Scunthorpe V Berwick (pl) 3/6/2016

Outsider I don't believe the team has downed tools (some haven't even picked them up)and agree it's fine margins and don't really like to see gate and go speedway but over the last two meeting we are constantly nowhere near in the first bend thus allowing away pairings to dictate what happens during the race. Yes it's exciting to watch them being hunted down by the scorpions and that's the type of racing I like. For me I take speedway for what it is and result doesn't really matter but for lots of fans they want to see a winning team which we haven't got.

Phil; agree we have not fully picked the tools up with the exception of Ryan. Its not all about winning for me; but it is a results business and thats what folks want to see.

For me there is interest in trying to get a tune out of the team we have. Its part and parcel of sport there were, are and always will be winners and losers.

Its hard to explain why the team have gone so flat. Genuinely there was a lot of excitment and plaudits generated after the British Semi Final; so we would do well to feed off that. But the two home defeats have taken the air out it really. More so as we have made changes that have not instantly had the desired effect. The last two meetings have not been near the quality we have come to expect. But the track "conditions" do play a part and we are a team set up to chase opponents down over 4 laps; not win gate go!

Peterborough; Sheffield and Berwick have arrived with riders who we know can win races at the EWR. All with at least three in their team. With Scorpions being very much a non gating team and off form its easy to see where meetings can get away from us. You cannot give away much to the opposition at the EWR because theres very little home advantage. So many of the top PL boys know the track inside and out.

I do not think there is no lack of effort some of the coming together down the straights as the Scorpions tried to get in the race was alarming Big Josh, MPT, Wilko, Andreas and Alex were all squeezed hard up to the fence at times trying to find a way. So I wont accept the team has downed tools far from it.

Sometimes you have to give the opponent a bit of credit and all the victorious visiting teams have had riders in there that were sharper; more determined or on better equipment and you have to look at that and see what we can do to reach that standard. We are not a million miles off ! we still have riders in the team who I believe are some of the best to do the job. Its fine margins mechanical;pyschological; physical and sometimes when your lucks out its out

Sat here I have written down 7 names and their current averages all within the 42.50 points limit that on paper might give us a boost into the rest of the season. It involves moving things around a bit and puts MPT at reserve. But I wont put it up on here because I respect all of our team and their effort, daring and skill on our behalf. I hate changing I have said that time and again; I want to trust in the decisions we made coming through for us. But at the same time we all understand that the team; the club; is bigger than anyone.

Lets get our heads up and go forward appreciating we have a team to follow at one of the great race tracks in mordern British Speedway History.

Keep the faith.

A poor meeting by the Scorpions. I dont believe the track was prepared to how the lads are used to in an evening meeting and full credit to Berwick for taking full advantage of our misfortunes. As for the start marshal, it was me and some chap from Sheffield doing it, as we're licensed to do so and yeah it was our first time doing it. We got some abuse thrown our way by Berwick fans and by my own admittance I could have done a better job. Thats in the past now, us scunny fans have to work with Rob now to try keep as many people interested in Scunthorpe Speedway as possible before all the crowd goes then we wont have speedway in Scunthorpe.

I was amongst my fellow Berwick fans and there was no abuse thrown to the start Marshall. It was all towards Vardy and her awful refereeing skills!!!

Shads & B4E, sorry I didn't spot you last Friday or I'd have come and said hello.

ScunnyDan, the job you did was absolutely fine, so stop worrying. Even Mrs G said you did great.

I suspect the Bandits fans were directing their wrath at the referee, who had a shocker. The re-run for Heat 7 was perplexing. Even worse was Heat 6, I couldn't understand what the Dutch lad was supposed to have done wrong.

All the best

Hummel swooped across the Scunny rider on the last bend (can't recall who) very similar to a move Josh Auty made on Tyson Nelson a few years back to give the Scorps the win by a point

There was no complaint whatsoever from anyone from Berwick regarding the starting-gate officials, or any Scunny officials, all of who made us very welcome.

Margaret Vardy however, was completely out to lunch. Hummel's bizarre exclusion for doing absolutely nothing wrong was bad enough --- her decision to re-run Heat 7 was simply laughable. Thank God the end result didn't hang on either 'decision'.....

Pretty sure Kevin Doolan was rounding the final couple of bends when the race was stopped bizarre decision

definitely not abusing the start gate staff just a wee bit amazed by some of the referees decisions so let her know our feelings. Been a great weekend results wise for us bandits, but have to say we were spoiled with some brill racing at both Scunthorpe and Rye House.
