Somerset Vs Rye House 25/03/16 League Cup

Best of luck to Leigh Lanham tonight, hope he can show Gary May a finger or two.

Oooh, i doubt Lanham would have been showing or losing any fingers tonight !!

Jake Allens going to be good isn't he....that's annoying

He most certainly is. Spoke to him before and he said he was very sore but was going to give it a go and boy did he. Bar a slight mistake on the back straight of heat one (when Kennett passed him) he would have had an official debut paid maximum!

Debbie and Gazza look to have done well there again!

You mean for Paul Starke?

Not the strongest Rebels side I've seen, but a nine point loss at Somerset is encouraging.

Not a bad result at all, Robson appears to be a rejuvenated rider after two meetings, with Kennet that makes a decent spearhead,,be interesting to see the overall score after the second match on Monday,,could be a pointer to our chances of a successful season,,let's hope the weather doesn't spoil things...

I must say that scoreline does flatter the Rockets. I actually double checked my programme adding up as i thought they had never reached 40 points tonight. Seems as though they may have had a half time rollocking as they had more interest after heat 9 when the tack slickened off but were all pretty poor in the first half of the meeting. A couple of EF's for Rohan and BWD plus Josh's fall certainly gifted the Rockets points.

I know it is early days for Rye but Karger looked way off the pace and only beat Zach, who looked down on power for the rest of the night after his heat 2 problem on the last corner.

Rebels should have been close on 60 points really but they weren't so we will see what happens on Monday weather permitting.

I know it was Good Friday but definitely a good sized crowd tonight at the OTA, may have been bolstered by some of the 450 remaining Plymouth fans i suppose?

Decent crowd on what became a bitterly cold evening. Robbo and Kennett kept the Rebels honest throughout, but a series of wretched luck ( the Rebels having falls and engine failures whilst well placed on at least 3 occasions) has put the Rockets right back into this.

I thought Jake Allen showed terrific promise and looks a smooth classy rider. Both Somerset reserves showed potential and will only get better with time.

An incredible heat 15 saw almost every rider change places at least once. Kenneth's last gasp dive up the inside of Tungate on the final bend of lap 4 has ensured this tie will go down to the wire.

How come Somerset are allowed a guest?

Extract from the Regs

18.10 FACILITIES

a1) Absent #1: - G or RR

a2) Absent D-U or EDR (if riding for the “other” team) - G or RR

B) 1 Absent rider (2 – 5): - RR

c) More than 1 Absent rider (1 - 5) 1 x RR facility and G for all others

d) Absent #6 or #7: - G

e) “No Facility”: - NL G*

NL G*: a rider eligible for a NL Team who has never achieved an actual PL MA of 4.00 or

Paul Starke was riding for Leicester, because this was deemed to be a rearranged fixture because Rye House stepped in to fill the void left by Plymouth's withdrawal. therefore the Rebels were allowed to use either a guest or RR.............Hope that helps

It'd be unlike Somerset Speedway to make a mistake regarding the rules

A positive result for the Rockets when you judge it just on the scoreline. Dig deeper and it's a different story IMO.

Robbo's early season form has been very good, can we expect him to be banging in double figures every meeting home and away though? If he can that should be a bonus, not a necessity for us to keep meetings competitive. Second string scoring wasn't great, five from Lanham is about right probably but Kasper and Heeps should be doing better.

We all know that Ben Morley has struggled on some away tracks in the past, but he won heat two and did his job last night. Where the match really could have been won, or at least some points, for us was the other reserve berth. I don't want to sound like I'm knocking Karger, I have no problem with him but as with Maassen we've made a lazy signing and it has already cost us match points. A decent, established rider in that spot could have had one of Kasper, Heeps and Morley's rides and scored a few points that would have seen us walk away with something from the match.

Ben91 I think Ben Morley's form last night was affected by the knock he took when Jake Allen rode into him at the start of heat eight. He was better before that incident.

Peter Karger was a lot better than Danny Maassen was at OTA last year. If last night was Peter's first visit to OTA then he did good.

Three points away from home for Morley as our number seven is a good return I think, not knocking him by any means.

It'll be a long season if we're accepting two points a night from Karger on tracks he's not been to before because that's pretty much every track he'll go to. I'd also put the OTA down as one of the easier ones for newcomers to British speedway to get to grips with.

Rye House only got about 40 due to Kennett and Robson. Heeps and Karger didn't trouble the rebels and Nielsen only had one good race. Lanham got a decent gate in heat 14 but nothing apart from that.

For the Rebels the main problem was a very grippy bend 4 which caught almost the whole team out. Allen, Grajczonek, Wright all looked superb. Tungate looks like against decent heat leaders he may struggle imo. Davies was what I expected from him. The two reserves looked like they can improve and have two separate riding styles which is good for a reserve partnership.

Did Danny Maassen get lapped then last year? Karger was awful and to be honest Danes usually have a good record of taking to our track with ease. I sense if you think his two points were good last night then you didn't go?

One of those points was gifted. Slightly worrying when I hear Karger didn't have any, or very little league experience in Denmark before we signed him

Arnieg posted this on the Redcar thread when they signed Bukhave, thought it was quite interesting with regard to Karger.

Here are 13 Danes I would sign before Bukhave (with their Danish League One average) all made at least one SuperLigan appearance so would come in on 7.00.

  • Jesper Sogaard 9.83 (age 27 his DSL average is higher than Thomas Jorgensen and Jonas B Andersen)

  • Johannes Kikkenborg 9.79 (age 25 his DSL average is higher than Thomas Jorgensen and Jonas B Andersen)

  • Jonas Jeppesen 8.99 (only 18, first season on 500cc my number one choice by a mile)

  • Kenni Nissen 8.63

  • Jonas Jensen 8.13

  • Jason Jorgensen 8.05 (only 17, first season on 500cc)

  • Jesper Scharff 7.91

  • Frederik Jakobsen 7.78

  • Sam Jensen 7.66

  • Mikkel B Andersen 7.62 (brother of Jonas)

  • Andreas Lyager Hansen 7.57 (rode 4 matches for Scunny in 2015 averaging 4.00)

Jason Bukhave 7.33

Plus these two riders who averaged less than Bukhave but are younger and in my view have more potential:

  • Martin Steen Hansen 7.05

  • Patrick Hansen 6.98

Currently better than all of these is Rasmus Jensen (PL average 5.92), ranking behind all of these is Rye House signing Peter Karger.
