Wolves V Lakeside 18 April 2016

If only "they" would have left it as a common market, then perhaps the vote would not be necessary.

Its the way it has developed into a political arena, thats what I am kicking against, and the vote is not about the political arena only, it encompasses the common market as well.

So to me .... getting rid of the political arena unfortunately means getting rid of the common market as well.

No real surprises there. Well done to Wolves and Sam Masters in particular. Seems like Kylmo has a new lease of life. Wolves once again showing strength in depth.

Doing my best to find some positives for Lakeside I suppose we have to say that at least Rob Mear scored a few so hopefully his confidence won't be totally destroyed and he will have something to build on, Swiderski surprisingly top scored and Bridger at least has enough speed in the Jawa to win a race. Shame he couldn't repeat it but at least the capability is there.

A shocker for AJ who has been in good form until now.

Four days to draw a line under this one and focus on Swindon Friday.

P.S. Can any Wolves fans tell us briefly what was said by Peter Karlsson when interviewed.

Masters was really good. Looking very promising early doors.

PK was asked about racing in the UK this year and said he wouldnt ever say no. But he only really wants to ride at Wolves.

Lakeside v Swindon Friday 22nd April according to the fixture list, unless I 'm going blind as well as daft.

Think you're right Mr Addio. Looks as if Game On has got his information wrong. Not sure why he didn't think Lakeside v Swindon was scheduled for four days time on Friday. Maybe he thought it was at Swindon on Thurday, but Belle Vue are due there that day.

I might come down on Friday to watch this and say hello, as I am planning on visiting Arlington for their Cup match against the Fen Tigers, before going back to see Scorps v Devils at the EWR on Sunday. Easier to do having relatives in Billericay and Hastings. Will depend on the weather forecast.

Poor show by AJ's standards tonight. Not sure what he is usually like around Monmore. Good to see Lewis Kerr picking up a heat win.

In fairness his score flatters him. Only beat Clegg who besides 1 ride was well off the pace.

Think we have a very differently animal at Wolves this year.

Dominant from the off, the TR as always gives the losing team some momentum however heat 12 could have seen the the dominant Hammers come to the for but it proved a very brief and false fightback, Wolves smashed the Hammers out of sight in the last 3 even with a GP rider present in 2 of them.

The track was fast and grippy all night with times still below 56 after heat 13.

It certainly wasn't the pass fest we have become used too over the years but a dominant win was lapped up by a big crowd tonight.

Freddie even came over to the start line after heat 15 gesturing for the crowd to scream louder. He clearly loves being a Wolf and said on the victory parade that he feels there is something special about this Wolves side this year.

Interesting to hear PK being interviewed saying he is over here doing 'business', guess it's only a matter of time before he is announced somewhere.

3 wins out of 3 and looking good.

WOLVES

FRED - besides a heat 11 blip when he first got caught in traffic and then misjudged a tight 2nd bend cut back and fell in 3rd it was vintage Fred. No doubt the usual will moan he is still on the decline. 4.5/5

SAM - electric starts, superb track awareness. What a home debut. Heat leader berth beckons 5/5 MOTM

JACOB - 2 excellent wins and a good scrap with Swiderski in heat 10 before the Pole took him dangerously close to the 2nd bend fence on the last lap. 3/5

MIKKEL - had a couple of excellent races but needs more time at Monmore before he gets more dominant. Decent home debut. 3/5

JOONAS - had one blip when got pushed out of the opening bend action in heat 7 otherwise. Beat AJ 2-0. 4/5

MAX - gave it a real go in heat 5 challenging Swiderski hard for 2 Laps and then got out of shape allowing Mear a way thru. Otherwise out of his depth in the other 2 heats. 1/5

HOWARTH - started like a steam train however his big get off in heat 9 seemed to stall him a little. Not sure why he fell in heat 12 but seemed to struggle to hold on? Up to that fall looked extremely handy as expected at reserve. 3/5

HAMMERS

JONSSON- hugely disappointing night for the GP star. Gating was dreadful. Never see him do much at the Green. 1.5/5

SWIDERSKI - good value and effort.Hammers best rider 3.5/5

NILSSON - largely invisible and did nothing of any real note. 2/5

KENNETT - quick and worth more points at least battled hard. 2.5/5

BRIDGER - quick when out in front although looked only once for AJ and way too late on the TR.fair effort. 2.5/5

MEAR - only scored against Clegg and gained a lucky point in heat 5. 1/5

KERR - a good gate in heat 9 but lost it. Otherwise did okay in the reserves heats. 2.5/5

PK could be joining coventry as temporary replacement for woryna

Did he not say he was only interested in riding for Wolves and not that keen on doing that from what I have read ? ,sadly I think retirement beckons as this will be the first time in 20 odd yrs he has not ridden in this country .

Didn't hear all the interview as I was talking but he apparently said he wouldn't ride for anyone else but said he was over here "doing business". His business IS racing!

Go figure!

Always thought Masters was a dark horse waiting to happen.

Think the Oz GP gave us a bit of a clue.

Always said I expected him to be a heat leader this season, and it's looking whoever moves up to heat leader we will have strong second strings too.

Good start to the season by Wolves.

I think the first meetings against Belle Vue being postponed have done them a big favor too, particularly the home one.

It is very likely, with the way the Aces have started the season and their prowess at Monmore that they would have come and turned Wolves over.. that would have immediately put Wolves on a downer and the thoughts of "here we go again" would have been prevalent.

Now however, tails are up, confidence is high and the team believes it can achieve things. It puts them in a much better place to take on the tougher challenges that lie ahead in the form of teams such as Poole and Belle Vue.

Agreed. They looked ominous fixtures from the off, particularly with so many new riders to bed in at Monmore (I'm not losing sight of the fact that Belle Vue have a new track to get used to, but had all gone to plan their riders would have had the Peter Craven meeting under their belts and presumably some practice too before Wolves rode there).

Wolves had what looked a pretty decent team in 2012, spearheaded by Woffinden and Lindgren, and lost home and away to Poole in the first two matches and four times to them in all, three of them at home, in the first dozen completed fixtures. They never hit their stride and finished one off the bottom.

Really pleased with the performance of Masters last night. I don't expect that every week, so will just take it as a bonus at the moment. Only slight concern so far is Clegg, who appears to be a little out of his depth. He was the one I was worried about when the team was announced. One of the curiosities from last night was that apart from Clegg every rider won a heat. Conversely apart from Masters, everyone had a last place ! Also for Monmore I felt the racing wasn't quite up to normal standard in terms of passing.

Masters has started the season in good form. I would wait to make any comment on Wolves once they have ridden against Poole and Belle Vue Aces at Monmore those two teams are stronger than Hammers who are notoriously poor travellers. But they look pretty solid throughout with Masters, Lindgren, JK, Thorsell, Bech and Howarth at reserve. Certainly wont be winning the wooden spoon this season.

We will find out soon enough, Poole are next up at Monmore and they should have a definite advantage in the reserve department.
