Popular Post lucifer sam
So hope that this proves to be the breakthrough. Of course, Darcy isn't the only rider affected. Fingers crossed for Lol Hare and Garry Stead and Leigh Adams and Pip Lamb and every other wheelchair bound rider as well. Steve Shovlar
Of course it goes without saying that there are thousands of people who could benefit from this new surgery if it proves to be successful.

stevehone
so is it just for people with a severed spinal column? if that's the case how do we know if it might help someone like Darcy as we haven't been told what his injuries are I don't think

All we need to know is that Darcy has a serious back injury and hope something can be done to help him.
Popular Post Star Lady
For crying out loud. All Steve Hone said was as we don't know the exact details of Darcys injury we cannot be sure If the hoped breakthrough will help him. What the heck is wrong with that!!!! For heavens sake let's not start all the holier than thou nonsense start up again Edited March 6, 2016 by Star Lady
Steve Shovlar
From what I can gather Darcys spinal cord was completely severed, meaning unlike Cegeilski whose column was crushed, there is no chance of ever being able to walk again. SteveLyric2
We'll be getting regular updates from Darcy (and Lizzie) in the Poole Matchday Programme throughout this coming season. The Spinal Rehab unit in Australia is already reporting amazing progress with Darcy!
stevehone
Why don't you post YOUR medical records on here? All we need to know is that Darcy has a serious back injury and hope something can be done to help him. I only asked if the treatment would be suitable for Darcy as we haven't as far as I know been told what his injuries are. a LOT of money has been raised and is still being raised, and if that money could be pushed towards perfecting this treatment then that can only help don't you think?

lucifer sam
Tyretrax, are you deliberately going around the forum trying to cause arguments? This was a positive thread regarding a medical breakthrough that could possibly change the lives of several wheelchair bound speedway riders. Well, it was until you came on here... Your comments are completely uncalled for. All the best Rob Edited March 7, 2016 by lucifer sam

Maybe it's the people who keep questioning Darcy's medical condition who are the ones who are trying to stir it up.

Yep I to saw it Steve, and it gives not only Darcy hope but many other spinal injury victims hope. This won't be a quick fix, but in say 20 years time there will be massive advances, and even then Darcy for example will only be in his early forties. It will happen, but it won't happen overnight. Up until now, stem cell surgery was the way forward to give spinal injury victims greater mobillty, but this in the long term could give greater results. From what I can gather Darcys spinal cord was completely severed, meaning unlike Cegeilski whose column was crushed, there is no chance of ever being able to walk again. I'm not understanding this. In your first post you say doctors are looking for people with severed spinal columns and your title of the thread is 'Hope for Darcy?' but then you go on to comment in the second post 'there is no chance of ever being able to walk again.' waiheke1
Pretty sure Steve meant no chance of walking without new medical advances such as the one referred to in his op.
