El Predictions 2016

Poole didn't do to much wrong last season but I would hazard a guess that 90% of all controversy involves Poole who have pulled off some dodgy dealings in the past. The annoyance to true fans is the win at all costs attitude of some of the fans on here. I don't have a problem with the majority except for the village idiot who wants a 1 team elite league which to be fair isn't far away from happening.

In many ways that's the saddest part, Poole don't really have to cheat anymore to win the league. Years ago the league was won between March and October, now the league is virtually wrapped up between November and February.

Barring an injury crisis the title is as good as over already. Quite how a side who walked the title yet again, comes out of AGM with the best reserve pairing by a mile, is beyond belief. It is though the other promoters have a death wish. Are the other promoters actually sober, when they turn up at the AGM?

The meeting at Poole was a route, and Poole won at Brandon without their number 1. Newman apparently still graded as about 6/7? on the list paid 20. and Seargant 6 points, who would have guessed. Hans Andersen a multi grand prix winner, and world cup winner, now listed as a second string.. In the corresponding meeting last year he was facing Holder and Janowski, 2 grand prix riders in races, now at Brandon he is facing Garrity and Seargant in one race.

In the end you just have to hold your hands up, Ford simply runs rings around the rest of the promoters, and has done for many a year.

Its quite amazing what a modicum of intelligence, a solid business acumen, a strong will to win and some great foreign contacts can actually achieve isn't it?! :D

You mean like signing Emil Sayfutdinov, Shamek Pawlicki and Piotr Pawlicki, yes we once had an owner like that, but unfortunately he was driven out of the sport by your hero, and we are all now seeing the terribleconsequences for Coventry Speedway, of that trail of events.

I can also remember Peterborough, Ipswich, Birmingham and Eastbourne until recently being in the Elite league. Or maybe seasons when there was a full fixture list, including the Craven Shield, the KO Cup, unfortunately no more. So the downward spiral goes on, and it is only going in one direction.

Yes how we all laughed at the 8.00000001 rule, the text message signings etc, meanwhile in the real world, hundreds if not thousands of fans have quietly walked away from the sport. And every fan that has quietly walked away, costs the sport several hundreds of pounds each, money the sport simply can't afford to lose. Then you get fans who used to go to 40 meetings a year now go to 30, fans who went to 30 now go to 20, and on and on. Nobody I know goes to more meetings, most go to less, often a lot less, many have simply stopped going at all.

So by all means enjoy your pyrrhic victories,a win at all costs mentality is fine ,as long as the cost is not the very survival of the sport.

Spot on. Until the Kildemand-texting thing after the winter of 10/11 I was a regular attendee of some 60-80 meetings a year. Coventry on a Friday, Newport on a Sunday, any Coventry away meetings, any Newport meetings within an hour of Coventry plus 2 or 3 visits to each of Somerset, Birmingham, Wolves and Peterborough as a neutral. Since the Kildemand texting farce in August 2011 I've probably been to about 25 meetings.

5 years ago I'd have been to about 4 or 5 meetings by now, so far I've done 1.

Yes, it's mostly down to Matt Ford. Even the crap at Coventry most of that time (with some good mixed in tbf) is down to Ford as he forced Sandhu out. I don't totally blame him, the rest of the BSPA are held accountable for letting him get away with it all the time!

Yep, all that plus a couple of millionaires on the promotional team, one of whom comes with his own assets and has already shown he doesn't mind pouring tens of thousands a year into a club in an effort to build a winning side.

theres plenty of wealthy people in this country nothing stopping other promoters finding backers and putting out better teams, and it would stop some of their supporters continually whinging on here about poole, its their own promotions they should be complaining about

Really ? Plenty of wealthy people wanting to back Speedwáy clubs ? Plymouth missed a trick there then didn't they?

After the succession of fiascos culminating in the farce that was Belle Vue last week I doubt if even Starman in his wildest dreams believes there is a que of wealthy people waiting to pour money into a sport that doesn't even understand its own rule book and can't even hold on to the average Joe in the street let alone attract a string of wealthy backers.

nothing will stop poole winning again......

even when they have top riders injured they have the biggest pockets to sign yet another top rider ,all the other clubs have to go with guests or r/r as they simply carnt afford a hancock or co

add to that the consistant rule bending thats seems to be a regular occurance every play off time

i await to see the next episode of skullduggery its better than eastenders........

Plymouth football club struggle financially (or they did a few years ago) so hardly surprising that same with speedway.

When you look at how many clubs have dropped out of the so called Elite League in the last few years it's easy to see that the sport is too expensive from top to bottom.

The riders machinery has gone up & the easy answer to put the price up just is too much for fans now.

Such a shame & what the answer is needs to be found but it sure isn't easy.

I'd say the Speedway Star is pretty spot on. Lynns an odd one as we have no idea what plans are when Puk leaves - as there must be one, surely?! Or Leicester could beat them.
