Speedway's Equivalent To War & Peace!§

That is exactly what Jon Cook said in SS but BCD conveniently ignored that point when he made his predictable and tedious anti Lakeside dig.

FWIW I don't think Lakeside will finish top, and I doubt if anyone else does. Jon Cook almost certainly in his heart of hearts knows that Lakeside will need a fair wind to finish up top but far better a promoter to at least show a bit of confidence outwardly than be seen to be throwing in the towel from day one. Fair play to Mick Horton and Colin Pratt who also backed their teams to finish top against the odds, but of course BCD doesn't mention them. His constant childish sniping towards Cook is says more about him than it says about Cook.

If Lakeside finish bottom again someone has to be there. That's the way sport works

The difference being Coventry and Swindon have at least a chance of finishing in the top 3, fair wind - you will need a miracle and probably more than one.

Glad to hear folks got their bumper copy of the mag on schedule.

Despite contacting SS Circulation Dept, postal subscribers in Edinburgh continue to wait longer than everyone else and it appears any day after Thursdays is the norm (i.e. Friday - Tuesday)

No bloody good producing a great magazine if you cannot get it out to your customers on time

BTW local newsagents seem to have no problems with Thursday deliveries.

SORRY but we don't run Royal Mail. All subscribers' copies leave Surbiton at the same time. Ask your local mail delivery office for an explanation.

The season preview is always a bumper and superb read.

And the predictions are interesting, as usual. Chris Louis: 1. Ipswich 11. Scunthorpe. I assume he predicted those, before Scorpions turned over Witches at Foxhall Heath last Thursday :D

All the best

Rob

PS Cyclone, you can't blame the Speedway Star for the shortcomings of Royal Mail. You'll be blaming them next for the late arrival of Monarchs' No 7.

There's nothing quite like a self satisfied, preening 'All The Best Rob' :D . Along with 'June', Scunthorpe's embarrassing baggage. Rob has been so self satisfied this week, after one result, he must have got through a whole load of tissues in Watford. The draw at the EWR in the return fixture, must have been a real cum down for him.

As others have said, what would you expect CL to say? Ipswich 11th and Scunthorpe 1st? And aren't the predictions based on Premier League standings, not League Cup results? Very early days. Lets see what pans out when the League competition starts. Just hope for a safe season for all Riders, no clubs to close and a Product for the fans to enjoy. If only all tracks were like the EWR.

Get off your high horse, the predictions are nothing but a bit of fun. Of course I didn't expect Chris Louis to say anything else.

As for 'embarrassing', well if you try to insult other forum members with every single post, simply because they choose to be positive towards a club rather than join in with any mass negativity, then you're simply going to end up embarrassing yourself.

Now, getting back onto subject, have spent most of the morning with my head buried in the Speedway Star. This edition is useful throughout the whole season - it's simply superb.

All the very best

Rob xxxx

Have already done so locally & would add most other 1st class franked mail from London Area is delivered next day.

Perhaps you should follow this up at your handover point.

yes just turn to pages 22/23 2 pages dedicated to sponsors of poole, maybe it would be in speedway stars interests that poole continue to be successful also

or was it just a favour from the poole supporting editor

another thing why did the wolves promoter decline to comment in there section,

david hemsley has some valid comments on the huge differences in strength betwwen elite teams this year,

Why on earth should they ?

You cant expect them to post it out early for people up north surely ?

My postmark says 23rd March, i received it 24th. If yours arrives and says the same postmark, you need to ask questions of your delivery provider, not the senders.

Cracking issue tho. Well worth it when it comes.

Interesting regarding posting irregularities. I recently sent Ian Cartwright (Halifax and England) a DVD. I sent it special delivery to an address in Yorkshire and couldn't trace its whereabouts for over a week. Eventually I discovered that it had been sent to an address in Scotland! It begs the question why was it directed there by the local (Leeds) sorting office as it carried a Yorkshire post code? Why did the delivery postman deliver it and why was it received and accepted by someone in Scotland when it was clearly not for them? After going thru all the usual complaints procedure the Post Office eventually sent me a very patronising letter and a book of first class stamps as compensation...and the DVD is out there somewhere in limbo land!

Mind boggles really!

The non franked bulk mail received from commercial concerns, (banks, insurance companies, etc.) including Speedway Star, are not date stamped, instead has a 1st or 2nd class id, together with Postage Paid GB code (e.g. for Speedway Star, it's Kingston-U-T 584) on the envelope.

When stamped/franked mail is sent, the date, time, & sending location do appear on the envelope, so it appears your copy is being processed by a different channel.

If you had fully read my post, I never suggested earlier posting, but questioned why other commercial & personal 1st Class mail received from the London Area normally arrives the next day after posting, but not the Star.

I would add that this problem affects several subscribers in the Edinburgh area who stay in different postal zones.

If the postal code and street name fits, why would the delivery man hesitate? It was given to him by the machine that sorts the mail and makes no mistakes...

In my case neither the post code or street name fitted...or even the same Country! I posted the parcel from York to be delivered to an address in Kilburn (20 miles away) and it ended up in... Scotland!

The parcel passed thru' four loops. The Sorting Office in Leeds. The relevant Sorting Office in Scotland. The Delivery Person and finally the recipient...and not one questioned, apparently, the correct destination!

Shads is a postie he will be able to explain!!

My brother was a Postman once and he couldn't believe my example when I explained it to him. He said that he would have noticed the incorrect parcel and would have returned it to his Sorting Office...all questions I put to the Post Office representative (whoever he/she was?) who appeared non too concerned about the wrong destination...'Oh it happens but generally we get it right!'

Lordy, too much time on one's hands springs to mind here.

What do you honestly think goes on ?

Anyway, while you fret over the rest of the country getting supposed preferential treatment from the star, hopefully Shads will ease your fears very soon if he catches this thread.

Btw, you said you spoke to their circulation dept before about it ? I'm guessing they told you the same as Phil and you didn't believe them either ?

Anyway, long shift, off to bed

This sport has never been even, Poole unless struck down by injuries will walk the league this year.

agree poole will win the league again, but ALL promoters build their own squads, Poole just do it better. And if anybody

else want to strengthen mid season to challenge poole, they can openly do so...instead of teams throwing the towel in, do

something about it..

I don't think anyone cares. I think, from reading the star, that everyone sees Poole winning the league as a foregone conclusion. I think this suits the other Elite League teams as they don't have to make the effort. As such, it renders the competition a waste of time and the result pointless.
