fullbore
Some fabulous racing, but . . . . Joker wins silver medal Well... Take of the extra 3 points and it would be a tie for second. Could you see any of the Swedes beating Tai in a match race? Hmmm... on the night I thought Noddy beat Freddie in heat 20 and filled out the scores accordingly! tellboy
No issue to be made. Wolves IS a well prepared track without question. Saturday proved that the NSS can provide as good a race meeting as anywhere. Masters won a race! So wasn't awful. Double points aren't allowed in nominated heats. Russia used Emil in heat 17 in Denmark. Tactical subs are allowed if 6 behind. As Gordon Bennett says,in the programme it says otherwise. No tac subs allowed in the nominated heats
New Science
Just back after a good weekend in Manchester. A few observations. Impressed with the stadium, sat in the main grandstand, great viewing and the stand holds the noise in,reminiscent of sitting in the stand at Bradford many moons ago.Not quite in agreement with the conditions of entry that you can't take in an soft drink, flask of tea but you can take in a bell,I'm ok but burgers and pies aren't everyone's staple diet. The programme, only bought one because I couldn't get a race card, anorexic for a tenner, Racing at the race off was poor, couldn't see the reason why as early morning rain is usually ideal for the track surface.Team USA whats the point ? Personally if I was in charge of the DMU I would replace Hans Nielsen. As good a rider as Nielsen was he was decisive,he admitted in the Star in his time he didn't get on previously with Ole and Erik ie half of his national side. By dropping Nicki he tried to make the World Cup all about himself.Did anybody believe this time last night that Denmark would not make the final with a round on home shale with another chance in the race off. When you leave out 2 GP riders and it doesn't work you have serious questions to answer. On to the final, one of the best meetings Ive ever seen in GB. Track was absolutely superb ,racing brilliant, great atmosphere and a terrific rearguard effort from Team GB.Well done to Rosco and Tai for the way they lead the team, not sure whats with the suit on track walk with every member in every other team in official teamwear,it is a team event after all.Thought the Aussies made a big mistake not playing the joker in the second block of races, cost them big style. On the whole well done to everyone at Belle Vue,and to BSI,just seed the hosts to the semis in future so we can have an even better World Cup. racers and royals
As Gordon Bennett says,in the programme it says otherwise. No tac subs allowed in the nominated heats Take it from me that the programme on that point is a load of old cack !!!! tac subs- - NOT JOKERS are allowed in heats 17-
Derwent
As Gordon Bennett says,in the programme it says otherwise. No tac subs allowed in the nominated heats Rules 078.9.3 and 078.9.4 cover the TS and Joker rules... http://www.fim-live.com/en/library/download/57330/no_cache/1/
Rob B
Quite rightly, the tickets clearly state- "Air hoens with a flammable content are prohibited inside the stadium. Non flammable air horns are available from the official merchandise outlets." So why were security preventing people taking in non flammable air horns when these weren't prohibited? Who is responsible for this total contradiction- FIM, BS!, NSS or the Belle Vue club? Niamh Tickets were printed by BSI, pretty sure it's the same wording they use for Cardidf too. damosuzuki
Have to say that watching this on TV this morning the racing and the atmosphere are fabulous. So glad this was such a success. Hopefully get their act together on the stadium and fireworks etc because this track well prepared is awesome. What a success for British Speedway and the hard work of the Belle Vue management.
mikebv
100%agre reminded me of these great BLRC meetings at Hyde Road.Maybe next season the Sport could start the season with a HUGE individual event similar to the old BLRC at its 'spiritual home' of Belle Vue...? Put it on the calender pre Poland, get Tai, Nikki P, Emil, Greg et al over to add to the best of the EL riders... Selling tickets from now till say end of March/Early April would I suggest deliver a crowd similar to last night... £20 tickets would make good xmas presents...! You could effectively launch the British Speedway season off the back off it. Hold a big city centre event in Manchester to showcase the Meeting and wider sport in general... Maybe every British team putting in five grand each to deliver a six figure prize fund would get some wider media publicity too? 10,000 fans at £20 bringing in £200k of revenue would more than cover any outlay for the clubs and give them a huge opportunity to promote their Leagues... Confirm date asap and you would have eight/nine months to plan, get sponsors, let fans get hotels etc... Maybe even make it a two night event on the Friday and Saturday with eight riders (top eight in GP?) 'seeded' to the final and 16 other competitors racing for the other eight spots on the Friday? £30 a ticket for both events would deliver £300k!! The track can take two nights racing as we have seen so why not give it a go? It could become the BSPA's 'Cardiff GP'.. And what a start to a speedway season it would be..! The presentation of the meeting was diabolical.

PHILIPRISING
What a differrence a day makes !!! Yesterday we had pages of complaints about the Run-off and how bad it was. Today we have pages saying totally the opposite. Both meetings were run at the same venue; Both matches had the same crowd, Both matches had the same riders. The only difference was the preparation of the track. When considering 1000's of fans are appreciative of the brilliant racing that Saturday produced, it just goes to show how important the track man is to the promotion of Speedway. When the track is as good as last night the concept of speedway is far more exciting and easy to sell. Promoters doing cost cutting on track preparation and the materials use, are on false pretence, when in fact they are destroying the excitement the fans crave for...... The meeting last night had it all, Wonderful occasion tremendous atmosphere, exciting racing. For GB to collect a creditable Silver Medal was the icing on the cake. It would be wrong to be judgemental on individual riders but special mention for Woffy, who showed what a great rider is really is in this world class field. Congratulation to Poland for being SWC Champions, but the biggest winner last night was the sport itself.... CANNOT agree about same riders both days. No Poles or Swedes on Friday. Much bigger crowd on Saturday. Track preparation on Friday was determined by the weather with the rain showers infringing much later into the afternoon than anticipated. On Saturday fresh dirt was brought in and the track was prepared as they wished. That, along with the higher quality of riders than Friday, produced such superb racing without the long gaps between riders. It also went to show it isn't about speed. Every race on Friday bettered the previous track record set before the Race-Off. On Saturday times were well over a second slower.

fullbore
The council, parts of noise regulations. So the NSS and the Belle Vue club will be fully aware. Were the FIM & BSI informed? martinmauger
Thought Team GB did great. After watching the first events and how the Swede,s Poles and Assies went 'Woffy v The Rest' and therefore a home pasting seemed on the cards. But all the Brit riders did great; seeing off the Swedes and Aussies and getting within touching dstance of the 'always gonna be quick on this track Poles'. 2nd in the World Cup Final - I'll take that all day long. Freakin' brilliant ....
