A ORLOV
Not a good meeting for Swindon, Charles had massive bike problems and needs to get something sorted for the rest of the week. As I suggested our heat leaders Justin and Rohan struggled and along with a few exclusions all of which cost us the win. Impressed with Stefan with two good wins. Hope Adam is ok after his big off and check up on his way home. So congratulations to Poole and hope we can sort out the heat leader problem asap. Sidney the robin
Better riders out there on that average & it has to be now or never.Robin it is not just down to Rohan, for me i had my doubts before the season started this team has done well.Even today they could of won Morra fell a few races pulled back by that idiot referee might of gone the budgies way.Not all doom/gloom stick with it Lakeside will not get in the four. arnieg
Compare that to a Swindon side who had Tungate and Sedgeman as heat leaders , 2 riders who last season were premier league second strings!! Sedgmen had an average that would have made him number one at Berwick and Plymouth last year, so although he was fourth in Edinburgh averages to call him a second string is misleading. Tungate was second in the Ipswich averages which suggests he too was a heat leader - and he would also have been no 1 at Berwick and Plymouth. However both of them are 'over-matched' at heat leader positions, although Sedgmen produced a pretty good display today.
Sidney the robin
Didnt think it was very good meeting racing wise. Track started slick and then they decided to dtop watering before the interval. Track had a big blue groove on it at the end and bad dust. Riders really struggling. Outsidegate were the best. Huge crowd. The fans are still there as the crowd proved. Getting them there every week is the trick. Poole brought along a lot of fans. The scoreline kept it more exciting than the racing. Your racing Steve at home has been p... poor by all accounts last week at Wimbourne Rd was a disgrace.Holes in bend 1/2 Pedersen and Andersen both experienced pros fell did you forget that?. Please don't preach down about tracks The Abbey i admit has been poor this year saying that no worse than Wimbourne Rd.Today was a dust bowl but there was some good racing for me Buzz after being stuffed in Ht 14 getting through to second was a great ride.Poole won and fair play to them but as a Pirates fan don't slag Swindon as a track because last week at Poole v Belle Vue was a P... poor track will say again well done on the win for Poole today.

First time I've been back to Swindon for a few years. Enjoyed the way Swindon presented the meeting...a huge improvement on the last time I was there. It was the girlfriends first meeting ever...she loved it. Hasn't stopped asking questions since. The crowd size and close result made it...not the track or exciting racing. Have seen and heard more excitement, and seen better racing at Somerset this season. But it was still entertaining. So will be back. Only criticism....£4.40 a pint...really? Gresham
Captive audience mate. You either pay it or you don't. On this occasion yes...but at £4.40 a pint, its hardly going to attract any new fans who would like to come along with friends is it? £1.10 more than what it is at Somerset. Like you say though...you don't have to buy it.

They are not interested in the fans, just your money. That is a very sad reflection on todays country.. EnglishRoundabout
I entered the stadium today and for a minute I thought I was back in the mid 70's. The crowd was huge. Boosted by a couple of hundred Poole fans, I reckon on there being 2,800 there. The track resembled Lakeside. Smooth but mega slick. Back straight bogs were as bad as ever. Mind you I thought I saw a sign on the wall that said 'gents'. Really? Shov was there, shorts on this time! Ronnie has shed loads of weight, the scaffolding which had surrounded the refs box for the past 5 years had gone. There are new houses in the pits! The Gestapo still run the car parks, but never have I seen Blunsdon so slick. Poole in the end, showed their class when it really mattered. Kurtz, Newman and to a lesser extent Buzz impressed in the engine room. The Pole using every inch of the wide open spaces on the Abbey track. Last time a rider went as wide as him was when Zagar graced the Abbey in the Adams days. For the Robins, Doyle was disappointing. He may still be sore from his recent crashes, but he went missing when it mattered. Morris was tenacious and never gave up. Nielsen and Sedge did well and Josh mixed it well. He fell asleep when leading in one race before battling back to regain second. Overall, Poole just deserved the win. No sign of the new Blunsdon though.

BuzzCagney
We have a good bunch of lads who have done well, very well, over the last few weeks- and indeed they did so yesterday- but I think that was probably the reality check that was coming our way. More worrying for me was just how dreary the meeting was. How amateur it all seemed. I took a friend along who hadn't been for 4 or 5 years and he was shocked at it. The track was slick as, well, as slick as Poole (why so shy with the watering?) and the presentation dull. And how embarrasing to go to all the trouble of having a live band to kick them off after one song! They attracted a decent crowd then forgot all about entertaining them. No wonder speedway is in the parlous state that it is.

No wonder speedway is in the parlous state that it is. Indeed the racing and track, were left wanting. As for the presentation of the meeting...I actually thought it wasn't too bad compared with what I've seen recently. The band played more than one song...they played for at least half an hour before the meeting. It was enjoyable in a macabre type way though, as they murdered pretty much every song ;-) Like you, I took someone....they had never seen speedway before and knew nothing about it...so no preconceived ideas or knowledge of the past. I got many positive comments from her...the one negative stuck in my head though...'Why do the majority of people look so grumpy and bored?' The scoreline kept it interesting...the racing didn't...I noted 3 passes all meeting...very processional, and imo, because of the track, very little chance of overtaking. In the past, it was often just as processional, but I remember fans urging their teams rider on, when trying to make moves to catch up and pass. Yesterday...it felt like everyone knew it was almost impossible...hence the slightly dour feeling in the crowd? Who knows...but it certainly felt like that.

dump that clutch
Really... Compare the heatleaders... Poole Noddy, Buzz and Hans whilst Swindon have Jason, Rohan and Justin... Swindon have been 'punching above their weight' for a while now and did well to run the Pirates so close... looking at the bigger picture though, it was the two exclusions that cost us the match in the end. Yes, the track didn't help those who missed the gate which is disappointing, was the track soaked early doors because the wind really dried it out. JD - costly lock up but on the gas as always JG - always in the thick of things RT - thought he was coming to see us on the 4th bend when he beat Holder NM - see JD JS - getting more and more impressed with Sedgy CW - disappointingly struggled when we needed him most SN - impressive display, stepped up where CW failed to CH - looked quick all afternoon AE - expected more from him, didn't deserve the collarbone injury though KB - in the mix and enjoyed watching him BP - did he score more than Watty?? Jury out on that one HA - didn't look quick all afternoon, apart from his rollers BK - impressive KN - impressive So a blip on our run to the play-offs, normal service will be resumed, but not on Wednesday Edited May 31, 2016 by dump that clutch
Steve Shovlar
Absolutely true about passing. When Holder and Andersenmissed the start against Morris and Tungate it was all over by the second bend. A woman was screaming for them to keep going but I said to her its all over already. In fact I think Hans gave up after two laps. There was nothing. There were about three or four passes all meeting. Seen worse though this year at Leicester. Nice to see a big crowd though. Proves the sport can do well with some serious effort.
