Redcar V Newcastle League Cup Thursday 2nd June 2016

Recommended Posts

Am actually slightly disappointed to come away with only a draw from that. I'm not one to normally blame 1 decision for costing us a meeting, but the decision to exclude Andersen from heat 5 has cost us the meeting. A clear cut case of all 4 back in my opinion.

That being said a gutsy performance from the Bears + guests - not the most entertaining meeting of all time but the scores kept it interesting.

Ulrich was very good value at number 1 - was stuffed up i na couple of heats but gave as good as got as well. His pass of Kus in heat 10 was certainly forceful. Branford impressed me as well - a good solid 6 and a decent audition for somewhere? Payne also very solid, 5+4 from your number 7 you can't complain. Only worry again was Bukhave. Not blaming the lad himself for the position he is in - but would be surprised if that was not his last home meeting for Redcar. One change will not make us into world beaters - but should at least give us enough to win some home meetings!

For Newcastle, Kus showed he has not forgotten the quick way around the MPA after a bad first ride. Steve Worrall was also excellent. Robson was decent enough, and Garcia started well but man and machine seemed to struggle with the extra number of rides. Have to have a big concern over Phillips - if he was ever going to score points it would be here.

Personally thought the Bears just deserved the win (I would say that!) - but pleased to see us not lose against a strong Newcastle select.

Quite chuffed for Redcar tonight, being a fan of a team who are having a similar sort of season to them I can understand results like this one tonight can really lift the spirits.

Which team?

Aye, looking at Ayres on Monday and Payne tonight.... Phillips seems a little way off them and although harsh is the difference between us getting away points, he needs to start at least beating other number 7's.

Started the season ok, but hasnt been on the pace in the majority of his races ive seen.

Heat 13 was a killer tonight, gated on a 5-1 but ended up a 1-5 by bend 2 and that was that.

Made a late decision to travel down tonight and enjoyed a good meeting although obviously a frustrating outcome for the Diamonds. That said we didn't deserve to win and were probably fortunate to get a draw after the poor decision to exclude Andersen from heat 5 (obvious all 4 back). Richie also got away with a blatant roll but he was picked off by Belego anyway.

The Bears were certainly strengthened by having Ostergaard in place of the out of form Bjerre but when we turn up with 3 guests we can hardly complain. Also no point in moaning about having so many riders missing - this is the path we chose so we just have to get on with it.

Tonight, like Friday, we were hindered by a normally very reliable guest having a really poor night. Richie just couldn't get out of the start and didn't look quick either. 13 last week, 6 this week on the same track but that's the way it goes. Garcia also couldn't replicate last week's score but certainly no complaints from me. Coty rode his heart out and was involved in the best and most brutal race I've seen in a long time with Ostergaard. Really enjoyed watching him ride - he couldn't have given any more he just couldn't get out of the start. Steve was immaculate as ever - heat 13 always looked like being decisive and unfortunately with Richie not at the races he had to try and deal with both of the Bears top 2 on either sider of him and just got squeezed out. Robbo did a good job and Kus was excellent after a poor opening ride. Danny is struggling - he can't buy a start hence he is trying to anticipate it and getting pulled back. A tough job riding at this level when you're not scoring, look at Steve just a couple of years ago and look at him now.

Redcar rode well with only Buckhave not contributing. Having a decent number 1 made all the difference. They need a decent number 2 badly.

Racing was decent - heat 6 an absolute classic. First time at the STMP for a few years and I enjoyed it - would be better if there was some grip for the riders particularly around bends 3 and 4. Richie and Kus lost places by drifting wide there. Needs to be more lines for the riders to attack as there used to be but it's one of the best tracks in the country for viewing. Great to get so close to the action.

Only had time to see the first race of the junior match. Nice smooth win for young Mr Parr. Hope the young Redcar lad was ok - nasty fall.

Certainly didn't expect this result but hey, I'll take it!! :D

We left the door ajar for Newky the other week and I honestly thought they would trash Redcar on current form or, at the very least, do enough to win, but fair play to the Bears, anything can happen on your own midden and so it's proved!! :t:

Well decided to go down to this meeting in the end and wished I hadn't. I thought Redcar deserved the victory and were only denied the win by a poor refereeing decision. Steve W was fantastic for the Diamonds and apart from Heat 13 looked like he was trying to win the match on his own along with Kus who apart from a first ride blip was back to the Matej we know (on the road). We missed Rose massively last night and just shows how having Phillips in the team and not scoring makes us vulnerable. I hope Redcar fans don't mind me saying this but even with an understrength team we should have beaten you and quite easily but to your credit you came out fighting, spurred on by Dangerous Brian (Ostergaard) and determined to prevent us from reaching the League Cup semi's. Ostergaard seemed to instil into the Bears something which has been sadly lacking in previous performances from what I have seen and maybe with changes that were hinted at in the programme you may kick on from here.

One other point and I appreciate it is the same for both teams but I thought the track was very poor tonight, nothing on the inside and the dirt (what little their was) was on the outside and nothing on bends 3 and 4. Can someone inform the guy on the waterbowser that when you come out to water the track you have to turn the valve on to release some water!!!

I think it maybe time to look at other options instead of Phillips. Redcar is one track where he has probably done more laps than most and he was shocking last night. He was miles off the pace and this maybe down to the fact that as he is not scoring the points so does not have the money to invest in some equipment. He seems to be trying to force the issue and by that trying to jump the start and when he misses the start makes not headway in catching the other riders up. He was well beaten by both Redcar reserves last night and you wouldexpect him to defeat at least Payne. The only point he got was gifted to him when Anderson was disqualified. I do not know off the top of my head which riders are amongst the draft riders but if Branford is one of them and is available, based on last nights performance I would snap him up. I know people will think I am overreacting at last nights defeat, but I don't think I am. I am wondering whether this is going to be how our season pan out, get ourselves into good positions in the league and cup competitions only to have to field a weakened 'select' side at the business end of competitions as riders have other commitments.

Rant over.

Yours, one very disappointed Diamonds fan.:cry:

so.... On to next thursday, will we be missing the swedes again.... Its becoming a farce really and a bit, well a lot like i slated peterboro for last year.

Still believe we should have had some balls and told old Havvy or the bspa, if they made us ride last night where to go....not our fault the competition has been delayed and its not as if they get the final out the way early in the season is it. You cant allow so many to double up etc then force a team to ride when you want.

So frustrating having a decent side, that only all gets together at home (sometimes).

Btw how did ostergaard get rider of the night lol, how did stevie wonder pick him over firstly steve Worrall, but more worryingly Bellego??

Totally agree and to quote the BSPA 'how was that meeting in the best interests of speedway.

No idea how Ostergaard got rider of the night, maybe because he rode into most riders instead of trying to pass them!!! Worrall was head and shoulders above anyone else and as you state Bellego was next best.

Onwards and hopefully upwards.

Rider of the night award is chosen by the meeting sponsors and is always a Redcar rider.

To be fair to Ulrich, both Kus and Garcia were very forceful on him as well. Didn't appear to be any complaints from any of the riders involved.

It was good hard racing, the type we dont see enough of imo... Maybe one was borderline out of bend 4, but nothing too bad to be honest.

Agree with that, the Kus one on bend 4 I thought was very hard. Think Kus rode him hard on bend 4 and annoyed him a bit so re-paid the favour and a bit extra!
