Birmingham Brummies 2016

History's a funny old thing isn't it? This connection with Ipswich...it'll remind some of the early 1970's when Birmingham was effectively Ipswich's junior team when Joe Thurley and John Berry co-promoted the pair, until their fall-out. Let's see how long the new, slightly less formal arrangement lasts.

Was just thinking the same thing, of the days when Mick Hines, Mike Lanham, Ted Howgego used to ride for the Brummies.

I realise that Darryl Ritchings is a Swindon asset, but with him and Hume in the Birmingham team, it will give Witches fans an interest in the NL side this year and somewhat revives the old link between the two clubs.

Have to agree with you Ben its going to be a big team to beat, I think the problem is going to be the lower order in the team and the riders that will double up with the PL, i have seen it in the past where the ups and downs of racing in 2 leagues is a problem, you can loose heart in one league and then be picked up again in the other. Lucky for Eastbourne they dont have that problem but Birmingham do, it may work to there advantage and again it may work against them who knows. good luck to Birmingham and hope to see you in the Finals this year.

I think looking at the Brum vs Eastie teams they are not a mile apart Waj/Hughes, Ritchings/Knight, Perry/Hopwood & Bacon/Wood are all pretty even match ups. Id give Andrews the edge over Hume based upon experience but I think Hume will go further in the long run.

The deciders are the reserves and the combined JPB / Smith combination will be too strong for Powell / Phillips (although if Brum swapped Smith for Powell it would be a fantastic side IMO)

Would it be fair to say that since the 2 big boy's that have come into the NL Eastbourne and Birmingham with currant EL experience, that Cradley have now been knocked of there top dog mantel

Perhaps however I like the look of the Cradley team this year even if I am unsure of a few of the individual riders I think they will be a very potent threat if they do all click especially at Monmore.

This team will really take some stopping! The league in general looks fairly even (the obvious 3 are definitely the strongest 3 imo) but this side looks truly brilliant!! There's bags of improvement in this team and and some real talents which should make it good to watch too.

I hate this mantle of favourite. I think back to our second season back in 2008. We were named by everyone as favourite for the league that season. Adam roynon, Kyle Legault, Jason Lyons, Phil Morris et al. I well remember the buzz at the press and practice. We couldnt miss with that team could we? What happened? We just missed out. Yeah we just missed out on the wooden spoon!!!

Mind you 13 riders injured (Yes you read that right.) will kill any team.

But it still isn't true.

Doubly-wrong as they now think Jack Parkinson-Blackburn is the first NL rider born in the 21st century....however he turned 15 last year.

We're still waiting for the first rider born in the 21st century to get an NL place..... I imagine it will be Lewis Whitmore when he turns 15 and gets a NL place.

You can turn 15 last year and be born in the 21st century tho.... Tom Brennan could be the first

What isn't true? The youngest team bit? Would you like to tell us which team actually WAS the youngest ever please? I'm sure I'm not he only person who'd be keen to know.

Ages at 1 January before season started for their nine regular riders:

David Housley 19

Freddie Stephenson. 18

Paul Clews. 17

Ross Brady. 15

Darren Smith 15

Carl Wilkinson 15

Ollie Allen 14

David Howe 14

Simon Stead 14

Peterborough Thundercats 1997

Not surprisingly they won the league...

and I think that Birmingham may well emulate them in that respect. I liked what I saw of Hume and Bacon last year and JPB and Smith should be the pick of the league's three pointers.
