

Who would appoint the successful candidates to their posts? And who would pay them? And how would the person who pays the piper NOT be calling the tune?

Who would have the power to sack any of this new independent board?

I'm assuming that anyone supporting the idea that speedway promoters who invest their cash into their clubs should give up their rights to say how their sport is governed, would similarly go to work, and hand over their weekly / monthly pay to an independent third party to run their households, and for someone else to decide what the money they earn is spent on, when you can and can't have a holiday, or a new car, etc?

Out of interest...what other Professional sports are run by the Promotors/Owners of Clubs?

Maybe it's me, but wouldn't it be better to find ways of making things better for the future, rather than constantly looking at reasons not to do so?

Is it really working now?

Could it be improved?

If so...how?

If every promotor was singing from the same hymn sheet and had the same aims, then it wouldn't be so much a problem...but they aren't.

I think in reality most of them, although the owners aren't necessarily called promoters (and indeed speedway promoters are not always the owners).

It's an eye opener, when you google for a list of Sports and their governing bodies....and then read how they are actually run, some of them.

Interesting the list the FIM regulate too.
