Guest
Would it be possible for a truce to be called on these exchanges that have nothing to do with the reunion? Jon Stevens has put a lot of effort into this event which is also to remember Tommy Jansson. It would be great if the thread just concentrated on publicising the reunion or sharing memories of The Dons or Tommy. As with so many of us Wimbledon was such a great part of my growing up and I would be there like a shot if a miracle happened and it started a again. I agree fully with what you say Sir Sidney. When I made the opening post I had no idea that such a tirade would be unleashed, Just to refresh minds, I repeat the Post here and for my part I do not intend to debate further to this thread unless I have a matter that is crucial in regard to the reunion. From former Wimbledon rider Jon Stevens ::: :::::::::: I know everyone has been waiting for an announcement....... I can now reveal details of THE Wimbledon Speedway reunion and memorial marking the 40th year of Tommy Jansson passing. This will be held in the heart of Merton on the bank of the river Wandle and in a location that dates back to 1752. More exciting details to be revealed.........in the coming days. It will be like none other before! Book your ticket to avoid disappointment. sommelier
not a problem John, I can't say I've ever heard of you as a reporter, and I can't recall seeing anything by you even though I get Vintage Speedway Magazine and Classic Speedway. I also don't recall you being a photographer at the track even though I was first taken to Wimbledon in 1967 aged 6 weeks, and was a regular until 1991, home and away through my teens included. but that doesn't bother me, what bothers me is your constant sniping at speedway and comparisons to stock cars. my background in speedway doesn't go as far as writing about it I'm afraid, but I always got on well with management involved at Wimbledon, I used to go to the speedway office during my lunch breaks from work just for a chat with Maido. also, both my parents and grandparents worked at the stadium, and when Ivan Mauger came over in 1957 there was a family that pretty much looked after him and Raye while they were here the first time, but you'll need to read Ivan's autobiography and John Chaplin's book on Ivan to find out who that was. It was Ivan that got me riding, on the Hyde Road track during a New Zealand practice for a Commonwealth Final there, so no, I don't have any background whatsoever Take a look at John Somerville site, John's photos are on there
van wolfswinkel
I followed The Dons after New Cross closed in '63, the only team souf or the river, and we used to go to West Am and Ackney as well. Remember Nygren, Hedge, Luckhurst, Cowland etc., from around '67. Split loyalties when moving to Swindon when The Dons visited.
Guest
There's more details about the Wimbledon Reunion on the Facebook Wimbledon Speedway. Again, you may not be able to view if not at present a member on Facebook. https://www.facebook.com/groups/2426614704/ I suppose this is to be expected as it involves me! My first visit to Wimbledon for speedway in 1948 did not involve the Dons. The match was - Thursday, 10th June, 1948: Wimbledon Stadium, London = Wembley Lions 45 Belle Vue Aces 51 (Anniversary Cup). waiheke1
I don't Post much on this Forum any more. Reading some of the comments on this Thread merely reinforces my belief that I am right not to do so. There is no need for it....................................................... I wonder who will be first in with a personal attack - I await with interest. I probably won't reply tthough............................... Totally agree. Just stick Gustix on ignore and you'll find the forum a much better place.
RobMcCaffery
John has brought this on himself with his unpleasant attacks and ridicule on subjects such as the National Speedway Stadium, National League speedway and those valiant people who are running 'nomadic' teams as part of their campaigns to restore speedway to their towns. His constant reference to stock car racing and speedway in the 1940s were tolerable but his insults and childish behaviour have exhausted patience. I tried to sympathise and help him with advice, if only out of respect for his past achievements some time back but it was rejected out of hand. He clearly has no love or respect for present-day speedway and you have to question his motivation for being on this forum. Yes, I have him firmly on ignore but sadly people quote his messages, thus defeating that. I am dismayed that an attempt to voice my frustration with John's behaviour with some gentle satire has been grossly misrepresented by some and what indeed should have been a thread about a speedway reunion so diverted. Perhaps if certain people with Wimbledon connections had realised that the criticism was of the messenger NOT the message we might have avoided all of this? Ray Stadia
Is he? The mis-spelling of the word 'Gustrix', umm. Is this a deliberate ploy to divert suspicion from possibly a new account? Well 'Windy' is not me, even though people who know me, might claim to the contrary!
speedwaysliders
Jon Stevens advises that: "Mark 'Buzz' Burrows will be attending the reunion." Fantastic entertaining rider in the latter years at Wimbledon.Infact too entertaining one night, when he crashed, and his wife steamed into the open pits that people can se from the terraces and seemed to be saying enough is enough, and proceeded to pack his stuff away in the middle of the meeting.!!!!! When she tried to take his bike back to his van,Mark held onto it and a verbal discussion took place with a bit of armwaving thrown in.Ovcourse the fans on the terraces saw this and kinda joined in with all the antics.Eventually his wife calmed down enough and returned to watching on the terraces where she always watched, and it was all taken in good humour.Hope he tells the story better then me,it was so funny and made the evening for everyone.!!!!!! Think Mark went on to win another heat so maybe it was all good all round!!!!!

Without a doubt. I'm trying to recall the other "new poster" recently who did the same mis spelling of usernames while posting in support of the forum idiots. Windy
Am sorry, but some of you people need to De- anorak and get a life, the year is 2016. Brave keyboard warriors, that like to have a go at a man, that has forgotten more than most of you know on the topic of Motor sport and, is in the later stage of life . This man started a thread titled Wimbledon Reunion with an advertisement supplied by J Stevens, for the remembrance of the GREAT Tommy Jansson and some of you brought that into the Gutter Thank You A Wimbledon Fan Or to some of you idiots David Icke
