Why Is There So Much Secrecy About The Reserve Picks?.

Recommended Posts

At the time in 2015 we did not know much about Paul Starke at all.........it turned out he was a great pick but it did not start out like that

Kyle Howarth may be one of the youngest reserves I have no issue with that but why is he in the draft now when he has been in the main team of several teams over the last few years.........and done reasonably well as well..............

RP

Maybe all the promotors said at the meeting that they wouldn't give Kyle a place in their team in the 1-5 & they agreed it wasn't fair that a young rider lost out as a result.

I have no problem with him being in it than a journeyman rider older than him & with much less ability.

For the record, the Speedwáy Star averages for last seasons EL matches are :-

Newman 8.41

Garrity 8.09

Auty 7.29

Kerr 7..15

Birks 7.13

Worrall 6.98

Wright 6.63

Blackbird 6.37

Starke5.34

Sarjeant5.23

The others aren't listed

It's also worth mentioning that according to the SS stats Newmans away average was better than anyone else's home average, except for Garrity's.

No doubt about it that Newman was far and away the outstanding EDR rider.

Starke was always going to be one of, if not the top tier two rider. It's why Wolves fans were so appalled their management didn't pick him, thus leaving him for the second team to pick to have him.... Poole!

one can only assume someone put pressure on wolves not to pick starke, as starke had riding for cradley at monmore quite well, it was a no brainer to pick starke.....

not really a mystery, its like a put earlier its the scratch my back ill scratch yours mentality, bribes, back handers , favours , little brown envelopes

if FIFA can be found to be so corrupt , im sure speedway as miniscule in comparison could be just as corrupt !

Its not. It's the rest of the BSPA screwing up again.

Really don't know how you can say that. Wolves had the pick they fouled up we won the league, end of.

Ive already given you my take. We have a promoter who's very quick of the mark, nothing to do with getting things our way. Matt is miles and miles ahead of everybody.

nope think your way off there , he's not a clairvoyant,

either he or his cronies make up the rules to vote on , or he has inside information on the way the vote is going to go ...

no way is it down to the skills of ford , dont give me that crap.....

a big red flag for me is theres no transparency at all.. whats to hide.... let us know which promoters first drafted these rules and the way the promoters voted.. whats to hide ?????

Look it won't matter what i or any other poole fan says.if i say white you will say black. Matt Ford knows what he's doing, its his job.

IT does seem as though all rule changes benefit Poole but I reckon 8 Matt fords would be better than 1 Matt ford and 7 muppets.maybe a disaster but then again maybe not

I get where you are coming from but rule changes are made for everyone not just Poole..............its just that Poole use the rules to a better advantage than other promotions...............

I'd agree with that. I said when the FTR scheme was first introduced that promotions will pay lip service to the benefits of the scheme for young British riders, but would be more concerned with exploiting the scheme so as to gain an advantage.

We were all aware how frustrated the Pirates were with their efforts to get a fruitful return from their second reserve in the first season. In the end it didn't really matter because Kyle Newman was so effective that he became the trump card which played a key role in delivering the title.

Therefore, given the potency of Newman it seems daft that the Pirates have also benefited from early picks in the second tier for the past two drafts. Given that Kyle is a protected asset they in effect only get one pick. Surely as the champs logic should see that when they do get a pick (in the second tier) that they should get 8th pick?
