KN1
In actual fact it was not Plymouth who didn't want to carry on, very bad sportsmanship and announcement by Somerset.
Cliffeboy
Sounds like a bit of a disaster last night unfortunately, in all fairness one thing you never get is problems with the track at the OTA which is often praised for its quality. I can't remember in 16 years of following the Rebels of many matches getting called off during the action. I travelled down one season for a match against Edinburgh and it was called off after 2 heats, and another time against Newport , I think it was Zorros debut, when a mist rolled in from the sea and you could not see the track! Strange shout from the Plymouth promotion as their team were definitely still in it only 6 points adrift and Jack had just won another race. Najjer
Plymouth wanted to carry on somerset didnt so nothing strange on plymouths behalf! If that's correct, that makes the earlier posts about fans losing out even sadder. This is just another reason why the sport is in the mess it's in. That said Barker and Kurtz clearly weren't interested in carrying on, whilst Jack Holder and Stefan Nielsen were obviously revelling in the conditions. Gresham
In the last race, Barker could clearly seen looking up at the refs box when passing and shaking his head and gesticulating...making his thoughts known. They interviewed Josh whilst grading, he said there was a slight berm that needed to be taken out, and if they graded level they could continue racing. They took so much off it looked like an ice rink by the time they'd finished. I've watched Somerset since it opened, and it is a great race circuit...but I've noticed there is less and less shale/dirt each season. Last night was ridiculous...I've never in all my life seen speedway cancelled for such little water...and complaint of slight berm...there was hardly any dirt. I don't blame the riders...it's because these bikes cannot race on less than perfect conditions for them...which is slick and dry. Which when you look at the big picture of Speedway...is a mental situation to be in. What other motor sport would have been cancelled with that little amount of rain last night? I took this photo as they were doing a track inspection before the last race...if Speedway bikes can't ride on that, then the Sport needs a complete rethink imo. http://i.imgsafe.org/7b662e8.jpg Edited May 21, 2016 by Gresham

Najjer
Would be nice to hear the official reason why it was called off , to prevent bickering on here. Lol You only have to look at Greaham's picture to see the reason it was called off was because we got 10 points ahead! It was always going to happen once it started spitting (not torrential rain), Plymouth had nothing to race for and nothing to lose other than riders to injury and Somerset needed to win by 10 points. So everybody wins.... Except the fans who have travelled from wherever they have, then parted with around £20 each for 10 races and 1 procession.
Arson fire
Do you get a refund for missing 4 heats?? As im sure promotions wouldnt pay a full refund if only 4 heats were completed before it was called off.

Remember that well, after two rides each i think four Newport riders were on a max. Wato, Lund, mads and collins? Fog was getting worse tbf but we totally outclasser somerset that night
chopper
I can remember a NL meeting at Belle Vue may have been 2011 against Buxton where Robert and Jason Garrity were stopped from racing by the ref because he determined it was too wet , they were at the tapes wanting to ride and having a ball doing so. Fog was getting worse tbf but we totally outclasser somerset that night In those days we used to stand on the third bend, that match was weird tho. We could see the riders gate, then they would disappear completely, then reappear as if by magic as they approached us on the third bend then sort of go again as they exited the fourth bend only to reappear again at the gate lol. The annoying thing about that day was as I recall was the weather had been lovely all day.

I suppose that riders going out of view and then re-appearing made it a bit like the old County Ground. That happened there every week in perfect weather from some viewing points!
