waiheke1
I've never been so excited about a british final in years. Finally the riders have the track to race on and it will have plenty of space at the first bend so we should be in for a treat. Agree 100%. No clear favorite, a brand new stadium and super race track. The Brandon finals of 70s and 80s had excellent fields and cut throat competition for qualification spots, but certainly was more a Gaters track than a racers. This should be an excellent meeting.
BUDGIE
What I mean is over 20 heats, if u miss the gate you are normally up against only one other title contender and have a better chance of coming from the back to the front. In the one race to decide the title though, the chances of coming past three top riders is pretty low. I have zero stats to back this theory up though! I've always thought that 'Finals' in one off events are just unfair. They are OK for a series (ie SGP) as that evens itself out over 11/12 meetings but a one off that can get a silly winner! (not that it has happened too often in the British Final!) Edited June 4, 2016 by BUDGIE

waiheke1
If you're a consistently bad gater though then that rider doesn't deserve to win Maybe I'm just a traditionalist, but in a one off meeting I'd rather the title was decided by top scorer over 20 heats. If u could do that despite gating badly, you'd deserve to win.

waiheke1
PC & Mort plus a few more others will be able to name would be he exeception to that ruleWould pc have won at Gothenburg in 76 if he had to race Off against simmmo Crump and Maurer? Maybe, but I doubt it if he had gated fourth. Same with say mort at Brandon in 83 up against Lee Carter and Graham.

SCB
Personally, I like a final, seeing a big finish is nice. But I do agree that a poor gater while able to pick off one top rider in each heats will struggle to pick off 3 in a final. I'm going to claim it's why Bomber hasn't won more title Honestly can't wait for this. Such a shame it's not a weekend meeting, I'd happily make the 7-8 hour round trip to be there after Mondays meeting at the NSS.

DSC67
Be great if this was held on a Saturday evening and given stand alone status . That would make it more accessible to fans who can't travel to Manchester on a Monday night , not all of us can justify taking two days off work for a speedway meaning it would also make far more family friendly

KIRKYLANE
It is Monday because sky want Monday. I feel sure that Belle Vue would have prefered Friday or Saturday.
Trees
It is Monday because sky want Monday. I feel sure that Belle Vue would have prefered Friday or Saturday. The fans would've preferred Friday or Saturday! Do they not use the red button anymore? That would've done for those not being able to attend and everyone else could've recorded the rerun in the night, sorted 😊
DSC67
It is Monday because sky want Monday. I feel sure that Belle Vue would have prefered Friday or Saturday. As there's not a great deal of their usual Friday / Saturday night sport to show at this time of year ( no football or rugby etc) added to the fact that they have 5 dedicated sports chanells I can see no real reason why they would prefer a Monday night
heathen chemistry
wonder if the belle vue management are pissed off with having to run bf when sky want it on, we.ve just had a bank holiday wouldnt it of been an idea to have it then, if it had to be a monday bank holiday is surely the best, more fans , kids off school etc or maybe sky preffered to show the amatuer tiddlywinks world final in preference
keepturningleft
A Saturday night staging automatically ups the status of an event such as this. Long time Belle Vue fans will never forget those BLR championships in the 60's and 70's - Saturday night, under lights, huge crowds, magic! Monday nights just don't hold the same kudos. We have to backwards to go forwards in some cases.

We have to backwards to go forwards in some cases. Many great nights for the BLRC and the place was always packed to the rafters, some 25,000 I believe. The British Final was held on a Weds night back then though and Brandon was also rammed every year as I recall. Perhaps next year and for the future it could be given the prestige of a Saturday meeting, also if the NSS is awarded any other big meetings like a gp or whatever they could have the British Final around the same time and get double the use out of the temporary seating they may have installed, keeps the costs down and allows for a proper full house if the interest is there. These things were just pie in the sky until recently but this track and stadium need to be used as often as possible and riders will be queuing up to get a spin round it I'm sure, so here's hoping for a cracking meeting for the final.
