Leicester V Sheffield Ch 19/03 1pm

Recommended Posts

To be fair to Belle Vue they were up against it with the weather, it was only last Friday the 11th we had heavy snow here. I am only 5 miles from the track.

I know Colin has worked very hard to try and get it on.

It one of those things we (track men) all have different ways of doing things.

I never stop learning in what you can and can't do with shale. I know 100% you can't lay wet shale and rolling it only makes it worse.

The base has to be firm and dry. Thats why I spent all day drying it out and I took 20 ton of muddy shale off. Then the next day laid the new shale.

Even then I was drying that out as it was a bit damp.

Glyn

And to be fair to you Glyn, you flagged up the potential issue with the track at the new Belle Vue stadium on the Leicester 2016 Thread back on 05 March when you said - 'went by Manchesters new track they have so much to do in 12 days and the weather is giving them little chance. We had snow here in Manchester all day now its raining. Had no shale on two turns Just mud everywhere.'

And on a different note, here is a great image of Nicolai Klindt's (over) celebratory wheelie after Heat 1 yesterday:

So once again an abysmal EL team gives a decent enough PL a thrashing but you can guarantee that PL fans will be claiming the gaps between the two leagues isn't that big soon!

Disagree with this totally. Somerset held Swindon to 2 points with 7 races and bar Grajczonek and Doyle were on the same level as us before the crash. Leicester is a gaters track and you have a team of gaters (without being offensive)

Blimey!! The track alterations have made a difference, don't judge it until two teams of equal ability, and commitment have ridden each other on it in a meaningful meeting, that actually has something at stake on it.....!! No disrespect to Sheffield, or Leicester for that matter, it was a start of season cobweb blowing off affair, nothing more, nothing less...

Were you there? There was a fair bit of passing. I actually don't think the lions boys gated that well, it was about even in terms of which team got to the first bend.. Wasn't just lions passing the Tigers either, howarth pulled off a brilliant move to get round ulamek (on the newly laid 3&4)

Are you calling Chris Harris a gater then?

They had Grajczonek, Worrall, Doyle and Sedgmen for R/R so hardly weakens them. Infact probably stronger on the night.

As I said I didn't mean any offence by what I said tbh I have just always regarded Leicester as a gaters track. Just my opinion. I didn't mean to come off as putting leicester down if any of you thought.

Probably not your best example, BR, as the Swindon Rep side that rode at the Oak Tree was no more than a PL (Sedgmen, Grajczonek, Worrall) / NL side (Nielsen & Ritchings) plus Doyle. And because of all the doubling up / EDR stuff, two of Swindon's riders (Tungate & Wright) were riding for the Rebels Select on the night.

I remember the old Inter League KOC that used to be held in the 70's, with the 2nd tier teams riding at home in the 1st Round, and the run that Workington had in '76 beating both Ipswich & Kings Lynn and NL Stars of the time like John Jackson, Joe Owen, Lou Sansom, Steve Lawson, Laurie Etheridge & Steve Weatherley scoring maximums, or nearly, against BL teams. At least then, teams in the two leagues had a distinct set of riders and it was a proper competition. Wouldn't work unfortunately these days.

Worrall, Nielsen and Grajczonek all only just missed out on the Elite League last season. Plus were key members of the Belle Vue side. Ritchings is fair enough as I don't believe he is strong enough for even the PL. Wright is only reserve for them and Sedgmen i think can do a job in the EL.

Anyway each to their own opinion. I do wish the Lions good luck, as it is good to see the underdogs do well (again without being offensive)
