Would have been nice for them to keep you informed as that's where I originally looked. This thread really has been stirred today with Kent's wooden spoon Also lets not forget as you get older you say things you don't mean to. That Kent are Elite never materialised like Len said it would!

anyway you corrected me thanks very much and we have learnt a lesson from this Kent are not very good at press releasing!

You do realise all press releases go to the BSPA press officer and are put on their website don't you? Would save you a lot of time not going through every team's websites each day to find the latest news.

 

As for stirring, how so? A rider has been announced and for some reason you alone are refusing to accept it.

Yes I realise that. I am accepting it. But every other team says on their own website when they announce a rider, that's all I am saying. And as for stirring- You and I are filling up this forum page with one stupid argument I have realised I was wrong and with a wooden spoon because kent came last. I am used to explaining hidden puns to people older than me so don't worry!

Hmm, well considering the Press Release just posted on the Kent Kings website is the 239th. news release of this season alone , 139 of which have been local press releases, I'd respectfully suggest that not only are we at Kent Kings actually very good at "press releasing" (sic) but that I doubt there's a club in the country which will have done any more...

 

As you say in the latest of your interminable sequence of postings on this Forum, "There was when I was wrong" (sic) - and this clearly is yet another example of that!

The news that Kent SLYDE Kings supporters have been waiting for has been confirmed on a very big day for the clubs major discovery since Speedway opened at Central Park, Danny Ayres.

 

For on the same day that the Newmarket-based fans favourite Ayres was confirmed as a definite starter in the Sittingbourne-based Speedway clubs team for a third season, the National League Riders Championship runner-up signed his first Premier League [PL] contract also a deal which sees the 29 year old doubling up in the PL for the ambitious club, Glasgow Tigers.

 

Len Silver, co-promoter of the SLYDE-backed Kings announced,

The management have agreed for Danny to join Glasgow Tigers as their new number 7 under the Premier League's new mini-fast track scheme. This is the new ruling regarding team composition in the PL agreed at last months British Speedway Promoters Associations [bSPA] conference, whereby each club in the sports second tier have to have at reserve a British-born National League rider. I could not be more pleased - Danny's involvement with such a forward looking club as Glasgow can only help him move ahead in his career and that ultimately means better scoring for the Kings, so it is a win-win situation

 

Legendary tune-smiths from north of the border, The Proclaimers might have boasted of going 500 Miles -but thats small beer for Ayres, who will now be undertaking a 700 miles round trip for home PL meetings from his Cambridgeshire base! . The capital city slickers from Ashfield though, have certainly shown their commitment to the in-form Ayres, because part of the deal is the provision of transport with driver facilities.

 

Glasgow Tigers Team Manager Stewart Dickson commented,

I think Danny is going to surprise a few people and I believe weve got ourselves a very good three-point British rider. Obviously the PL is a step up in class for him but its no coincidence that he was getting guest booking after guest booking at the tail end of the season in the City Gearboxes National League [CGNL] and scoring double figures in almost every meeting. He had several other clubs in for him and thats not an exaggeration. But Dannys been true to his word, because I was the first one to approach him

 

Ayres certainly finished the CGNL season as the man most in demand and was in sizzling form as Danny recounts,

I started getting a number of guest bookings during the CGNL season and then but after I won the Pairs and came second in the National League Riders, the phone just didnt stop ringing! I rode for Cradley, Birmingham, Mildenhall, Coventry in the EL and for Somerset including an away match at Glasgow, which was the first time Id ridden at Ashfield. , it was a lot of work but I dont like to turn anyone down - all I want to do when I get on my bike is give it 200%.

It certainly was such a rich vein of form in the latter weeks of the 2015 campaign that Ayres became, as the Speedway season entered hibernation from the turning of November, the most coveted rider in terms both of the CGNL and also by PL clubs looking to fulfil the new obligations regarding British riders.

 

Danny said,

I have put a lot of pressure on myself and I do believe I can make it in this sport. In my head perhaps Id hoped Id be where I am now a year ago, but putting it all together and achieving it with all the challenges has been amazing. I am very proud but I put so much on myself Id be disappointed in a way if I didnt achieve what I have. I was a bit frustrated when the season finished because everything was really going so well.

 

With many CGNL clubs having Ayres top of their wish list, its fantastic news for the SLYDE-backed Kings that Ayres will be back in the iconic Invicta race jacket again in 2016,

Kent Speedway club is obviously my first love in Speedway. Its where I began my career so soon after first riding a bike at a Ride and Slide Day and all that Ive achieved in these two short years has been as a Kings rider. Im delighted to be back again in 2016 performing in front of the best bunch of supporters one could ever hope for.

