Peter Craven/grand Opening

So why did they keep it a secret?

Hang on a minute, the 'whole list of names that's cropped up, who WERE aware' was that long and influential that 5000+ fans turned up, a selection of the great and good from the speedway world turned up, members of Parliament turned up and even the bleedin lord mayor of Manchester turned up!!

There have been some crazy barmpot claims on here including that the management blamed the riders and the riders knew the meeting couldn't go ahead but still went on parade but this 'whole list of names' one is a corker.

To much JD old boy, lol!

can the club actually settle on an official statemement? todays press release, the contractors "appear" to be the ones to blame.

on the night, the weeks "winter weather" was the problem. As Hughie green once said "its make yer mind up folks"!!

How can he be disapointed???? Are you serious? He had been looking forward to this since last November. And it's not because of certain riders we have at Poole either. He was looking forward to seeing riders who wont be in the uk this year, ie Woffinden, Pedersen etc. He is 15 ffs. He didn't even understand Speedway until this year from watching YouTube clips so don't give me sh*t about him when he'll probably go back to rally x. You're damn right I'm peeved. Don't underestimate a 15 year old. He has lost respect for the riders. Try explaining all this crap to him as to why they didn't ride!

Hold on, so he didnt understand speedway at 10 ? Hmm...

Yet he threw himself into it from November and knew that this was his only chance to see riders who dont ride in the EL ?

And of course, he didn't go to Poole in those 5 years because he was seeing run of the mill, bog standard, EL riders ... ?

I think the moral of the story is perhaps dont throw a sob story about your son if you havent thought it through.

Me thinks you've got it in the neck because you've dragged him up north and not got the brownie points for doing so.

Of course he would of ...it was quite clear that calling the meeting off days before would have cost him face and money ....anyone knew that there was problem with the track Havy knew it riders twitter feeds would full of it etc etc Dave Rowland has already confirmed they were told Wednesday not to carry on with it ... Gordon then choose to take a gamble hoping that the riders would ride on it and hope it would turn out ok and fudge some kind of a meeting ....a gamble that has backfired ..it makes perfect logic .

I guess the only saving grace with this is these people warned friends and family members who passed it around to save folk travel cost etc.

At least we know now it wasn't played out in front of a capacity crowd and claims in the media of a sell out and that "we were packed in like sardines" in the south stand are totally rubbish.

I would Imagine the meeting was was staged early ,for the same reason many riders have their testimonials early ,because once Europe kicks off theres no primadonnas to grab the money , Postponement of this one would have had people whinging about the poor quality of the field .

Experienced ref. Not necessarily one of my favourites, but he wouldn't bow down to the riders. He would have called the meeting off because the track was unfit. Which the Belle Vue management themselves have admitted (albeit blaming the contractors for it!!).

Meanwhile, it looks like the BV vs Poole Sky match have been moved back to April 27? A sensible move. Track needs to be spot on - BV can't afford another embarrassment.

To be honest they are embarrassing themselves on a daily basis.

The cancelling and rearranging of fixtures that is going on and being announced by Tom Cobbley and all.

Yet silence from Belle Vue.

They are just coming across as shabby.

When did they promise to issue a statement at 9am?

During David Gordon's rant:

“The work on the track will be reviewed by the stadium project team hourly and we will take a decision at 9am on Wednesday about whether or not we can run Friday’s home meeting against Wolverhampton. If the remedial work is successful completed and tested then we will race."

All the best

Rob

Drop a Cog will play his word games again and say he didn't say he'd make a statement.

Which of course, by doing so, he's unwittingly just highlighting the unprofessionalism of Gordon.

What Drop a Cog will tell you is that they will make a decision at 9am but stuff telling any fans what that decision is. They can wait.

The presumptions and assumptions never cease to flow.

It has been said they would monitor things hourly and make a decision Wednesday 9am - not make a statement.

Ouch got it right "hope they consult with Wolves, BSPA, and the SCB before making a statement.

You should have all given Dave Gordon your personal tel number so he can call you to make sure he gets your approval before he makes a public statement.

I would hope they consult with Wolves, BSPA and the SCB before making a statement about their 9 o clock decision.

Perfectly entitled to do that ... but in the meantime, any proper PR solution would get a holding statement out well before 9.30 explaining that such consultations with appropriate parties are now underway based on the previously-trumpeted Wed/9am decision ... that's how you neatly buy a few more hours' time (easily until mid-afternoon in this case) to come up with a more clear-cut statement.

Instead ... nearly 3 hours (and counting) of deafening silence.

PR isn't just about what you're saying at any particular time ... it's also (sometimes much more importantly) about thinking a couple of steps ahead of what you're currently saying and getting your defence in first.

Otherwise it looks as if anything to do with 9am/Wednesday in this particular case was just any old time-&-date plucked out of thin air.

I really don't understand why you are taking this perverse attitude.

It is really nothing to do with this 9am business, to me.

The Edinburgh official website carried the news yesterday that Friday's meeting at Belle Vue is off and that Max Ckegg and Sam Masters will be able to get to their practice at Armadale easily.

With that being the sort of information in the public domain it is bizarre that Belle Vue have not put out any form of statement themselves.

At this rate EVEN if they decided to run on Friday we will all have made other plans, surely.

The meeting on Friday is still on as per the statement below:-

"

Belle Vue Speedway - Good Friday Update

Belle Vue Speedway wish to sincerely thank all the fans that have supported the club during this challenging time and we apologise to everyone for any inconvenience that last Saturday's abandonment has caused.

An inspection of the circuit was made this morning (Wednesday March 23rd) of the remedial works carried by the track contractors on Turns 3 & 4, and progress of the works has been very positive.

A further inspection of the track will be made later today with a view to arranging a closed practice session tomorrow, and if all is well it is the club's intention to proceed with their Good Friday fixture as planned at 1pm.

"
They have also actually now apologised!

I'd rather see this cancelled tbh, until they have at least tried to run a full NL meeting. Why on earth risk the same or worse on Friday. Call it off, arrange an NL select or whatever for Fri behind closed doors.

The lesson from Saturday HAS to be don't use an important meeting as a test. Come on BV - how obvious does it have to be!!!!
