Bristol Bulldogs 1977-78

Bob Coles took a spectacular purler in heat 2 of the BL match with Wimbledon on 5th May 1978. See here at 1:06 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrwVlFEmvKA

Speedway Star reported it as fell, excluded. However the Mail reports fell, non-starter and the yearbook awards Coles 0-0-0.

I must say it looks like a stonewall FX to me but can anyone recall just what the referee's decision was?

Coles sustained fractured ribs in the crash but was soon back in action.

If I recall the accident was featured on either World of Sport or Grandstand at the time!

Only my second ever meeting---Bristol v White City i thought it was great at the time

My first visit to Bristol was the same meeting in 1977 (the original was cancelled due to rain... which I also attended!) 'The Rebels' were chasing the championship and a win here would have more or less tied it up. However they lost by two points despite the superlative efforts of Gordon Kennett, Kai Niemi and Mike Sampson. Great memories!
