Am I imagining this, or is their a connection?? All I know is that Ronnie Moore used to take part in a Wall of Death attraction (I think that his father owned such an attraction?) Guy Martin, motor cycle road racer, has a TV series at the moment and I saw only last week a trailer of his programs and wall of death ride was one of them. It was a hugh wall he was going to ride, much bigger in diameter then I remember BVs to be. edited - I just googled wall of death and Guy Martin show with the largest wall of death ever seen is live on easter monday March 28th 7:15pm on Channel4 The "wall" will be 120' in diameter - Guy Martin is going for a world record. barncooseboy Posted March 22, 2016 Report Share Posted March 22, 2016 the wall first hit uk fairgounds in 1929 and was an immediate success, so much so that traditional fairground ride operators complained about the money it sucked out of the fairground spend The Indian Scout of the middle to late 1920s became the trick bike to use, because it had large footboards, control cables were routed inside the handlebars, the seat was pretty much level with the fuel tank which allows plenty of movement around the bike for tricks and stunts and indeed even today the Indian is still the bike to use, a little push switch on the handlebars causes the engine to pop and bang, adding to the drama. from the very start speedway riders have often doubled up with a bit of wall riding, although these days wall riders only do wall riding there are currently 3 travelling wall operators, Ken Fox and his family who operate 2, the Messham family who hhave been involved since at least the 40s, and the Demon drome operated by a Cornish family from Blackwater who bought Allan FORDS Motordrome wall when he had to retire due to poor health. lots more details available on various websites. a conventional wall needs a speed of 35 to 40 mph, but I hear from my Friend Gerry de ROYE (the worlds oldest wall rider at 84) that Guys wall needs a speed of at least 60 to get onto the wall from the banking track incidentally the wall of LES MOORE was eaten by termites 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

barncooseboy Posted March 22, 2016 Report Share Posted March 22, 2016 yes they have, the one that affected me most was a lovely American lady who had a crash on a wall in Germany, had operation after operation on her back and eventually died as a result of the pain killers she was forced to take, there have been a few more immediate deaths plus of course Yvonne Stagg whose boyfriend Gunther died in mysterious circumstances been quite a few lucky escapes such as the front of show rollers seizing and launching the bike into the crowd the forces on the body tend to result in varicose veins and heart problems in later life 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
