Poole Pirates Vs Leicester Lions 18/5/16

Recommended Posts

In the best interest of speedway and More so the paying public , they should just employ the services of some BSF members to sit as a panel and declare a score , everyone knows Poole will win and the only interest must be the possibility of them getting 60 + or even a total whitewash . a pools panel type score would save time and travel for everyone involved .

Ahhh, a bit like the Pools Panel, if it's only for the home team, then call it the: POOLES PANEL!!

I'll get my coat..

Rain stopped...sun is breaking through...and it is drying out quickly. But more rain on the way about 3pm I think.

So where are you. certainly not in side the stadium im sure? So you think, we are going to get more rain, we are DEFINATELY going to get more rain.

There was no chance this meeting was going to run, if we got the rain that was forcast, and we did.

The early call was right, and saved a lot of fans riders and management a wasted trip.

Rain stopped and drying out. No more rain today looking at the weather radar. Perhaps this could have gone ahead after all. Depends on how the track had held up.

Probably the right call but with a dry rest of the day due it would have gone ahead had it been on Sky.

I agree, calling off based on a convective rain forecast is iffy, you may well get a sharp shower this afternoon, but it's getting beyond a flipping joke now...

One of the bigger reasons that speedway is bleeding away fans, with so few EL matches now and with call offs like this, fans find other, more reliable leisure activities to do...

Sorry mate but it absolutely peed down this morning and we have had rain this afternoon. We have no drying wind and the track will be sodden. but im not going to waste deisal and go down and look as i know what i will see..

Sorry to put a dampener on what you think but it was the right decision.

It's pathetic...

These advance call offs based on weather forecasts will be one of the bigger nails in speedways coffin...

It's only really started to happen over the last few years, every effort should be made to get meetings on, but it doesn't happen anymore.

Never used to happen.. So are you trying to tell me that in May, that a speedway promotion that has full access to its track, cannot deal with heavy overnight rain, with further heavy showers pre lunchtime, with a chance of further showers.. in what is aledgely the top tier of a professional sport?

We have access to the track one day a week.

I'm with you on this one.

It's no wonder the sport is shedding fans when they have no idea if a match will even get going if the weather is iffy.

Just to go on a forecast is beyond iffy IMHO. I have seen several matches that got an early call off only for the weather to improve.

The reasons of inconveniencing travelling fans and not enough time to prepare a track is extremely iffy again IMHO.

It's becoming a sport that you only bother to go to if the weather is fine.

Not a way to run the sport AFAIC.

I don't think promoters can win on this issue. Tbh the weather forecast that was given last night, most people wouldn't have thought it would be on. Heavy rain/showers from 5am to lunchtime and heavy showers in the afternoon which may be thundery or include hail!

Plus how much does it cost to fly riders over, that comes into it a lot I think.

Given that modern riders will not ride on anything wetter than a slightly damp track (except if Sky is in town) does it make financial sense for promoters to try and get a track race able? Long gone are the days when riders put a pair of overalls over their leathers and got on with things.

Just posted on the Pirates forum.

Just got home from a nice afternoon of bowls.
Out in the sun thinking wouldn't it be nice to have speedway tonight. smiley_wink.gif
Ah well! Probably have to go for a walk along the beach instead. Too nice to stay indoors.

All this could be subject to change at 7:30 if the forecast proves to be correct. smiley_happy.gif

What was or is the point of dirt reflectors, tear offs, roll off's, and Kevlars are damn uncomfortable when wet....

I have followed speedway since 1971 ish, wet meetings were part and parcel of the sport.. if we are not prepared to ride or watch speedway on wet tracks, why wasn't a roof put on the NSS?

I agree with you but I'm of the opinion that riders nowadays are slighty wimpish compared to the likes of Nygren, Fundin,Collins and more recently Loram. I'm all for rider safety but in 50 odd years I cannot remember a really serious crash caused because of a very wet track ( last few years apart). The rocket ships they ride now simply don't allow riders to use their skills so they just won't ride on wet stuff.

I remember many a meeting watching from under an umbrella which doubled as a shale stopper when the riders went past, and most of them were very entertaining and well attended.

At Swindon i believe if the meeting is called off after a certain time they have to still pay rent ? I don't know what most people think but i am not interested in wet meetings i would rather have a early decision.Different if you have started the meeting then by all means make do and i have seen some really good meetings in the wet.

Calling off meetings early, with a dodgy forecast, is usually in the interests of the paying fans as they can make other arrangements, and not get ripped off for fuel, admission and the meeting being called off before or during the early part of a meeting. Promoters damned if they do, damned if they don't. How many would have turned up, and what quality racing in iffy conditions.

More moans for the sake of it, one of speedways major probs.

Forecasting the weather is very much hit & miss as different websites have differing forecasts. On Monday, for example, rain was expected pm & it duly came then clearing, delaying the start of the meeting

(see pictures on updates http://speedwayupdat...scrollTo=294115 )

After a 30min delay the 150cc British Championship Round got underway of 7 races after which the PLKOC match started where riders & fans were not covered in wet shale but dust

(see pictures on Scunthorpe Speedway http://scunthorpescorpions.co/?p=5407 )

If riders, promotions & fans have travelled then give it a chance, if possible.

Having a great promoter, draining track & track curators can make it possible.

That was one off thought. How often is a speedway meeting in the afternoon, can afford a large delay and have three separate meetings to balance with.

You really are a tw*T with too much to say. Egg on your face without a doubt it hasn't rained since about 11 this morning and it wasnt heavy neither. The area was bone dry at 4, and I live closer to the stadium than you think Mr know all.

And the track was not under water this morning. It's just your attitude in trying to make others look a fool when you clearly are the village idiot.! Don't reply with useless excuses. I was out doing the garden at 2!

I work 1/2 mile from the stadium and can tell you it did rain after 11. Stopped about 1 and showers in the afternoon.