 

And the winter wont be a quiet time for Ayres, with some practice at making the long journey up north also on the cards,

Im looking forward to the winter because I know it gives me the opportunity to put in a lot of practice and develop my style while Im not in race mode. Ill also have time to look after my bikes and put into practice some of things Ive learned during the year. All that hopefully will make me a better rider when I come back in 2016.

 

His new PL club are able to assist with this as Stewart Dickson explains,

I know Danny cant wait to get started. Hes going to come up and practice whenever the tracks available and get some much-needed lap time in. Hes really excited by it.

 

Kent co-promoter Len Silver sought to reassure SLYDE Kings fans that Ayres additional commitments will not affect his ability to turn out for the Central Park-based club,

Great care will be taken when putting our fixture list together to avoid clashes between the clubs and Glasgow have promised to do all they can to minimise interruption to Kent's schedule, which begins on Good Friday with home and away dates with Eastbourne.

And Ayres has already caused something of a frenzy among female fans r north of the border with a national newspaper (the Daily Record) hailing the 29-year-old as the sexiest hunk riding in British Speedway!! And this is all before our Danny has even invested in a kilt!

Seeing as you've mentioned it and have commented incorrectly again about a matter relating to Kent Speedway - this is exactly what Len Silver said at the Fans Forum held after our final Monday evening meeting last season (and this is a transcript of a recording of what he said, so a definitive quote):

 

“I know a lot of you are wondering about our plans for next year and have heard a number of rumours and stories and so on. I want to tell you the state of play as it is this very day. Our ultimate plan for this club is to have a Kent team elevated into the Elite League and in addition to that to run a National League team alongside it, that is our plan.

“There are obviously T’s to be crossed and I’s to be dotted but I personally think that is what will happen and I will stay involved in the whole promotion as is Roger Cearns our stadium owner. It will make this club the most exciting club in the whole country and that's what we have to look forward to.

"I have to tell you that its not all cast in stone. There are a few hurdles to overcome not the least of which is our planning situation. You are aware of the restrictions that town planning place upon us which you have no idea the difficulties creates for this club.”

 

So there we have it - no statement that the track was definitely going to run in the Elite in 2016.

Len is clearly saying that

(1) it is the "ultimate plan" for Kent to run in the EL (whilst keeping an NL side too) and indeed it's a matter of public record (eg planning application)that this is what the club wants to move towards doing;

(2) That on the day he was speaking he believed this was likely to happen in 2016;

and (3) he pointed out there were obstacles to overcome.

 

As it happened these obstacles couldn't be overcome for this to happen in 2016 - which remains a crucial year for the club not least due to the need to return to Planning to get Swale Council to give an extension (hopefully permanently) for the sport to continue at Central Park - allowing these ultimate goals as described time to be achieved.

 

No untruths were told and if an opinion stated then turned out not to become the case, well, that sort of thing can of course happen.. That's a very different thing from the allegation made of what was said being wrong or worst than that, misleading: neither of which is, as you can I trust now see, was the case.

Alex take your head for a wobble mate. You seem to be the only one who can't accept a quote from our Co promoter as official. Then say he was wrong to announce his ultimate goal for the club, which has not happened yet.

Kelsey Dugard has said he is probably not riding for Eastbourne next year, will he go to kent? Just to say I didn't see his quote thats why I didn't accept it. and how many times do goals in speedway get reached?

Logic on going Elite would be that Lakeside had folded. If, as is the case, they were running then a Friday running would be a non-starter and Elite league starting at 18:30 and completion come 20:30 is also illogical. The club's aspirations are commendable and I hope achievable, but not yet awhile I doubt.

The Planning Committee's decision when relayed back (though not evident at the actual Hearing itself) was that the extended curfew to 9.30pm was for Elite League only (and as you say, on Fridays).

 

An illogical decision because obviously any 'issues' the Council had about so-called "noise" (in fact no noise nuisance has ever been caused) would be no different whatever division or level of Speedway takes place at Central Park.

But nonetheless that is the current state of play regarding Planning.

Need to get planning to run beyond this upcoming season as it is the last with planning granted. Seems that the devil is at work at CP and all could be lost as the Local Authority seem hesitant to grant any form of social activity licence. Seems it could go to the dogs!
