GWC
The film from 1955 - 'there is another sun' is based around a funfair wall of death and Speedway. It was recently shown on Sky channel 343 and will be repeated sometime, The speedway action is from Walthamstow and only features towards the end of the film. spinkox
edited - I just googled wall of death and Guy Martin show with the largest wall of death ever seen is live on easter monday March 28th 7:15pm on Channel4 The "wall" will be 120' in diameter - Guy Martin is going for a world record. When is someone going to arrange for Guy Martin on a speedway bike?? - that would be good for the sport. Or have they already??
*JJ
When is someone going to arrange for Guy Martin on a speedway bike?? - that would be good for the sport. Or have they already?? I saw Guy Martin try flat track at Rye House once; I think that it was for some invitation motorcycle racing affair. He wasn't very good, but with a little practice he could probably do it. Though after making a serious attempt at killing himself road racing, he has given up racing!
Vince
Guy has ridden a flat track meeting at King's Lynn each of the past two years. First year he won the restricted class, last year just missed the pro final following a heat race fall if I remember rightly. Won the chopper class at the unique dirt quake event held the following day both years. Has got a sponsorship deal from the owners of Rye this year so guessing we will see him more often. As far as I have read he has elected to take part in a 24hour mountain bike race rather than the tt this year but will continue to ride motorcycles Edited March 23, 2016 by Vince

Sotonian
I think they still use the old Indian engine which sounds like a bag of hammers. But still better than a modern speedway bike.

Triple.H.
Eat the Peach A film about two Irish lads who blow their redundancy money on building a wall of death. Haven't seen it in years but as Mrs Brown would say it's a great feckin fillum
speedibee
Only connection that comes to my mind is when the funfair was open at Belle Vue Hyde Road track, after the speedway meeting go into the funfair free and there was a wall of death show. Â Guy Martin, motor cycle road racer, has a TV series at the moment and I saw only last week a trailer of his programs and wall of death ride was one of them. It was a hugh wall he was going to ride, much bigger in diameter then I remember BVs to be. Â edited - I just googled wall of death and Guy Martin show with the largest wall of death ever seen is live on easter monday March 28th 7:15pm on Channel4 The "wall" will be 120' in diameter - Guy Martin is going for a world record. another Guy Martin TV program with 2 minutes of substance , padded out with 58 minutes of martins inane scripted drivel and over egging by the annoying narrator , Ill watch the interesteng bit on catchup during the Corrie Adverts When is someone going to arrange for Guy Martin on a speedway bike?? - that would be good for the sport. Or have they already?? theres no method of filming . capable of recording the length of program that would be made if Martin tried something really death defying . I can just hearthe narrator now , if guy doesn't manage to turn left at the right time like thousands of others have done for the last 80 years , he could fly off and hit the airbags resulting in serious injury or worse , guy has to let the clutch out extremely carfully or the bike could rear up and throw him off resulting in seriuos injury or worse , guy will have to wear a special metal shoe to help stabilisie the bike in the turns . or he may slide off and sustain serious injury or worse

I would rather watch corrie , I definitley won't watch this , I have seen wall of death done on a bicycle and 5 minutes of that narrator trying to make out it's death defying and i would likely chuck something through my telly set . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4stCyHqAu4 Edited March 25, 2016 by speedibee

Publicity like that where Speedway was seen as extremely dangerous would be the best coverage it's had on terrestrial TV in many years. Surely even if it makes Speedway fans laugh but appealed to people outside the sport it could only be a good thing.  Doesn't get much more death defying than the TT at the speeds Guy Martin does! longlivefrankie
Guy Martin is a motorcycle legend and to say not death defying you only need to see the crash at the Ulster GP http://youtu.be/jxdm0_urUjw  To see he has

A ORLOV
I am glad he got the world record, but could not stand the bl##y commentator, what a load of dramatic waffle and crap he came out with, and the prog was dragged out too long. OveFundinFan
I watched it last night, and agree it was far too long - over two hours, for what could easily have been 30 minutes and just as "exciting". It was a fine achievement on the wall of death, what with those "g" forces. Hats off to him for that.
