Coventry V Wolves 1/4/2016

Recommended Posts

Can I just remind fellow Wolfies of the win at Lakeside early last season. Was looking good until others won there and it was realised they were not very good. :P

I don't think anyone is going to get carried away, after one fixture. Just time to enjoy the result, it is a local derby after all !

well done wolves good start to the season lets hope we can build on it when we take on swindon home and away.

Good result for Wolves but I think you might find Swindon tougher opposition, but am looking forward to the two meetings.

Ended up an even bigger thrashing than I thought it looked like being. KK seemed to be doing his best Hans Andersen impersonation tonight after a classy win in heat 1, will be a horrible season if that keeps up.

Only plus from a Bees point of view was Garrity looking better with a big first and last programmed ride. Deserved his heat 15. Bates too had a storming heat 12 to beat Howarth by a country mile, hope he can start doing that more consistently as the season goes on.

Pretty dismal from the management not to tell fans the deal with Knuckey replacing Sarj, we're well used to be kept out of the loop now though. No criticism of Knuckey who is clearly very committed to doing the best he can for Coventry, but it's a sad, sorry state of the draft system when you have to look that far down the list to replace a tier 1 reserve.

Didn't even get to see any classic Bomber passes tonight which made it feel all very deflating really. Having said that, it shows just HOW good Wolves were tonight, very impressed with Thorssell again and Wolves had excellent top end strength in the always good value at Brandon, Freddie Lindgren and Kylmakorpi who showed all of his Longtrack style and speed to keep Bomber at bay several times. I really don't want to be too harsh on Danny King but one meeting aside, he really seems to be struggling racing teams' top 5 riders, what's gone wrong from the solid, dependable rider he was for Birmingham?

Don't be too scared.

Already got us down as a top 4 team this year.

I can't be wrong every year can I.

Have your lot won away yet out of curiosity?

Last ever season over by April the 1st.

Crowd utterly dismal and will only drop lower, particularly as the next home meeting is on a Monday.

As a minimum the management need to try some remedial work on the dreadful side they've assembled. King and Woryna will have to be dropped to salvage anything.

Shame for the Pole but we haven't got the time to wait for him and, as we don't exist as of October, what's the point in developing him?

Felt like the place was just dead tonight. Sad, tired and waiting to be demolished. Very depressing.

Sadly you might be right this year  Ask me that last question again about 10.30 pm on Monday

Don't worry, I'm sure plenty of Wolves fans will be there in June when we take our 2nd win at Brandon. :t:

I've gotta be right sometimes!

I'm more interested to see how we do against your lot (top 4 rivals) and also the Pirates and Aces.

That will give us a clearer idea.

Next week could be interesting tho.

Yeah, it's hilarious. Maybe you can stand and cheer next year when the main stand mysteriously burns down whilst the place is laying idle and they're trying to get planning permission.

By the way, there were about 12 Wolves fans there tonight.

I always take joy at winning against Coventry.

To suggest I'd be happy to see the place close is beyond low.

Tut tut.

As a speedway fan since 1967, I fervently hope that isn't the case

I'm sure the Brandon 12 had bloody good time. :D

In many years of watching Wolves home and occasionally away that is one of the best performances away from Monmore I've witnessed. Nice to see some fresh blood in the side. Kylmakorpi outstanding, Howarth great debut, Thorsell looking faster and Lindgren unstoppable from no.4 position. Add in promising first appearances for Bech and Masters and it all looked good. Feels different to the promising start last year because the faces are so different from the same old same old. Agree that we won't be the only team to win at Coventry based on that showing though. Certainly a promising start to the year for Wolves - the 'dark horse' tag that some have attached appears well deserved. Nice touch from some of the team to come and applaud the away fans too. Roll on Monday - where we'll probably come crashing to earth and get turned over by Swindon !!!!

Let's face it mate, we've had it. Had a good run, but everything dies eventually.

Could be lucky to see the season out. Crowd must have been less than 100 for the NL match on Monday?

Beyond beggars belief how Kenni Larsen can continue to be ignored, he was practically begging for a Coventry team spot over the winter.

Haven't you got anything better to do ? I suspect neither Bees or Wolves fans require any comment from you.

Not what we wanted but kind of what we were expecting to be fair. We have well and truly got the team building so wrong, I think the main issue is that at this stage of the season we are seeing last years riders who struggled getting off to a flyer. Others teams just look stronger and we are much weaker than last season.

Have good reserves and its game over, we just can't compete with Howarth, Newman, Ellis to name a few. Garrity has done the right thing for him but not for us unfortunately, we have been found out and it's a long way back. It will be interesting to see next winter what they do with the fast track reserves who blossom this year, it's there to bring them on but there is such a gap in ability it's scary. How on earth did Coventry not find a more suitable replacement tonight for Sarj? We pay good money and to put out a reserve that is already injured is poor, there was nobody on the draft list who was available ???

KK did struggle but that was due to bike issues, he was hard in heat 1 in the first bend and also put a fight in heat 13 so it's unfair to already point the finger. Most riders had 1 good ride and that says where we are, we have to carry the young pole at the moment and he is worth sticking with as he looks fast and steady on a bike, King tried so hard but for little reward. If we had Garrity and Sarj/Bares at reserve it wouldn't be so bad and would balance the team somewhat but it's not going to happen so we just have to support what we have. Poole and Belle Vue are way ahead of the rest and Wolves are due an ok season after a few shockers.

Not the way we wanted to have our last season at Brandon but some good races tonight, still early days but even by our standards this is going to take some turnaround to make the top 4.
