Belle Vue Colts V Mildenhall 6 May 2016

Recommended Posts

I saw Dan Bewley ride for the Colts at Cradley and knew he was pretty good. He really only looked like being beaten once, when Connor Mountain trapped on him in the first run of heat 12. Otherwise he was fast from the starts and very fast out in front.

The rest of the Colts were a mixed bag but there was enough there to suggest that they will be entertaining enough for the rest of the season.

For the Fen Tigers, Mountain and Jon Armstrong were as consistent as ever, with Armstrong (who I am reliably informed has ridden at all three Belle Vue tracks) pulling off a brilliant ride in heat 13.

The star of the show, though, was the stadium because its magnificent. What's even better is the size, shape and banking of the track lead me to be believe that Armstrong's superb ride will be the first of many excellent races there and it will be a most fitting place to hold meetings of the highest calibre.

Can't wait to see the Aces on it.

Thanks - just managed to get to the site and see the result.

My broadband speed at the best of times is 1.5mb/s, there is a fault at the moent and best I can get is .8 mb/s, thats point eight

Sometimes i dont get through to a site, the fault leaves me with no broadband then it kicks back in.

Living in a countrified area has its pluses but times like this is very frustrating

A track record of 63 seconds on a Hyde Road "Mark 2" by a so-called junior shows the lad was flying. If this is what the NL can provide the people of Manchester, the sensible ones who watch speedway that is are in for a treat this year.

63 secs by a NL rider probably means about 60 for elite , on a 374 Meter track thats mighty fast

It's 347 meters mate

A very good meeting with some good racing, the pick for me being jon armstrong putting in a tremendous ride to pass the colts pair for the win, rob shuttleworth suffered some bad luck and rode far better than his total suggests, his e/f after a good manouvre from the back in his first ride being very harsh. Dan Bewley was superb, this lad is one of those natural born talents, the best debut by a kid ive seen since the days of collins and morton, massive way to go to match up to those two but dan appears to have everything to go very far. A mention for the tigers for taking the meeting at short notice, they have a couple of good lads so the colts had to work for the win, this meeting far exceeded what i was expecting for NL, looking forward to the next one. So onto the aces next week, swindon wont have a problem with coming here, this track lends itself to superb racing and i can see away riders looking forward to coming to manchester now instead of dreading it, a big chunk of home advantage gone but who cares about that if the racing is top class?

The width of the bends is one of the track's key attributes....

Riders are starting to slide as soon as they cross the finishing line so the straights are not too long in comparison to the track's overall size....

Given the room available into the entry to the bends, I can see many riders, when behind, taking the opportunity to stay longer in a straight line than the guy in front and blasting around the boards with more momentum and speed...

Jon Armstrong last night showed how it can be done on a slick track, more dirt (as will be created I am sure) and the racing could be superb..

So we finally have the track sorted, from all accounts it is excellent, and this is your response?

C u next time.

I was not being disrespectful to National League racing in general terms. The matter of the NSS finally opening came up in a conversation I was having with two National newspaper sports journalists - who knew nothing about the place and were rather surprised at what it constitutes!!!

However, they thought it rather strange that what is recognised in BRITISH speedway as its prime venue should start with such a low key type of match "at junior level" rather than a major event with international stars. I did tell them that a event of this calibre had been arranged for mid-March but subsequent happenings in regard to the track caused the meeting to be abandoned before a race had been, I also told them that there had been problems with the track meaning that subsequent meetings had to be called off.

They looked knowingly at each other - then started debating how Leicester City would do in the 2016-17 season.

And, as the old saying goes waihekeaces1: 'See You Next Tuesday'!
