Are Challenge Matches At Risk

Recommended Posts

An important change voted through at the AGM is the disappearance of the home team paying the visiting team a sum of money per point for each point scored. That payment has now disappeared with say Newcastle having to pay their riders all their points money for a challenge at Workington, so will they accept a challenge match under those circumstances PLUS it removes the excuse by promoters of not paying UNTIL the away team pay their proportion of the points money.

I thought challenge matches were pretty much the same as an open meeting, so the host club pays.

I think the meetings that barncooseboy is meaning is the season starters like the TTT Challenge, Ian Thomas Trophy, etc, which are decided on a home and away basis. If one of the ties is not run then the away team loses out on any income, despite they have to pay their own riders, but the home team in the completed meeting takes all the home takings. That is only fair and equatable if both ties are ridden and monies paid the same way in each leg. In the Worky meeting mentioned, the Newcastle leg was rained off in one of our first meetings, but the away meeting at Worky was not rearranged. From what he says, that means the Newcastle now have had to pay the Newcastle riders, which is unfair.
