Coventry V Lakeside This Friday (20/5) & Return Clash Saturday

Recommended Posts

Ha ha I still enjoyed it. I had a moan and a laugh with my friends about the track shape like I have done for the last ten years, even when we've won there.

Was the telly any good?

So so, in all honesty I've never been to lakeside but I new it would be a drubbing.

Never going to get close once Garrity was missing. Did we even ask Barker to step in?

Garrity would not have made the slightest difference

Yep me too. Called the result spot on minus the tactical.

Hey Ho, won't need to come next year so will probably do the B fixture as well as a farewell to my least favourite track.

Good cafe though.

The expected result tonight. Bees are pants.

So are Lakeside on oval speedway tracks.

I actually quite enjoyed it, although we all do when we win . A bit boring early on, but the weather improved, the track improved and the racing improved.

The usual sour grapes brigade are having their moan because their team doesn't have a divine right to win everything but what I liked was that, in my view everyone on both sides chipped in with some effort and I wouldn't say any rider on either side wasn't trying . All seemed to have a go even if some were only on a two lap dash but it was ok..

My impressions :

AJ - A captains innings. I think he only made the gate twice but was immaculate all night

Swid - Competent job

Rich- Low score through being caught in traffic and wrong place at the wrong time but deserved a better points return

Lewis B. - Finding his feet having been dropped to second string. I thought it was a gamble putting him in Heat 15 but suddenly the old Lewis from 2014 appeared and last off the gate he swept through on the inside of bend two and never looked back. Great ride in which he left KK and King in the distance. He was ecstatic and the crowd were behind him (well the Lakeside fans anyway) Hopefully there will be more of this to come

Kim- Slowly blossoming into a decent heatleader but still work in progress. His pass on Bomber was a good one that shows his progress

Super Meario = An interview with in the programme it seems he is still having trouble sorting his engines but it was his best meeting to date, and I think his first race win of the season. Good night for him.

Lewis K.- Jon Cook said on the mic they had a long chat with Lewis and explained that he shouldn't put himself under pressure to score points, just go out and enjoy it, which he did --with a paid maximum

KK - Impressive when he made that gate but not really with it when he didn't. I think the only rider he actually passed all night was Danny King

Danny- I like Danny. Usually scores fairly well a Lakeside. A ruthless move from AJ in heat 7 had him shaking his head in disbelief but he was ready next time out and held AJ off despite tremendous pressure to take the win. Great ride.

Leigh Lanham - On a moped for his first two rides then suddenly woke up and caused a few ripples. It didn't help his scoreline much but it gave Swidders a bit of a shock for a couple of laps.

Bomber. - I do like watching Bomber. Looked like he was going to be a thorn in the Lakeside side in his first couple of rides then inexplicably lost his way and looked fairly ordinary.

Kac- About what you would expect for a first timer at the track but what I will say for him is that he improved 100% in the course of the evening. Not enough to score points but enough to keep up for a couple of laps. I think the guy has a future and hope we haven't seen the last of him in GB

Sarj- Again, didn't trouble the scorers much, but got his head down and had a go. I liked his spirit.

Don't get me wrong we would have still been beaten but Garrity scored 26 in two meetings at Lakeside last season, its one of his better away tracks.

Another poor score for bomber, something is not right, as he said its him or me leaving, scores like that and bomber will be leaving Coventry sooner than later.

He's angling for a PL berth like Davey. It's going well so far.

So there away win doesn't count then I take it?

No, because it was at Leicester. If they were any good they'd be able to score at least 40 elsewhere, which they can't. Edited by CB252

Irrelevant IMHO. Swindon (2nd in the table) couldn't win at Leicester whilst Poole and Kings Lynn could only manage a draw.

Wolves were lucky Leicester had Davy watt otherwise it would of been a home win.

Bees only getting 33 was disappointing as they should of been better than that score.

No chance. Called it correctly before the start. Bomber is nearly always pony there. Sarj is woeful there too, Woryna was never going to score, Lanham needs to retire. Would have had KK and Kings scores the other way round. Garrity being there might have got us to a genuine 35 without a tactical. Edited by CB252

Yes of course.

Ulamek would have got double figures to have made all the difference.

The same Ulamek that has scored no more than 6 at home this year?

Absolutely priceless, thanks for the laugh.

Scoring from Harris getting worrying, 5 at home & then only 4 at Lakeside? Not like the bomber we're used to seeing.

He always seems to have a small run of poor form in an EL season, soon snaps out of it though.

Nobody will get points at Lakeside. Having been there tonight I've got to say I agree with Chris Holder. That place flies in the face of eveything a speedway track should be.

Off to Peterborough tomorrow to cleanse my eyes with some proper speedway.

He was expecting a speedway track I think! Looked close to tears in the pits the poor lad.

I don't agree.

Been to 25 meetings at 17 different tracks this season and easily the best was Lakeside v Poole.

In addition, with one exception Coventry have been pretty rubbish away from home all season whatever the shape of track.

He's not enjoying his speedway at the moment. It's reflected abroad which is why they are now not using him. It's showing in the EL and it definitely showed in what was one of his worst GP meetings.

It's a huge shame as he started the season really well both here & abroad but seems to have lost all confidence since being knocked out of qualifier. People constantly putting him down about the GP can't help.

I think a year away from the focus of the GP would help him though.

Lakeside is a marmite track, it was always going to be a struggle without Garrity. It was good to read Woryna improved as he had more rides, it can't be easy as we noticed with Craig Cook to learn the best lines without running into the fence. An up and down night for most of the others but thinking Harris is looking at a PL place so is doing poor !! get real give him some respect. He has the ability to do very well in this league, unfortunately I think Chris has a lot on his plate with poor form, gp's , out of qualifiers, unhappy with certain things for both club and BSPA, no Poland or Sweden.

I see no reason if a team wanted Harris in the PL why he couldn't do it, it would take a huge chunk of the teams average but would be a crowd puller, next year will Cook double up again if he can't get a ride in Poland ? Yes !!. These guys need to make a living, how can they survive on EL alone. They need a plan B and it's not a lack of ambition doubling up its earning money and paying bills.

If Chris Harris does not make the top eight in the GPs this year, I fear that we will lose the place for a British rider. If we do it may be a long while before another Brit is good enough to make the GPs. I do not see us getting a wild card pick either.

Riding Elite League only no longer pays enough money, so if no foreign bookings then no option but to try to get into the Premier League.
