Save Coventry Speedway Petition

Recommended Posts

Signed and will urge my family (including the daughter in Holland who spent her teen years attending Brandon) to do the same. I came back to speedway in 1999 watching Reading Racers. Hate to see the Bees go the same way. There were promises to rehouse Reading and look what happened. The more pressure the better as it will confirm there is a fan base for the sport in the area and even if Brandon does go then the effort for a new site will be increased. I hope supporters from all speedway teams will sign as the loss of such an historic and well supported club can only have a poor effect on the sport in general.

Signed, but one of the drawbacks I can see***

Wasn't there a news story on Midlands Today about six weeks ago that the Coventry and North Warks area were the worst performing district in the country for achieving the number of house builds set out by the government, and were set to be fined unless the quota was met.

Just hoping this doesn't have any detrimental effect about the way Rugby Council decides the outcome of saving the stadium.

Good luck, and hope for a happy ending in keeping Brandon alive.

Coventry, really? Seemed to be loads of houses going up at one point. It made me chuckle that all the land that one house Peugeot/Citroen (huge amounts) was being built on. So they were taking people jobs and then expecting them to buy new homes - does anyone see the glaring issue there? Sounds like having decimated industry and replaced it with housing they now want to remove the places of entertainment too and replace them with housing. Soon the people of Coventry will have more homes than they can shake a stick at but nowhere to work and nowhere to go for entertainment.

And for Coventry read just about any town, city or village you like. The Llanwern and Orb steelworks in Newport have seen huge numbers of homes built on them in recent years. Same thing, two massive sites, loads of homes but huge job losses.

TBF Chancer Horton keeps making vague noises about there being a chance of staying at Brandon for a bit longer hoping for the best.

Horton should keep quiet unless he has firm knowledge of it as a fact , this petition has started a bandwagon rolling and rumours will only lead to the brakes being put on that , the battle to save the place permananently has begun ,with some very good people leading it , now is not the time to be deflected from that path by a few rumours , of maybe an extra year or so , the fight against greedy sandhu must continue unabated

I believe Binley Woods has been earmarked for 100 new houses in the local plan, luckily Brandon Stadium is of course in Brandon. Coventry is falling behind partly due to it being one of the the biggest growing Citys outside London. All of a sudden with a huge project near the train station (upto 10,000 jobs) and Jaguar opening 3 factories which will create 3,000 jobs people want move here! Edited by woz01

Theres plenty of room for 100 houses where the new stadium was supposed to go , let them crack on building there and leave Brandon alone , No problem finding a developer who will build Coventry's quota , he has offices in a speedway stadium just down the road and is keen to help out with any new development . Tata can supply the 3,000 workers for its new factories from the 50,000 it's made redundant in the steel industry

Havent really kept up to date with the happenings at Cov,but at some stage last year a poster revealed on a different thread, that a pdf file was available showing the development of Stage 1 for the housing project at Brandon.

Because everything seems to have quite on that proposal, does that mean that the council threw out those plans,or are they still pending.

Still pending which seems rather strange as house building in Warwickshire is going faster than fast Freddie.

As you are aware have been banging the drum some 6 weeks advocating this petitions there should be active petitions to be signed by local residents in city, towns and villages. Also we should be aware the Bees are known as Coventry Bees, with this in mind there should also be activities in Coventry. Sorry I feel this positive action is a bit belated but now there is activity it should be 100 percent, approaches to local. Haines to provide banners etc to. Bring publicity to what's going on at Brandon and fears for the future. We should have had this action in force for the Sky coverage of Wolverhampton match, we should be looking forward towards next televised match (if there is one)! We need to get this publicity going with speed.

SAVE COVENTRY SPEEDWAY

Brandon Stadium: Notice of Meeting 26 May 2016

We feel it is time to hold another public meeting on the proposed redevelopment of Brandon Stadium and we hope to attract a heathy turnout from the speedway and stock car fraternity as well as local residents.

There is lot to catch up on such as the representations we made to the Rugby Local Plan, the potential new stadium proposals, arrangements for the 2017 season, the application made to designate the existing stadium as an asset of community value (ACV).

A draft agenda is set out below and if anyone has suggestions to add or amend this please let us know. We hope to see as many of you as possible there but please remember this meeting like our first meeting last July isn't a protest meeting - it is a constructive forum for keeping the fans in touch with what is planned for the future at Brandon and for speedway and stock car racing.

Meeting:
Save Brandon Stadium 7.30 to 10pm Thursday 26 May 2016

Location:
Scarman House Lecture Theatre
Scarman House Conference Centre
University of Warwick
CV4 7SH and Conference Park: CV4 7AL

This postcode will direct you to Gibbet Hill Road, the main road through the University. When you reach the campus, you’ll find signposts for Radcliffe, Scarman and Conference Park (Signed Central Campus).

- See more at: http://www.warwickconferences.com/about-us/how-to-find-us…

Probably mentioned elsewhere but with the leave Europe Coventry some we sway could well be around for a good few years yet. Housing development will be risky to take on a project at Brandon for the next few years. ??

I suspect they'll be keen to push it through before exit takes place, which is going to be at least two years away. There's always a huge demand for housing and huge rewards. It's access to capital that may be the problem or the developers may decide to hold on for a recovery and higher prices. The question is whether there would be a recovery.

Like so much since the vote, it's new territory and nobody can really be sure about anything. It would be good to hope that it DOES mean a Brandon reprieve, but of course there must equally be doubts about any replacement. We could end up with Brandon going but it not being possible to fund a replacement stadium. Housing's got a far more certain return than a sports stadium.

Coventry are on sky Monday. is there anything planned to highlight this during the meeting ?

The fans need to speak to Nigel Pearson before the meeting, he is usually fairly amenable providing he is not told by the powers that be not to mention the issue.

Invite Sandhu , then stick a microphone in his face and publicly shame him . point out that it's his greed that is taking away peoples enjoyment and 80 odd years of history , Avtar Sandhu , Bigger liar than Tony Blair and more slippery as well
