The Third Man
They may become known to a wider audience, but i am afraid no one in football is bothered about little Torquay excet the supporters of Torquay, so dont expect any bad publicity about this matter
A ORLOV
Question...are the people at Swindon, the same people who own Torquay Utd stadium? If so...I think Swindon Speedway is truly stuffed. This won't happen imo, if so. Yes, the same mob are looking to redevelop Poole Stadium as well which is worrying for them.
steve roberts
I posted a link a while back from the Torquay local paper that reported that Gaming International's take over was now being fiercely opposed, but it did go through at Christmas. I think the locals have seen through him as this story from April suggests. http://www.middevongazette.co.uk/exclusive-big-interview-torquay-united-owner-clarke-osborne-says-i-m-not-genghis-khan/story-30294613-detail/story.html Osborne claims he's not Genghis Khan. I'd hope not since he'd be giving off a whiff after being dead for nearly eight centuries. Now, Arthur Daley............ The Guardian also picked-up on the GI story. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/apr/16/torquay-fans-fear-relegation-losing-home-96-years-plainmoor These two paragraphs re Torquay/GI are very interesting: "Nicholson remains in charge, doing his best in straitened circumstances, but the board who hired him departed in December. Having put their shares in the club up as collateral to borrow almost £150,000 from a businessman named Clarke Osborne, they relinquished control before Christmas to avoid going into administration. The owner of Gaming International, a company with a history of investing in sports grounds for redevelopment purposes, Osborne is a wrecking ball with a history of razing stadiums on the promise of building replacements that never materialise. To date, he has been responsible for the eviction of Bristol Rovers from Eastville and the closure of greyhound and speedway tracks, in places such as Reading and Milton Keynes. GI is also the tenant of the council-owned Poole Stadium, where it runs the dogs and leases the speedway track to the local club. Osborne arrived at Torquay promising investment in a bid to stave off relegation but no new players were signed." For the likes of GI no news is good news. Thankfully now they've taken on football their activities will reach a much wider audience. He tried to force thru' the sale of Oxford Stadium in 1975/76 also until the SOS committee stepped in! Especially where stadia are concerned.
The Third Man
Well The Guardian did...... And where was the outcry from the football league about it or the FA
RobMcCaffery
And where was the outcry from the football league about it or the FA I posted the links to the articles in good faith, forgetting that it would just be abused by someone out to win arguments at all costs. Postings deleted - obviously a total waste of my time.

Surely the council can do something. Poole surely have to terminate their relationship with GI as well. I believe in Karma, and this character (and his cohorts) hopefully gets his share. Despicable.

uk_martin
I was at the Abbey last night, and noticed the new houses are now rising behind the massive pile of earth in the car park. The location for the 'new stadium' does seem to be getting squeezed from all angles. Don't worry about it. The new Swindon Stadium was promised to be "just like Cardiff" and that stadium is well hemmed in by other constructions all around it.
Gresham
If the new track does get built, is there a link or any info as to what size, design it's going to be?
damosuzuki
See the poor sods are Torquay are actually discussing GI's plans for 'a new stadium' by 2020. People are still listening to this carrot

I think its currently with Alan in the design department, once he's finished designing the track at Milton Keynes and Reading he'll be right on it!

Stoke Potter
Has it been stated before it'll be something along the lines of Cardiff, i.e. sub-optimal. If it were to ever appear of course!
A ORLOV
If the new track does get built, is there a link or any info as to what size, design it's going to be? As Gresham states something like the size of Cardiff, but they seem to keep changing their mind as originally it was going to be like the track at Birmingham. What I did see at the back of the pits was a new airfence for the "new stadium" which is being installed and tested on the present track, so just check how much of the airfence is new and how much is the old airfence and that will give an indication of size.
Argos
I visited Swindon for their last meeting, I couldn't believe how many houses there is and so close to the track, I love my Speedway but there's no way I would buy a house so close to a Track, Also I couldn't visualise were the supposedly new track will be anyone any idea? The plans seem to vary, but this is roughly where: The most up to date plans seem to show more of an overlap between the new track and the existing first bend. Looks pretty but any signs of movement on this long running saga or has Clark Osborne done a runner?
