Belle Vue Colts V Mildenhall 6 May 2016

Wow, nothing gets past your two journalist mates. I'm not sure how they can look at each other knowingly when they know nothing.

Woodward & Bernstein they are not.

Perhaps they should stick to hacking the phones of micro celebrities and inventing stories about Princess Diana's death - not surprised Gustix feels so comfortable in their company.

I've just watched video on BSPA site. What a brilliant race track it seems to be. Pretty similar to some best tracks on the continent (kinda reminds me Bydgoszcz)

Racing will be superb and I expect very good progress in Europe for riders like Cook after they gain more experience racing on it on a daily basis.

Yes it looks like the sort of top grade fixture that befits a so-called National Speedway Stadium. :icon_smile_clown:

Certainly I would imagine that it was a much better fixture to open with for any genuine speedway fan rather than some old Banger meeting JH! :P

Has everyone else's bullsh1t detector just exploded too?

Nah,i'm sure he was having a chin wag with his mates from The Penny Illustrated Paper and Smithwick's Evening Chronicle, reminiscing about the day they saw W.G Grace make 134 for Gentlemen of the South at the Oval and then laughed out loud when John told them all about the rules of this motorsickle racing and so on.....

As banger racing is car sport and not motorcycle racing it's hard to see a parallel? Maybe just in attendance figures is the key as to which the public at large want top view? And, as an expert like you know, Bryn there are many different formulas, contact and non-contact, in car racing that takes place at those stadiums which house both forms of racing. Yes, indeed the fixture was better to open the National Speedway Stadium than banger racing would be - their home is on the dirt track in the Belle Vue Greyhound Stadium next door.

It's amazing the contacts you make working on the journalistic juggernaut that is the South London Press (circulation 10,000).

The circulation was much better in 1948 though.

Bryn, remember when his column in the Speedway Mail were mostly about how Grand Prix Midget cars should form part of speedway meetings? When I later got involved in stock cars there was quite a bit about Grand Prix Midgets in the mags. I think you can guess who wrote those.....

It's all so very sad. Belle Vue have opened to great acclaim, people are thrilled at the prospects of so many wonderful meetings to come, except for one desperately sad and irrelevant individual clinging pathetically to the past. For once something wonderful has happened to the sport and all a once-respected former editor of the Speedway Star can do is make senile, petty comments trying to ridicule it. He's become a troll and it's desperately sad to see.

Perhaps we can all watch that video, let this thread come to its natural end and move on to the next match, leaving one person to shout into the wind?
