Edinburgh Select V Belle Vue Colts (ch) 20/5/16 @7.30pm

Recommended Posts

So something a bit different this week as we host a NL league meeting so to speak. With home starts Max Clegg and Jye Etheridge leading the way for the home boys and former Monarchs Mitchell Davey and William Lawson making their returns also, with 3 local lads making up the team.

The colts will be Bringing up their normal NL side that will include Edinburgh man Dan Bewley at reserve. Unfortunately young Joe Lawlor who is 15 isn't allowed to take his place in the side and replaced by Cradley man Ben Basford.

Good to see that Edinburgh have managed to put on such an attractive fixture on the 20th. That would have been the day of the british semi-final at Glasgow until Edinburgh objected because they knew they would have a fixture on that night. Hope they get a big crowd.

Is Willie Lawson just having a bit of fun or is he on his way back?

What age is he now?

Lawson is now twenty nine, I doubt any team would sign a rider that has been away from competitive speedway for the length of time he has.

Happened plenty of times before, when Stoke signed Lee Complin, when Rye brought Andrew Silver back after 15 odd years away from racing, Mark Simmonds at Plymouth, Stuart Swales at Redcar to name just a few. Lawson would be on a pretty attractive average too I'd imagine.

Add in Andy Galvin and Mark Courtney. Plus all the guys who fought for six years in WWII, I suppose.

Willie Lawson had so much talent -- remember, less than eight years ago he was in the World U-21 Final alongside Sayfudinov, Holder, Woffinden, etc -- and it would certainly be possible for him to come back in at PL level and score meaningful points.

If he wants to.

I cannot understand about Joe Lawlor not be allowed to ride because of his age, as he rode for the Colts against the Brummies riding at Number six and gaining 1+1.

It's because it's not classed as a NL match. So the rules are different

Not a great meeting, but for £12 i certainly can't complain. Plenty of effort on show, and good to see Willie Lawson back on a bike. Ace to see Dan Bewley get an 18 point max though. One for the future hopefully.
