Coventry V Wolves Monday 9th May

Recommended Posts

Or was it that the riders behind didn't use the track to it's full potential?

Track didnt allow a pass. Holder was throwing his bike at the leader in his second ride and couldnt get anything out of the track. Same for Lawson in another. As I said, not one single pass.

Not the club most have deserted the sport.

Dont agree at all. Wolves was their biggest crowd in years last Monday. Pooles crowds are also good.

Only certain clubs are struggling with fans refusing to go and doing their level best on here to bring their club down. Step forward several Coventry fans on here.

He isn't an EL draft rider.

EL draft riders now get EL averages and can move into the 1-5, although only one of them can move up at any one time.

Howarth has moved up to 3, Masters at reserve. Poole - Ellis moved to 3, Kurtz to reserve, Swindon - Wright moved up, Tungate reserve, Leicester - Auty up, Klindt down.

Averages change every 2 weeks to avoid the draft riders struggling in the main body.

Thank you.

Clear now -- my problem was caused by Sky labelling him as a Draft Reserve when they listed the team photos at the start of the show.

I know Poole get their best crowds during the holiday season but the crowd against the Bees and few weeks ago wasn't that great by Wimborne Road standards.

Well maybe if Horton put a better team out, more people would have gone. More people will go if they feel a meeting is going to be close.

Correct, this current team can pull more in with displays and a few more results like last night. The crowds will be back no problem then

His mistake was retaining Garrity as a top 5 rider. Should have released him there and then.

Top two couldn't have been any better on paper.

Bizarre that in an era where winning has never meant less in Speedway, people seem hell bent on it!

In the late 80s Coventry went a couple of seasons without losing at home and suddenly TK got injured and things changed. Don't remember swathes of folks suddenly deciding to stay at home every week though.

No worries.

SKY just seem to keep the FTR at 6 or 7 regardless.

Don't know how difficult it is to put EDR at number 3 for Howarth and just leave Masters with his average in reserve.

You would think it was simple enough!

A swindon fan on the Facebook page pointed out that the 2 mins rule has been changed for this season to avoid accidents, e.g. riders going over the centre green and endangering track staff. So if you're under power on the track you've satisfied the 2 mins rule. Now the ref could've seen Masters bike problems before the rerun as being not under power for a time, but that was inconclusive, so gave the benefit of the doubt. So if the interpretation of the new rule is correct by the Swindon fan then the ref got it spot on and we all need to reread the rule book

The rulebook says....

15.2.5 Riders must at the expiry of this time allowance, be on the track, under power, proceeding without stopping towards the Starting Gate.

When the 2 minutes expired Masters was looking down at his bike 40 foot from the tapes.

I think the rule giving the team a point for getting within 6 points of a win should be scrapped - I believe a few results this season would have been different if there was a little less "well we are happy with a point" attitude, it should be all or nothing! to put the spice back into the latter heats of a meeting.

you could also say the same about a team that is 8-9 points behind saying guys go out there and stay safe we cant win anything now.. and watch them sit back and not ride a risky race for nothing.

How about the following

Home win by more than 6 points, as now Home team 3 points

Away team finishing within 4 - 6 points of the home team, Home team 2 points Away team 1 point

Away team finishing within 3 - 1 points of the home team, Home team 1 point Away team 2 points

Draw Home team 0 points Away team 2 points

Away win 1 - 6 points Home team 0 points Away team 3 points

Away win 6+ points Home team 0 points Away team 4 points

That should keep the teams fighting till the last race.

How about making it simple

3 points for a win

1 point for a draw

0 points if you lose

Why does British Speedway have to be so complicated

It's not that difficult unless you have a problem counting to six.

Home - Win 3, Draw 1, Loss 0

Away - Loss over 6 0

Loss 6 and under 1

Draw 2

Win 6 and under 3

Win over 6 4

It's scarcely cricket's Duckworth-Lewis method!

Just stayed up to watch the repeat and in heat 12 Sam Masters gets his bike running 2 minutes and 25 seconds AFTER the two minute warning!

The Bspa have screwed the 2 minute time allowance rule under the usual health and safety concerns. To prevent any rider who is struggling to make the time allowance the ability to short cut across the centre green a rider has now only to be on track within the 2 minute limit and not as before be at the tapes and ready to race. Technically you could have as long as you like before you are ready to race, this is only serving to lengthen meetings and not punishing those who are not ready to race after 2 minutes as Sam Masters last night.

The current scoring system is one of the best ideas the BSPA have had in recent years. Its one of few weaknesses of the Polish and Swedish leagues Edited by New Science

Why does British Speedway have to be so complicated

Because as stated earlier a team sometimes does not fight to the last race, just gives up as there are no points to ride for. If counting to 6 is difficult you can use your fingers.

Points money not all riders can afford not score to the best of their ability but I do think that the present method works

No, rule doesn't say that at all. It says, "15.2.5 Riders must at the expiry of this time allowance, be on the track, under power, proceeding without stopping towards the Starting Gate." he was NOT under power and he was not proceeding towards the starting gate.
