A Russian wants to do away with tapes and use lasers to start a race.He is looking for help to get this off the ground.A piece with a little video clip of how it should work

Absolutely love it, great idea. Laser technology now is pretty cheap too

Any tracks close to airports or on flight paths might need to be extra careful!!!!! :D

As long as the planes keep to an altitude of more than a few feet above track level the sport should be okay. If the plane's low enough to be affected by a horizontal laser beamed a couple of feet off the ground then I think there would be other more pressing problems to worry about

Interesting idea.

Next stop, make all the start grids level/same depth/no ruts/same level of moisture/etc.

Then get rid of start marshals.

Replace them with a holographic count down clock in front of the lasers - any rider not ready by zero is out and demonstrated by a big puff of smoke enveloping that rider.

Can they use industrial power lazers that will chop off the front wheels of any riders rolling at the start?

They should have two lasers one in place of the tapes, with the power to set light to the front tyre or melt the front wheel and one just behind the a#se of the riders to stop them moving or rolling backwards.

Grant's and Fosters. Needed to calm down.

What happened? Was at ice racing or something to do with your new track?Or just couldn't get the sauna working?

You could get a set of lasers installed for the new track. Not far from Russia

Sounds a good idea to me. Especially after our tapes farrago last season.

*Sarjent would still be accused by of jumping at the speed of light, travelling back in time or something.

It would never get off the ground. Thankfully for Sarjent and Garrity..

Seems to be the germ of an excellent idea - but would it prevent riders from trying it on and rolling in the same way that too many of them already do? If the laser beam somehow stops any movement until it is switched off, then I'd say bring it on.

Alternatively, the starting gate could be replaced with greyhound-style starting traps made of steel and opening forward and upwards away from the riders' front wheels. They couldn't be broken and any rider trying to roll wouldn't stretch them like they stretch the tapes and would then disadvantage themselves by having to pull their bikes backwards.

Might sound a fanciful idea but when thought about a bit more perhaps it isn't as daft as it first seems!
