Tsunami
Cant understand any kid wanting a Villa kit at moment, should be adults for a quid. Fun and games against The Blues next year, Villa are a Premiership side shouldn't be playing in Div 2. Swindon Town and Swindon Wildcats make an effort with the young 'uns, Swindon Roobins very little effort. Every year outside the pub in Cardiff I see the Diamonds fans group having their pic taken. Some clubs do make the effort, some don't. Yes we are there every year. Supplemented by riders who have ridden for us, and friends of the Club. It's always in the Proggie the next meeting. We also have junior riders who rode for me in the 00's Gems teams to renew friendships and just somewhere to meet up again.
full-throttle
I actually think the club or supporters club has to go to the kids, not the other way around. We get the Aston Villa man every week at our kids school and talks football. The result is no kids go to the football, but they all want the kit, coats and bags. You can buy some tickets to select Aston villa matches through the school, every ticket sold the school gets a cut. For every adult ticket sold this way, kids go for a quid. Kids want everything on a game console these days, speedway has a long way to go to catch up. Excuse my ignorance, but what would Villa know about football

B2PROMODESIGN
here's a radical idea for speedway tracks//promoters, let the supporters club of your team run the track shop.
Star Lady
here's a radical idea for speedway tracks//promoters, let the supporters club of your team run the track shop. Been there, done that It's not quite that easy. First you have to find a supplier who will either trust you with their stock or find a heck of a lot of money to stock the shop. Then you have to staff it, find someone to do stock control, do the accounts etc. Get to meetings mega early and stay late to clear up, count money etc. It can be done with a good team of helpers but it is one heck of a commitment and without some brilliant guys and gals to help would be impossible. It was good fun but ruddy hard work. Before you ask, no I wouldn't do it again
Trees
Mates of mine (live in town and been fans for donkeys years) run the track shop at Worky for the love of it, not for the supporters club, last time I went up there it was all housed in a lorry container. Because their meetings are on Saturdays they always get loads in their bar, including riders and put on a big raffle in there (guess this is supporters club run and the takings go to a different rider each week I believe), weekends make all the difference. All clubs do something different, as a fan it would be great to be able to at least have an organised bus\minibus to away meetings, not so difficult to organise now with text\twitter etc if the meeting is in doubt. bigcatdiary
Peterborough supporters club is thriving And doing really well having elected practically a new committee in December 2015. Like Newcastle we take it seriously and have the full backing and support of the management. Quizzes, Race Nghts, Guest Nights and Dart Nights are now very well attended and along with the 50/50 raffle on race days raise very very respectable funds in support of Peterborough Speedway. We hold events at least every month and sometimes more and We also have a thriving junior cub section. Our Pre Season and End of Season Parties have been sell outs recently which is very encouraging.
TonyMac
In the next issue (No.73) of Backtrack, we have an in-depth review of the year 1973. At the start of the season in which Reading won their first British League championship, a reported 1,500 'Racers' fans turned up for their pre-season supporters' club dance at the Top Rank club in the town. Most promoters would be delighted to see that many attend a meeting today. The thing about supporters' clubs in days-gone-by is that many of the people who ran them were well known to fellow fans. Think of Cradley Heath fans and I immediately think of Margaret Hardiman. At Hackney, we had little Snowie Beattie. And also in the next Backtrack, Reading promoter Reg Fearman gives credit to Reading SSC chairman Mick Smith for his role in making the opening of Smallmead in 1975 such a big success. I'd be very interested to hear from others who recall individual supporters club chairmen, secretaries or just 'characters' who were part of the furniture at the tracks they more or less lived for....

screm
supporters clubs should be a vital part of any sporting club, there main function should be the "bridge" between the owners, the riders and the supporters. A good and healthy speedway supporters club should be raising around £30-£40k a season, its not rocket science and is easy to organise. The problem is that some members on a supporters club need to realise what they are trying to achieve and not have their own interests at stake, get that part right and you are on your way! You are right supporters clubs should be a vital part of any club, sometimes that doesn't seem to be the case a certain clubs.
