Pirate Nick
Would you invite 6000 people to a house party whilst you knew the roof was leaking in the first place and let them all in?And you probably wouldn't have charged them to come either
ouch
If he did charge them before the rain came then once the problem was known, I'd hope he would offer a refund as is right and proper.
Reviresco
Possibly a rhetorical comment but I assume Saturday's National League fixture, which I'd diarised to go to, is postponed. Still showing on every relevant website, Facebook and twitter page as being on. Having paid for accommodation up front and travelled to Plymouth and gone to Ipswich for a rain off already this season I'd rather not travel this time, although as with the other two I'd find other things to do instead of feeling sorry for myself. Flatford Mill and Plymouth Hoe are rather more attractive options than Moss Side on a Saturday night though. Now announced as postponed on the club web-site and the BSPA's. If everything is 'on hold' now until at least the 25th, then expect the 2nd Round of the British Youth Championships scheduled for 24th to be postponed too. Would it not have been a good idea for the club to make an announcement on their web-site to let people know about the current situation, as not everyone would have heard Dave Gordon on BBC Radio Manchester, or read about it on here? OK, maybe they are waiting until after the Fans' Forum on Thursday, but the way things have been handled so far, the more official news that emanates from the club the better, I would've thought. Reviresco
The best place to look is the official website http://www.bellevueaces.co/newsitem.aspx?id=1675 Unfortunately completely devoid of lies though so not as entertaining, unless you ignore what it says and make it up yourself, lol! Ah! That's what's probably happened here, it says 'meeting off' but it reads to you 'cheese'? Yep, can see the announcement of the postponement of the Colts match. I was suggesting that maybe the club could make an announcement of the decision to put things 'on hold' until at least 25th. But then you probably read what I said as 'onion'? Maybe you should re-read my post #1362 - it won't turn your brain into swiss cheese. Edited April 12, 2016 by macca56
hyderd
Belle Vue's promotion have not lied about the postponement of the match against Leicester, they had to be careful what they said because of legal reasons. A fault with the drainage system arose after 1 or 2 heavy showers on Thursday on turns 3/4, this fault caused rain water to seep up onto the track instead of going into the drainage system (as it did on the rest of the track) as showers were forecast on Friday the decision to call off the match was made due to the weather. This was the safest reason for our promotion as like I said earlier, legal issues!
PHILIPRISING
DAVID Gordon at his most forthcoming yet about the problems with the track in SS this week ... the whole of bends 3/4 are being dug up and relaid because the sub-base has proven faulty but this remains a matter between Manchester City Council and the contractors who were responsible for laying the track to the specifications (length, width, etc) of the BV management. Reviresco
Youth championship meeting on 24th is cancelled. Thanks for that. Presumably this will be announced on the Belle Vue web-site and Twitter feed in due course...
Aces51
There's also nothing yet to confirm this on the BSPA or Youth Championship websites.
Steve Shovlar
So if they have cancelled a meeting on the 24th, what chance the big Sky meeting against Poole being on shortly after this date? It would be a fantastic launch meeting so surely the BV promotion would be moving hell and high water to make sure this was on, no? When Poole town came back to Wimborne Road in the early 90's, Mervyn Stewksbury managed to get a brand new track laid in two weeks around the enlarged football pitch. Not much as the track will need time to settle down after the work being done on it now, and with more unsettled weather due which will not help. waiheke1
Would be a great launch meeting. But at this stage the only sensible thing is to wait for the track to be 100% right, whenever that may be.
Aces51
There's only a limited amount Belle Vue can do. Many on here still don't seem to understand that it is Manchester City Council who are in control of the building project and who deal directly with the contractors. However, it has been said that the Council are very supportive of Belle Vue and will, I am sure, be doing everything possible to ensure that the problems are resolved as quickly as possible. I expect that more news may be forthcomingat the Fans Forum this evening.
KIRKYLANE
IF Sky stick to their guns and say they want Belle Vue to have had at least two meetings before the cameras go there , then I guess it won't be televised on the 27th..... No doubt SKY might change their minds also.....
Reviresco
There's also nothing yet to confirm this on the BSPA or Youth Championship websites. I would expect Belle Vue to wait for the Youth Championship promoter to notify them of their decision to cancel, they may ask Belle Vue to announce that the meeting has been cancelled, but that would be for them to decide. It certainly isn't for Belle Vue to make announcements (public or secret squirrel) about other promoter's meetings, whatever the circumstances, without approval. That is how it should be done, isn't it? As I said - 'in due course'... The British Youth Speedway web-site and Twitter feed both confirm the cancellation of Round 2 of the British Youth Championship at Belle Vue which was scheduled for 24th, with a new date TBA. Not sure whether 'moving hell and high water' is an apt expression to used in these circumstances or not Steve. Of course, a track was laid in a fortnight around the football pitch at Brooklands back in 1969 to allow Rochester to move their operation to Romford - times change and different circumstances I suppose. But, most importantly Philip, is Colin Meredith still confident everything will be fine in a day or two like you so wretchedly reported in the midweek after the Peter Craven fiasco ? And maybe you as a journalist might like to find out just how much speedway expertise there is within those involved in this project among either the city council or the contractors because it seems that they're both as clueless as each other about what they're supposed to do to resolve this farce. Overall, we currently appear to have a clueless city council dealing with an equally clueless bunch of contractors who've been given the specifications of the track by the two clowns in charge of running Belle Vue. Still wondering why the National Speedway Stadium is currently such a laughing stock ?
