alkadera
He would be the last person most sensible parents would want teaching there kids. He is no role model I will certainly be trying to get my son into one of his training schools and I consider myself a sensible parent... If any of Tai's dedication, ambition, success, professionalism, determination etc are passed on to my son then it would be a worthwhile exercise. Why is he not a role model in Speedway terms? Because he doesn't ride in our mess of an elite league? (that you don't seem to particularly like either!), because he isn't riding in a British semi-Final? Or because he has some tattoos?

stevebrum
He would be the last person most sensible parents would want teaching there kids. He is no role model Of course, all sensible parents wouldn't want the world's best in a chosen field advising their children on the sport. Edited April 25, 2016 by stevebrum
ColinMills
blimey,as stated earlier, i have dissed Tai over the british final, but any potential rider would love to learn from the best. Of course any world champion of any sport would make the most (financially) its stupid to think otherwise

ColinMills
i have booked darts players for exhibitions in the past, the likes of scott Mitchell £700 (didn't book him), same as kevin painter and wolfie..you try booking phil taylor!....any champion can and should demand as much as he can get, its a short term profession

You won't mind when your son has his face covered in tattoos and his ears are like dumbo or if he gets good enough to stick two fingers up to the Ben fund,British speedway the British final when he follows tai path then your be proud. Tai is not a role model to young riders, jason crump Leigh Adams hans Nielsen to name a few were role models.

stevebrum
Thank god for proper role models like Tai giving something back. Makes my proud to be British. Looks like the future is bright with Tai still on board helping the future generation of riders. Proud day for any child and parent that will be.
ColinMills
There I was thinking this is a forum to express opinions but you only want a I love tai thread. Where was tai for the Ben Fund ? Had it been the darcy fund he would of been there. you will see I have had a poke at Tai, but I do believe you have to be fair, when he does something good. its not my thing, but most youngsters tend to have tattoos these days, and probably out-weigh the ones who don't. I'm not sure any sportsman has to be a role model, you live life for yourself and your family not others. I would say the people taking a pop at Tai, would still be first in line for a selfie, if he was near by. I believe he should be at the british final, but that's a separate issue. I know when I was younger, I would of loved an insight from the speedway champion of the day, and those that do "could" one day, say they had tips from the first 7 time world champion!

Tai is not a role model to young riders, jason crump Leigh Adams hans Nielsen to name a few were role models. So your first retort is basically that you don't like the way he looks. And you do my son a disservice. He has the intelligence to think things through for himself and not just follow others. The chance to learn from a twice world champion doesn't come round very often. How many others don't ride in the Ben fund? Did you slag off Scott nicholls for not riding for GB? And whatever my son achieves I'll be proud of him. Just admit you don't like tai and it wouldn't matter what he did you still wouldn't like him.
arnieg
Can't we just accept that nobody's perfect. His talent is undeniable. Personally I'm pleased that he is doing this and impressed by his charity work. I'm not bothered by his equivocal attitude to his nationality, but I don't like his tattoos and am disappointed by his absence from the British Championship. Like most of us he's fallible - can people just accept he is neither a saint or the devil incarnate and admire his talent.
Fourentee
The official statement says 'he wants to help a new generation of young British riders realise their dream'. Lets hope their dream isn't to appear in the British Final then!! :-) ;-) Because someone who has won it three times and has four other podium finishes wouldn't know a great deal about that, would they?

Tai is not a role model to young riders, jason crump Leigh Adams hans Nielsen to name a few were role models. What an absolutely narrow minded opinion. So you're saying that just because some youngsters grab the fantastic chance to have some training with the world champion they will want to emulate Tai's love of tats and ear wear? Completely and utterly ridiculous! Tai is the current (2 time) World Champion so he is a self made role model no matter what you think. Oh and for the love of God give up on the 'he didn't ride in the Ben Fund Bonanza', you sound like a 6 year old crying because they lost their balloon! NEWSFLASH, a whole host of other riders didn't ride too!! He would be the last person most sensible parents would want teaching there kids. He is no role model Se my post above!!!

But then by your remark the Ben fund doesn't need the extra money it would of got had the world champion rode.

Jog on Probably for the first time ever, I agree with Robert72 Tai is not a role model, Jason Crump, Leigh Adams, Hans Nielsen, Peter Collins are.. I wouldn't want my son (I don't have any kids by the way) coming home with inkings permanently added to his face, or golf holes in his ears!!!

I wouldn't want my son (I don't have any kids by the way) coming home with inkings permanently added to his face, or golf holes in his ears!!! For his speedway ability of course he is a good role model!! Ihave children and it would disappoint me if they did to their bodys what Tai has done to his , but as a parent you should be teaching your kids what you want them to know and tell them that what he has done to his body isnt great, plus im sure my own children have minds of their own and wouldnt actually copy the way he looks but would be fascinated to be shown and trained by Tai
Mr Bump
I was under the impression this forum was to discuss all things speedway, not to comment on an individual's choice of body art. Blimey

Plenty of missing riders would have increased the turn out so it's rather ridiculous to pin it just on Tai. Oh and Tai has done more charity work during the past few years than any other rider, gosh what an absolutely bloody awful role model he is!
