Parry's International Coaches

Recommended Posts

I dropped off the forum for a couple of months as the back-biting and snide comments became too tiresome. I see little has changed during my absence.

Thankfully the well-mannered and interesting people on here make up for it, hence my return  .

What did Catford speedway have to do with it then ?

(Sigh). Since you are too busy being a 'hard man' to actually read the postings this thread started as an amiable conversation about Dave Parry and his connections with Crewe and Crayford speedways, two tracks enormously different in size.

It was explained that Crewe was a very large track due to the fact it was built around a cricket pitch. I commentated there once and yes it was immense.

The conversation then wandered in a friendly way to talks of track records on large tracks and it was mentioned that there were proposals to build an equally huge track around a cricket pitch in Catford.

People then discussed a modern contrast in track sizes.

On another tangent it was confirmed that Dave Parry had reversed his decision to sell-up and retire.

It was an interesting, friendly conversation.

Then you turned up.

Well done.

Don't waste your time with one of your nasty responses - sadly you've made a pleasant thread toxic and I won't be returning to it.

If this forum had balls you'd have been banned ages ago,

I first met Dave Parry in 1967 when I was commuting between Coventry and Liverpool Lime Street and he was a BR steward

One Thursday he served me with coffee whilst I was reading the new edition of Speedway Star, which he saw and then introduced himself to me

I helped him out in the pits after he fell at Blackbird Road while second-halfing and did his collar-bone

Good man who has done well for himself - well done Dave

Yeh ok Rob.. can remember having a discussion with you a while ago when you were caught out and started bleating and whining. I don't profess to being a hardman at all, i just dont like certain folk and won't tolerate their nonsense.

Your recent posts on another thread disgusted me to the point where i actually was close to posting a grossly offensive message to you but i thought better of it just in the nick of time.

Anyway, you're nothing to me, so i wont waste anymore time on this post.

I hope you have a really really enjoyable Christmas

Believe it was Barry Meeks? I spoke to Ian Cartwright a couple of years ago (rode for Crewe during the seventies) and he confirmed that it was big 'un...around a cricket pitch!

So when does a speedway track become a Long Track? Or if it's that big, why isn't/wasn't it a Long Track? (Bear in mind that a year or two ago, the FIM World Long Track Championship had a round at Rzeszow speedway track in Poland)

The FIM recommended lengths are 260m - 425m for speedway tracks and 350m - 1300m for long and grass tracks.

I think the historical FIM definition was 285-400 metres for a speedway track, and anything above was a long track. However, the minimum size for a speedway was reduced to 260 metres to accommodate indoor GP circuits, and the upper size was raised to 425 metres at some point, possibly to accommodate proposed Australian GP circuits. There were always domestic exceptions though, such as Claremont which I think was over 500 metres.

These days though, it seems anything goes for longtrack.

Teterow Bergring, which isn't a classic flat grass track is 1877m long, but in the 50s there were other large tracks in Germany.Ludwigslust was 1600m,Magdeburg was 1870m and Boxberg was a massive 2200m .The Czech Golden helmet meeting first started out on a 2400m track in Pardubice!!!!
