Matt Ford - No Sympathy

Recommended Posts

Matt Ford has made Poole the dominant force in British speedway, same as Man U dominated the Premier, even though they have been underhand/cheated at times, they come up with a winning formula very year. Most people are jealous of the top team, but it's his living and passion, and it's up to the other promoters to aspire to their success. I bloody loved it when my local club Swindon beat them in the Grand Final, and their visits to The Abbey double the crowds, which would probably apply to most tracks. Everyone loves to beat the top team.

Shows how much league speedway in this country has gone downhill though when over 2000 is considered a big crowd...what a joke. Some non-league football clubs wouldn't be happy with that.

The 8-club meet 4 times a year Elite format is boring, so are 65-25 one-sided drubbings, and teams and crowds get weaker. With blank racedays and ever-increasing match cancellations, the lack of a new stadium at Swindon, the farce at Belle Vue, when they should have been celebrating the new stadium, increasing number of guests and r/r, and the amateur way the sport is run. None of this which will encourage the missing thousands to return to this great sport. But speedway always survives in one form or another. Would prefer an 18-team league as they had from 1965-80s when British speedway was massive, second to football for attendances, and about 10 different teams won the British League. Need to get more local youngsters interested in riding speedway. At present would rather watch the GP, or a decent football, rugby, cricket match or horse race, than this so called Elite League.

His winning formula..includes his underhand tactics ..and it accounts for some of 'his' success

Another pathetic post.

The moment you use the words 'so called Elite League' may as well ignore anything else you say.

It IS the Elite League in this country as it is the highest standard.

The 'so called' league is the Premier League.

bit of an over reaction

The elite league is the highest league yes but it isnt exactly elite riders anymore which is what was trying to be said.

Its like the premiership. Say all the world stars left our big clubs, it would still be the top league in english football just not as good as it once was.

Nothing wrong with the second tier of speedway, great racing , no politics, and a much closer league with more teams

It was never called the Elite Riders League. Elite League is the correct term for it according to the dictionary. I don't understand nd why people are so dismissive of the term. For regular fans it doesn't matter what it's called but like every other sport or business it needs packaging and if that means calling it the Elite League to get Sky on board or newbies through the turnstiles so be it. I don't see what the problem is

Nobody is knocking the second tier of Speedwáy, but if people are going to get pedantic on terminology it isn't the Premier League any more than Premier Inns are premier inns.

Well said.

So many people get hung up on names.

If the PL is named correctly then so is the EL.

It's just a title for what we know are first and second divisions.

Not really he said so called Elite league is matters not who rides in it as long as it's the top division and that is the common mistake people make time and time again . Premier league in football do not have the premier players in the world ice hockey do have the worlds elite in the uk you could on and on ...all it does is tell you that it's the top division

It's been said a million times but it got to be the most stupid thing in speedway when people have a problem with word elite that makes perfect sense but never have a problem with the word premier that makes no sense at all

It's not an opinion, something which you sadly are totally unable to comprehend.

The term Elite League is 100% correct, unless you wish to create your own version of the English language.

It isn't 'so-called'. It simply IS.

The Premier League isn't named correctly, not that it bothers me.

Someone must have a word with British Ice Hockey calling their top division Elite League, that has no world class players playing in it. At least in the EL some of the top riders ride in it.

We do, and reguardless of what some might say, there is still a gap between the PL and the EL..

Using the Royal 'We' again. There may be a gap between the PL and the EL, but it is nowhere near the vacant gap between your ears.

Trouble with you is that you never seem capable of any form of two sided debate as you always seem to insist you are correct in everything you say? What actually is so Elite about the 'Elite League in your opinion?...oh hang on there is no such thing as opinions to you just down the middle no bollocks truth ...hope you are not this anal in the real world

'bollocks' and 'anal' - interesting words to use.

Maybe just consider where BWitcher lives these days and why he has ended up there? Not exactly a hotbed of speedway.

Gee thanks Hagon.

EDIT: to say - think of a game which used to be played by people squeezing into a confined space and a 1970's bottle of wine in an odd shaped bottle that people used to put candles in once they'd drunk it and has become popular again recently. Imagine, it's easy if you try.

A quick look at the dictionary should answer that one for you. It's not difficult.
