Eligible Guests?

Recommended Posts

Just had a look at the green sheets and noticed the number of riders that are not eligible to guest in the NL this year. Can it be right or am i misreading them somewhere?

As it stands

NEG PLR Not Eligible to Guest as NL only Guest in PL, as rider declared in PL 1-7

Matt Williamson
Lee Payne
Zach Wajtknecht
Tom Perry
Darryl Ritchings
Liam Carr
Max Clegg
Danny Ayres
Nathan Greaves
Josh Bailey
Ben Morley
Danny Phillips
NEG Not Eligible to Guest as NL only Guest in PL as has achieved 4.00 or above in PL
Adam Ellis
Kyle Hughes
James Cockle
Luke Bowen
Dave Mason
Luke Clifton
Jon Armstrong
Ben Wilson
Tony Atkin
If this is the case then guest options are very limited this year......

I think you'll find that the NEG refers to their eligibility to guest in the PL for a 3.00 rider rather than the NL

The first group as they are members of the PL 'fast track' scheme, the 2nd group as they have averaged over 4.00 in PL at some point in their career

Got it (i think) "Guest in PL" is the key piece of the wording. For once it appears that the rules are there (just badly written).

Yes, the list does look very long this season - enhanced by the introduction of 'NL eligible' PL No. 7's this season, like Darryl Ritchings.

As you say, the wording is clumsy and I woul'vde thought it would read better as: 'Not eligible to Guest in PL as a "NL only Guest", as.....'

But then I thought the 'NEG PLR' indicated the riders declared as 3.00 No. 7's in the PL and not the ones classified as 'NEG'. as Statman says, so what do I know.

The main problem for me is when a guest is a stronger rider than the one he is replacing ie Bowen allowed in to this league on a ridiculously low average .He will be getting guest booking s everywhere until he obtains his real average,, At least Adam Ellis who will also be to good for this league has come in on his true average from last year ,even though he is an even better rider now,,The gap between the top riders and the novices is now huge in this league

This has always been the case where guests are concerned though, Bowen's not the first and won't be the last rider to have a converted average lower than his ability. It works both ways though, a few years ago Kent took Boxall on an 11 odd figure that he was never going to reach.

Bowens put 0.33 on his average in 3 meetings

NT doesn't count on averages though. (or at least they didn't)

Pretty sure he'll finish with a 9+ NL average, despite that poor score at Mildenhall.
