King's Lynn V Lakeside 24/03/16

Recommended Posts

I am relatively new to speedway - I only really started following it closely half way through last season (and now love it - I'm annoyed at having ignored it for so long!).

Some things in the sport do baffle me - and having these two meetings on the same day is one of those things. I know teams have set race nights etc so there's not all that much flexibility - but there's only 28 league fixtures a season - do they need to squeeze two on the same day? And with Good Friday traffic it could be a tight turnaround getting everyone there! Could tonight's postponed game not just have been played later in the summer?

Anyway, this is my first post and I don't want to moan because there's generally enough of that on forums already - and all in all I'm excited for the season ahead.

Plus if it turns out to be two cracking meetings, then what a bumper day it will be...

Just got back and what a farce that was.

I set of from Anglesey yesterday about 2pm having check Kings Lynn's website, all good.

I was cutting it a bit fine but my mate was working down there and he was calling at the box office to get the tickets. He'd also sorted a hotel as after a long trip I didn't want another back to Manchester.

Imagine my horror when I arrived to find it off! I caught up with my mate - tickets in hand- and he said it was cancelled around the time I started my journey. I don't check my phone whilst driving as it's dangerous and safety to me is paramount. There had been the usual tittle tattle on social media but nothing official before I left.

I can't begin to tell you how angry I'm what with fuel and hotel costs. I don't think I'll see that but I'll wait for the announcement on ticket refunds so I can at least recoup that.

What with my visit to Somerset then planned trips to Peterborough and Plymouth being cancelled and the Belle Vue fiasco I'm fed up with speedway and we're still in March.

Well we now know what we've known every season... Kings Lynn are awful at Lakeside and Lakeside are awful at Kings Lynn!

Think Huckenbeck is going to be a real hit for the stars.

What was up with Schlein today? Had such a good start in open meetings.

And SHAME on you doubters of the MADS ;)

Swiderski, Nilsson and Bridger poor scores again away from home. I know its the first away meeting of the season but our middle order need to improve on these performances otherwise we have no chance of the playoffs.

Would it have made the scores closer if Lakeside had stuck with Bjarne Pedersen? May have offered more tonight, but as you say, early days yet.

These Public/Bank Holiday home and away fixtures have been a long tradition in speedway but are less common this year. They have been well attended over the years and a firm favourite with the fans. I am not sure that Lakeside vs Kings Lynn would be a natural choice for this but the weather caused it. A double meeting between Birmingham and Wolverhampton was a natural for this type of fixture when they were both in the EL as historically would a West Ham vs Hackney clash.

I think part of the reason for going away from these meetings is down to the fact that less fans go to away meetings and far less can afford the two meetings in one day.

Personally I am not a fan of them because it is very tricky to prepare a great track surface for the earlier meeting but I would not want to exclude the fans that love these meetings based on my personal opinion.

Hopefully you will be a long term speedway fan and I am sure you will get to know the idiosyncrasies concerning speedway but never forget that what really matters goes on between the starting gate and the chequered flag and as long as you love that is what really matters.

You were right again Trees - it must be good to be an optimist! :t:

All the team contributed to a fine win

Well pleased with the win, hope Rory has a better time of it Thursday, needs to keep his confidence up. Kai looks good, Rob strong n fast. Mads back home 😆 Lewis is showing he can get back to where he was before Swindon and higher and Wilko, guess his collarbone must've been giving him jip but he'll give his all. Not forgetting our number one, had a great race at Lakeside with the very fast Kim Nilsson (bloody predictive text lol), think it finished 3-2 to Niels against AJ 😆 I'm gonna be so gutted when he goes 😕 Edited by Trees
