There are lies, lies, dam lies and anything that comes out of TR’s mouth...this Swindon track situation is a proper farce and another shot in the foot of British speedway.

Its a week delay. Surely a bigger lie is getting everyone in on Thursday the having to cancel it after a few heats. Speedway starts too early anyway in the year and there are too many blank weeks in the summer when the weather is good. One postponed fixture in April is not the end of the world.

correct again the swindon management are not being respectful to the fans the fans know the score lee kilby always said it WILL BE ON ??? hmmm humble pie being served now !!!

Damned if they do and damned if they don't..

I remember being in a crowd once, a crowd full of anticipation to see a new track, (maybe you were there too?), and coming away thinking "Speedway! No matter how many times you give it another go, it will always be a Mickey Mouse amateur shambles"...

At least this time a couple of thousand fans (including Aces supporters again no doubt), won't have yet another reason to feel so peed off with the way the Sport is ran once more...

And no need for humble pie either, as with any Speedway meeting, the track may have been absolutely perfect on the day but the heavens might have opened so no meeting would have taken place anyway...

The season finishes many months from now, so better to wait and do something properly,  than rush things through half arsed and spectacularly fail...

Especially when you are in Swindons unique position where they will want to be seen as ultra professional in the eyes of the public and local officials, given the challenges they are facing with their new home..

A brand damaging opening night farce could have been a disaster that they just may have struggled to recover from..

A hell of a lot of sense spoken here. Look at the delays Tottenham had opening their new stadium. Did anybody consider they were shooting themselves in the foot? One week won't do any harm. Like you say, there are plenty spare weeks in the summer to use. You really don't want a repeat of the Belle Vue opening night, that would be far more damaging.

I'm a Spurs fan who attends game and the past 6 months have been the biggest frustration ever with the constant delays. A one week delay to our new speedway track is nothing!

How badly are the crowds going to be affected due to this delay. There are plenty who won't risk attending a first meeting with a new track surface any more so the pre Easter Thursday meeting which was always liable to be a bumper event could now turn into a fraction of the original number. IF the unthinkable happens and the meeting gets abandoned then it will sink the Easter Monday meeting also which will have a large financial knock on for the season.

Why make the change too track so close too the season in the first place...now  the predictable happens.. Swindon track isn't ready. Swindon go too Wolves having not even had a press day. So probably old stock pictures .Standard portraits in new colours doesent even need a track.... you wonder why the sport is in such a decline.

Common sense to not to run the meeting but questions have  no be asked why it took so long to start the work in the first place leaving such a tight deadline .

Common sense is a foreign  language in speedway.  Ha ha ha. Will be interested to hear honest views of the riders after the first meeting. Is one extra week going to allow track to bed in properly  for a season of racing ....

With the dog racing  and rain we are getting today both tyre packing and practice by the riders would have been very difficult today or tomorrow and could have caused issues so it is the best decision to postpone.

Geoffrey. FFS. You do come across on here as an idiot. Yet in real life ur a decent bloke.

You should know all to well as a fellow aces fan that risking an opening meeting on a track that's not ready is not what Swindon or the sport needs  delaying it a week is a great idea. One which belle vue management at the time should have done.

It has been stated that they really wanted to get the track work done sooner but they couldn't untill they had the say so. It was out of Swindon speedways hands.

So good luck to Swindon in your opening ceremony so to speak next week against your nearest rivals. And let's hope it's a success because it's not only good for Swindon but more importantly for the sport as a whole

Couldn't have put it better myself. A well balance viewpoint.

i echo your post phil but there is no way of getting away from the fact swindon fans have been let down you can read it from their own fans still no explanation and the where about's of the pre-built grandstand in storage in wales ??? and it must be a Aces thing being a idiot on here remember you apologising for some comment/post in the past  many a thing said in haste :t:

Just to qualify one of your points......Swindon speedway do not own the Abbey, Stadia UK do. The ''pre-built grandstand'' you mentioned is owned by Stadia UK, not Swindon, they are the ones who have stated that the prebuilt grandstand is in storage in Wales. The Speedway club (and even the local media) can only provide information which is given to them by Stadia UK. This is also the reason the track reshape hasn't started until a few weeks back, the landlord has to grant permission. I hope this clears a few of your points up.

Didn't Terry Russell state in the local rag work would start towards end of February in swindon advertiser yet today  an article in Advertiser states permission wasnt granted for track changes till 11 March... why start changes then and not  in October giving plenty of time for work to be done and track have a winter too bed in... will the delay of week make a ounce of difference in first turn bedding in....

It depends which Terry Russell you believe. This one from the 26th September 2018:

All that is in my hands is the alterations on our track and taking it from what it is now to a 300m track.

“I am commencing that work immediately so that we don’t hold up the work with the stadium once they can start.

https://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/sport/16903310.swindon-robins-to-rip-up-abbey-stadium-track-this-winter/

Or this one, from the 23rd January:

Quote

We’ll be looking to get the track completed at the beginning of February, although we haven’t started work yet – which I am not concerned about.

https://www.swindonadvertiser.co.uk/sport/17377892.swindon-robins-chairman-terry-russell-plans-to-start-work-on-improved-abbey-stadium-race-track-layout-next-month/

Swindon's new track has had more false starts than a heat featuring James Sarjeant.
